Dipshit...er, I mean Dupnik is my Sheriff, and he just lost my vote. I might even be inclined to campaign for his replacement next time around.

He lost me when he went off on a tangent about how is opposed on on campus CCW. What the hell did that have to do with this horrible situation? Just another Circle-D dancing in the blood.

The doofus sheriff failed to mention that the mother of the shooter works for the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Has anyone questioned the idiot as to why the killer was arrested more than once on drugs and never convicted. Just sayin'..

Forgive a question from the Great White North, but why is a Sherriff elected, and why is the position filled by someone from a specific political party?
Do you need a(nother) politician in the constabulary?

ACE-- Cuz it's what the jurisdiction's constitution, bylaws, etc. prescribe. When you think about it, all top cops are political appointees, subject to removal by the new "mayor." This is an arduous task to confirm, but the US Constitution gives the sheriff very broad powers. I've been waiting for one of them to arrest Obama and deport him.

Ace, back in England, where the people who set up this shop came from, the Sheriff was appointed by the Crown. Remember that Nottingham fellow? Down here it is an elected county office. You want an appointed bureaucrat because he'll then be free of political taint?

Well then, Casca, if you elect a polka-dot sheriff, why complain when he speaks polka-dot? Elect a striper or do what you gotta do. But don't complain when he acts like a polka-dot.
I'd have thought that the last thing one would want was a cop with a political agenda. But that's just me ... - 1/10/11, 4:15 PM

Electing the Sheriff is good. Letting the office be partisan, not so good.
Having him open his fat trap and opine upon a case where he is the chief investigator, potentially prejudicing the entire process, really retarded.

Yes, that. Take away that fancy star he's been sporting. - 1/10/11, 4:50 PM

Anyone listen to Rush today? He was on a three hour roll. Especially good was the third hour, in which he specifically addressed Sheriff Nudnick. If you are a Rush24/7 subscriber, and hadn't heard the show, you will really love to hear it.
