Texas. Texas by universal acclimation in fact, folklore and popular culture is the heart and soul of America. If Texas were to secede America would die a slow, painful syphilitic kind of death. We will never do that but rest assured when the end of America comes as it surely must Ft. Texas will be the refuge for all real Americans.
These pictures and this music makes me want to put my brand on a pretty little heifer (met a new one yesterday) and move out of the city giving myself a clear field of fire for a mile in every direction. I'm not the first one to think of it, those grave sites in the video are filled with people that believed just as I do. I love this place. Texas!!! Thanks for posting this Rodge. -

From what I understand, the Nation of Texas put it into their demands that as part of joining the Union they had a right to leave said Union when ever they wanted to and become a separate nation consisting of 4 states.
Maybe you are prophetic.

This is a common misunderstanding here in Texas. According to my Texas History prof in college (right here in Houston) when Texas merged with the United States in 1845, the former Republic of Texas retained the right to secede at any time, or subdivide into four additional states, and retain its own standing army and navy. However, when Texas was readmitted to the United States in 1876 as a member of the defeated Confederacy, those rights were not maintained, and Texas has no more rights than any other state.
The right of secession should have put to rest the whole argument by dis-Honest Abe that the states did not have the right to secede. In fact, they did, and still do.
Regrettably. It would be nice if Texas could be the seed corn for building what should still be.

Whoops.
I need to be more careful when editing my own comments.
The word "regrettably" should have stood alone as its own paragraph after "no more rights than any other state".
I do not think that it is regrettable that states till have the right to secede.

I'm lucky enough to be born and raised in Texas. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
BTW that pic at 2:30 is great! Longhorn in the snow with the windmill in the background.... makes me want to grab a camera and head out! -
