License plate readers help police scan 30 plates a second At one time I'd have bet money that this use of technology could never have passed in referendum, even if it was put to a vote which it was not.  Now, I'm not so sure. Yeah-yeah,  I know.  The people elected the bureaucracy that enacted it .  Here's a nice example of what passes for critical thinking today.  What was that quote about giving government the means to enslave us, and then thanking them when they do? “   "In real time, it's just a great opportunity," said Ashland Police Chief Scott Rohmer, whose department bought a plate reader last year. "With the technology, it's just another tool to allow the officer to be better at their job and process information faster." ” Even if Massachusetts wasn't a sanctuary state, finding and arresting illegal aliens does not bring in revenue.  Catching some poor shlub who forgot to renew his license does.  Does anyone doubt that all of these— speed cams, traffic cams, manufacturer installed trip monitors, license plate scans — are about tax revenue?  That's today.  Tomorrow it will be finding enemies of the state.  That would be you and me, most likely.
