Whether we give money directly to Greece, we are on the hook for about a quarter of every euro the IMF lends to any of the PIIGS.

Freddie, what happens to the Euro when one of the PIIGS declares bankruptcy? Graecia is about ready, as they refuse to cut back their spending, and are running on borrowed fumes{just like US!}, making any lending more and more expensive from their point of view[if they can even borrow..]
My take is the Euro ends up divided into PIIGS and "Other".
The worst off will be allowed to devolve, as pumping in more money will just keep the beast alive and hungry. The residents who retired at 45 {per Rush on radio yestiday, IIRC} in Greece will just have to go back to work. Ditto the others, as the rest of the Euro countries cannot afford to bail them out. We can't either. The Euro HAS to come apart, and then will not be adequate to price oil... ???
When the PIIGS fly, I want the umbrella concession...

My point was that we should bail on the IMF before we are forced to give them money to bail us out.
Historical note: Alger Hiss was instrumental in founding the UN. Harry Dexter White was instrumental in founding the IMF. Both were working for Moscow Center at the time.
