Bad cops also fear cameras.
I have no problem with the .gov cameras in public ... as long as everyone can look at the recordings. Post them all on the internet. If a gap appears in the postings, or something is photochopped, the camera may be taken down and confiscated by anyone.
And then the Spoofem Merit Badge for feeding the snoop cams images of the mayor's and city council members going through the intersection without stopping at high speeds then letting the press know. The Oak leaf cluster for the image of a local traffic court judge and the mayor's nude wife in the same car.
K-Man - I have no problem with private sector use of these cams, but when it comes to the gummint there can be no quibble room, IMO. A court order ought be required before gumming can record any citizen's action (emphasis on citizen). That extends to traffic cams.
Private citizens can film anything they wish in public.
So ... does a cop need to take off his badge to film? He'll do exactly that if he has to. As for releasing the data, leaks happen whenever it is convenient for the powers that be. I just want to level the field.
And that leveling includes being able to run recognition software on the films to catch the mayor running lights.
In many states private citizens can not record police officers. Florida is one state.

"If you're not doing anything wrong officer, what are you afraid of?"
I heard of some kids making spoof lic plates of an enemy out of photo paper and putting them on a similar car and then just going around and around and around traffic cams.
I would imagine that it would work for the mayor and the chief of police.
