I've been 'aware' of politics, but not paying a lot of attention until Clinton sleazed by Bush in '92. I thought the people had betrayed GHWB, and let them self down selecting[no majority] WJC. I was proven correct by 'is is' & other sleazy features.
I knew of Ike, and my parents attending a $100/plate fund raiser in Chicago in 56, may still have the program somewhere...
I remember the debates on TV between Kennedy & Nixon.
The question I have is this:
Has there ever in the history of the USA been a president so at odds with his constituency? So indifferent to their opinions? So out of touch with their wants? So ignorant of their economic pains? So divisive and disruptive? So egotistic? Even Goober at least wanted the USA to succeed. He doesn't. He may be a citizen, but he's not American.
I do not see how anyone with a shred of self respect can vote for Teh One.
The "powers that be" in the Democratic Party should be ashamed. They, as usual, put "Winning at all costs" above preserving this fragile republic. They did not do their 'fiduciary' duty to protect and defend the Constitution by supporting his candicacy. Any and all sworn office holders have proven they are no longer qualified to be in government by supporting this man.
Long ago, we trusted our elected representatives in Congress to have the interests of the country as their first objective. They have betrayed us and have their power, greed, and re-election now as their main objectives. The constitution is just a piece of paper, to be ignored with impunity. Laws are not to be enforced unless they are agreeable.
They no longer deserve our trust. They have proven them self unable to put their selfish greed second to doing their job.
I see the 'usual suspects' on the tube, and hear the literal distortions and lies blurted forth as if there was no one who knew different and am disgusted. I cannot believe so many people believe the propaganda without protest.
I think I just figured it out. The vast majority don't pay attention until the SHTF. It gets messy and smelly when they don't have a job and fuel is $5/gallon. When it hits the wallet, look out. When *they* can't find a job, not just the 14 neighbors out of work.
Well, I think they are starting to pay attention.
They are going to get to the idea that "If you don't work, you don't eat.", which was true hundreds of years ago, and is still true. They will not agree to 'spreading the wealth' more than it already is. Charity is one of the virtues, but that is not a license for the government to take from some and give to others.
This will be a 'close run thing' as the phrase goes. We do not have a lot of room for error. The career politicians, likely from both parties, will have to learn elected office is NOT a career, but a temporary vocation.
If Chas Schumer, D-NY, did not have the benefits of office, he might not make it a career. Ditto Dicky Lugar of IN, and more. They have decided that 'making a name in history books' is more important than having a country survive to NEED such books, much less be able to read them.
Goodness, I am on the brink of despair.

I can understand your despair Tom, you're bringing me down a bit too. Particularly when I realized the perverse reality in one of the truths you wrote. "If you don't work, you don't eat." Yes, that is the economic truth absent external forces. However, we're fast approaching the commie model where it doesn't matter how much you work. Unless you're an aparatchik, you're not eating.
