I have one named Ernie (his Christian name is Ernest Hemingway ...) that I picked up while out running on a bike trail about a dozen or so years ago.

He has now almost reached the end of the road and I will soon have to put him to sleep.

It has been killing me, which is odd because I have had to put many animals down over the years but none have tugged at my heart like this one.
