According to Juan Williams, any intel obtained from torture is suspicious and probably useless. To him, waterboarding is apparently as brutal and savage as pressing, skinning, drawing and quartering, impaling, and other forms of torture popular in medieval cultures, such as Arab Islamic ones.
He is absolutely convinced that any information extracted by Bush-sanctioned methods from Gitmo detainees could have been just as easily obtained by more humane methods, and be more reliable as a result of the more humane and enlightened treatment.
He is a mucking foron, of course, and apparently has never been through any type of fraternity or military initiation experience, such as Hell Week or Crossing the Line or the way CPOs were baptized back in the Navy I joined over half a century ago.
Pucking fussies. And any sumbitch who genuinely believes that our troops will be treated better if captured by Stone-Age dickheads if we treat their “warriors” with dignity and courtesy and Miranda protection when we capture them is simply trying to perform rational thought through some mysterious, imaginary organ not yet identified by modern medical science. -

Dear Abby,
One of my neighbors is a liberal moron. Underemployed and disabled, with a large work related settlement. He's left Hope and Change signs stapled to his fence as proof of his "forward thinking". He still has Obama bumper stickers on his car. Lately he's started walking his dog up our private road in the morning and standing at the foot of our driveway, howling at our dogs to incite them to bark. Can I shoot him in the act of depredation, or do I have to wait for an open season? ---Tim -

Waterboarding is not torture (or wasn't until they tried to re-define it).
Unpleasant, yes; but it does no physical harm.
Along with other techniques, it is used to motivate cooperation during later interrogation (can be repeated as needed to re-motivate, because it does no real harm).
Actual torture, on the other hand, has been used by almost all societies mainly to get confessions (~100% success rate, guilty or not) or to terrorize an enemy or gain/maintain submission. Nobody really used it primarily to get actionable intelligence (not reliable for that).
May not apply to sadistic siblings or private/parochial-school staff. -

Juan Williams may not have heard of World War Two. When we had an operative captured by the enemy, we knew he would be tortured and his information obtained. Likewise, the enemy knew if their operatives were captured by us, we would torture the operative for whatever information we could get.
Both sides knew whatever information an operative had could be assumed compromised. And it really was compromised. So each side reworked plans to mitigate the damage as much as possible. But all knew: TORTURE WORKS. -

Yeah, but the reality is that waterboarding is about as torturous as tickling somebody ‘til he pees his pants. Jesus H., two-a-days for football practice back in the 50s was more painful, and possibly more dangerous, than what our illustrious AG intends to prosecute agents for doing to subhuman sand monkeys whose idea of sexual gratification involves pre-pubescent children or goats, whichever is more easily obtainable.
And what about training for Delta Force, or SEALS, or Rangers, or salvage divers, or even jumping out of airplanes at any altitude over 6 feet. I think both Holder AND Ovomit should be given high colonics and be forced to wear jockstraps soaked with Atomic Balm for a few days at the beginning of each month and then asked if waterboarding is such a goddam ordeal.
You want psychological torture? Read the tax codes. Listen to political debates. Watch the daily White House Press Briefing. Explain freedom to a Taliban. Explain free enterprise to a socialist. Explain the concept of “NO!” to a two-year-old. -

He is one lucky guy, having a show-up job at NPR, echoing the latest D talking points, doing the same at FNC, and, when fired, getting a full time gig at FNC, paying more than the NPR job.

Our Intel people during WWII didn't use physical torture ... but they were not above lying or using threats and psychological games.
If you have netflix, you might want to watch "The Ritchie Boys".
They had one member of their unit play a Russian political officer ... he always insisted that un-cooperative Germans be turned over to him for trial in the Soviet Union.
German prisoners suddenly got cooperative after seeing him in the room. -
