FTC shuts down four major robocall operations

The call centers were responsible for billions of calls per year

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced today that it shut down four separate robocall operations responsible for placing billions of illegal robocalls. The four organizations responsible for the calls agreed to settlements with the agency. Under those agreements, the companies will no longer be able to make robocalls or use automatic dialers to place calls, effectively barring them from the telemarketing business.

While most Americans were happy to celebrate their independence ...

Wednesday, July 4, while most Americans were happy to celebrate their independence by shooting fireworks and eating hot dogs, some decided to exercise their independence by … suggesting it should never have happened?

Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King declared on Twitter Wednesday that “the 4th of July was always been a sham. Always,” in response to Frederick Douglass’ 1852 essay, “What, to the slave, is the Fourth of July?” Though King told his fans to “read it all,” apparently King didn’t read the part where Douglass praised the founding of the United States.
Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif., tweeted that “it was eight immigrants who signed the Declaration of Independence.” She did not clarify why these signers should be considered immigrants, given that the United States did not even become a nation until 1783, seven years after the Declaration was signed.

Vox posted an article declaring three reasons the American Revolution was a mistake — yes, really — suggesting America should instead have become another Canada. One of the three reasons? Our form of democratic republic doesn’t always get the results the writer wants, even after a lot of hot air and community organizing — and parliamentary monarchy is better. Yes, really.

This is my rifle. This is my ...

Qualified shooters will be able to purchase the rifles and pistols on a lottery basis, and will have to pass a background check both by the CMP and a the licensed FFL where they pick up their new guns.

The 100,000 1911s slated for the Civilian Marksmanship Program(CMP) have not yet been released, but Cheaper Than Dirt reports something nearly as cool is happening.

Approximately 100,000 Turkish and Philippine M1 Garands have been released to the CMP, and orders are currently being taken.

Former (Lord, I love saying that) President Barack Obama had signed an order releasing the 1911s and Garands to the CMP in theory, but never actually made them available (surprise, surprise), and shooters despaired the guns would never find their way to the U.S.

Worry no more!

PVT OBAMA
The CMP received the Garands over the last month or so. Currently, the CMP is busy prepping the guns for sale. Each of the M1s will have to be cleaned, inspected, potentially repaired or rebuilt, and then test fired. Afterward, the M1 Garands will be sorted and graded, which ultimately determines each rifle’s sale price.

The NRA says the M1s are already being fixed up, and the first shipment of 1911s — which will be sold at a rate of 8-to-10,000 a year — have been delivered to the CMP, as well.

“We’re excited to have the guns,” CMP Chief Operating Officer Mark Johnson told the NRA. “We’ve been working on getting them for several years, and it’s the first shipment of guns we’ve received in quite some time.”

The M1 Garands ― about 86,000 from the Philippines and 13,000 from Turkey ― were loaned to those countries following WWII under the Military Assistance Program (MAP).

Stuff to be proud of ...

ADELPHI ADELPHI ADELPHI

'In all of our cities and all of our towns, I make this promise. We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again,' the audio of Trump blasted across the field as the players ran on.
'God bless you, and good night. I love you.' Donald Trump!

The Adelphi University Men's Lacrosse Team Came Out To A Trump Speech #MAGA A top seeded college lacrosse team has sparked outrage after they chose to enter the field to a Trump speech. - Deplorable News

The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team, in Long Island, had been given the option to pick their own entrance music to Tuesday's game.
But rather than a typical fight track, the team made the controversial decision to enter to a speech by President Trump, set to music.

A school spokesman said the speech does not violate school policy. The men's lacrosse team are allowed to chose their own season pregame warm-up music as long as it does not contain 'vulgarity or inappropriate subject matter,' Newsday reports.
'The songs they proposed and used this season meet those guidelines. As such, we are obliged to follow the policy,' Adelphi athletic director Danny McCabe said.

'Finally a college that respects the president and our country,' wrote Joanne Czaikowski Archer, while Jarred Buck added: 'Awesomeness! That team had guts and guts is lacking with that generation.'
Team coach Gordon Purdie apologized to anyone who had been offended by the choice of track, saying 'it was not intended to provoke or be taken as a political statement.' He added that the team 'traditionally has chosen patriotic music' to accompany their entrance to the field. However, many people online have questioned a sports team would use a political speech at all - let alone by someone as divisive as Donald Trump - after footage of the team's entrance was tweeted on Wednesday.

Ashley Worthey, an alumni who works at the university, said the team's decision had left her 'confused.' She said that while the private college was generally 'a good campus', that there was an issue with 'acceptance' from 'certain people on the campus.'

'I'm sorry. I don't get what lacrosse has to do with his stupid speeches,' Marylynn Torrëy wrote on Facebook. ' So stupid. Bunch of rich entitled kids at that school.'  *snort*

'Shame on you Adelphi, following an admitted sexual predator, liar bigot and world class narcissist,' Arthur Coccaro wrote. 'Martin Luther King's dream speech, maybe, but I just hope some of the players on the team are not ok with this stupidity.'

Another Facebook user joked that perhaps Adelphi had chosen the speech as a tactic 'to make the team sick and vomit listening to his c**p?'But others defended the team's right to free speech.

'Trump makes me sick but this is what freedom of speech is all about. Even if you don't agree with what someone says, they are well within their rights to say it,' Janet Oviedo-Torres wrote.

Gene Staudte added: 'Awesome!!! If that what pumps them up and gets them ready, good for them! They have every right to do that, it's called Freedom of Speech!!!!'

Others applauded them for supporting the president.

'Finally a college that respects the president and our country,' wrote Joanne Czaikowski Archer, while Jarred Buck added: 'Awesomeness! That team had guts and guts is lacking with that generation.'

Adelphi, which plays in Division II, is the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, which begins Saturday against Pace.

The NCAA has a rule against playing "controversial" music during tournament play, so no Trump entrance.  Still, the Joanne Czaikowski Archers, and Jarred Bucks out there will likely be just as upset to hear the national anthem, and see the stars 'n stripes waving. Boo-Yah!

I'm blessed ...

Sunshine on a cloudy day

I am so blessed.  Yesterday the Terps suffered a last second loss to Nebraska?! And, the Redskins lost a last second game to the Giantsthat keeps them out of the playoffs.  And, the Baltimore Ravens were similarly disabused by the Cincinnati Bengals.  So, because the Baltimore-Washington corridor is so overwhelmingly Liberal, I am among those few who can find happiness, and revel in the fact that Donald Trump is about to end  or nation's reign of error! Life is good.

kids chant ‘Trump’

A New York elementary school has canceled its traditional mock presidential election after kids chanted “Trump” and repeated “negative rhetoric about minorities,” according to the school principal.

Children at Jericho Elementary School in Centereach will be voting for their favorite school lunch instead of their favorite presidential candidate after their mock campaign season got too heated.

“Teachers have said they’ve heard some kids in the cafeteria chanting ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ or saying they don’t want Muslims here,” Mr. Rogers told ABC News.

“I mean, kids often repeat what they hear on the TV or the news, but it doesn’t mean it’s OK,” he said. “We have

OKLAHOMA!

As President Barack Obama has advanced his progressive agenda over the past seven-and-a-half years with coerced help from a kowtowed Congress and ruling by executive fiat when they refused, there has been one state consistently at the forefront of opposition to his destructive efforts.

That state is Oklahoma, and there are plenty of reasons why Obama failed to win even a single county in that state during the 2012 election.

  • As President Barack Obama has advanced his progressive agenda over the past seven-and-a-half years with coerced help from a kowtowed Congress and ruling by executive fiat when they refused, there has been one state consistently at the forefront of opposition to his destructive efforts.

That state is Oklahoma, and there are plenty of reasons why Obama failed to win even a single county in that state during the 2012 election.

Furthermore, they are one of the few states that has declared themselves to be a sovereign state, meaning they are not necessarily beholden to any of Obama’s lawless and corrupt decrees and executive actions.
Through the actions of the state legislature and governor, Oklahoma has made several moves to stymie the agenda of the Obama administration on such issues as gun control, illegal immigration, and religious liberty, among other things.

As Obama has thrown open the borders to waves of illegal immigration, Oklahoma has cracked down by actually holding criminal illegals in custody until they can be deported, keeping a DNA sample in the process to better identify them if they come back and commit more crimes, and mandating the drivers license test be conducted in the English language only.

Oklahoma has also rejected the Common Core educational standards and accompanying propaganda-filled curriculum and has stood strong against the Obamacare healthcare reform law, not to mention their staunch opposition to the job-killing regulations put forward by the Environmental Protection Agency.

I have to say that, in my memory
going back to the Clintons,  Oklahoma has been our most stalwart defender of the Constitution.  Speaking of which, does anyone know what's happening with Merrily? I'm almost afraid to ask.

Amazing WW2 Aircraft Facts

The US lost 14,903 pilots, aircrew and support personnel plus 13,873 airplanes --- inside the continental United States. There were 52,651 aircraft accidents (6,039 involving fatalities) in 45 months. Average 1,170 aircraft accidents per month---- nearly 40 a day.

It gets worse.....
Almost 1,000  planes disappeared en route from the US to foreign climes. But  43,581 aircraft were lost overseas including 22,948 on combat missions (18,418 in Europe ) and 20,633 due to non-combat causes overseas.

In a single 376 plane raid in August 1943, 60 B-17s were shot down. That was a 16 percent loss rate and meant 600 empty bunks in England. In 1942-43, it was statistically impossible for bomber crews to complete the intended 25-mission tour in Europe .

In 1942-43, it was statistically impossible for bomber crews to complete the intended 25-mission tour in Europe .
Pacific theatre losses were far less (4,530 in combat) owing to smaller forces committed. The B-29 mission against Tokyo on May 25, 1945, cost 26 Superfortresses,  5.6 percent of the 464 dispatched from the Marianas .

On  average, 6,600 American servicemen died per month during WWII, about 220 a day. Over 40,000 airmen were killed in combat and another 18,000 wounded. Some 12,000 missing men were declared dead, including those "liberated" by the Soviets but never returned. More than 41,000 were captured. Half of the 5,400 held by the Japanese died in captivity, compared with one-tenth in German hands. Total combat casualties were  121,867.

The US forces peak strength was in 1944 with 2,372,000 personnel, nearly twice the previous year's figure.

Losses were huge---but so were production totals. From 1941 through 1945, American industry delivered more than 276,000 military aircraft. That was not only for US Army, Navy and Marine Corps, but also for allies as diverse as Britain, Australia , China and Russia .

With the arrival of new aircraft, many units transitioned in combat. The attitude was, "They all have a stick and a throttle. Go fly `em." When the famed 4th Fighter Group converted from P-47s to P-51s in Feb 44, there was no time to stand down for an orderly transition. The Group commander, Col. DonaldBlakeslee, said, "You can learn to fly 51s on the way to the target".
Our enemies took massive losses. Through much of 1944, the Luftwaffe sustained hemorrhaging of 25% of aircrews and 40 planes a month.

Experience  Level:
Uncle Sam sent many men to war with minimum training. Some fighter pilots entered combat in 1942 with less than 1 hour in their assigned aircraft.. The 357th Fighter Group (The Yoxford Boys) went to England in late 1943 having trained on P-39s, then flew Mustangs. They never saw a Mustang until the first combat mission.

When the famed 4th Fighter Group converted from P-47s to P-51s in Feb 44, there was no time to stand down for an orderly transition. The Group commander, Col. DonaldBlakeslee,  said, "You  can learn to fly 51s on the way to the target".

A future P-47 ace said, "I was sent to England to die."  Many bomber crews were still learning their trade. Of Jimmy Doolittle's 15 pilots on the April 1942  Tokyo raid, only five had won their wings before 1941. All but one of the 16 co-pilots were less than a year out of flight school.

In WW2,  safety took a back seat to combat.  The AAF's worst accident rate was recorded by the A-36 Invader version of the P-51: a staggering 274 accidents per 100,000 flying hours.   Next worst were the P-39 at 245, the P-40 at 188, and the P-38 at 139.  All were Allison powered.

Bomber wrecks were fewer but more expensive. The B-17 and B-24 averaged 30 and 35 accidents per 100,000 flight hours respectively-- a horrific figure considering that from 1980 to 2000 the Air Force's major mishap rate was less than 2.

The B-29 was even worse at 40 per 100,000 hours; the world's most sophisticated, most capable and most expensive bomber was too urgently needed to be able to stand down for mere safety reasons.

(Compare:  when a $2.1 billion B-2 crashed in 2008, the Air Force declared a two-month "safety pause").

The B-29 was no better for maintenance. Although the R3350 was known as a complicated, troublesome power-plant, only half the mechanics had previous experience with it.

Navigators:
Perhaps the greatest success story concerned Navigators. The Army graduated some 50,000 during WW2.

Many had never flown out of sight of land before leaving "Uncle Sugar" for a war zone. Yet they found their way across oceans and continents without getting lost or running out of fuel - a tribute to the AAF's training.

At its height in mid-1944, the USAAF had 2.6 million people and nearly 80,000 aircraft of all types.
Today the US Air Force employs 327,000 active personnel (plus 170,000 civilians) with 5,500+ manned and perhaps 200 unmanned aircraft. That's about 12% of the manpower and 7% of the airplanes of the WW2 peak.

SUMMATION:
Another war like that of 1939-45 is doubtful, as fighters and bombers have given way to helicopters and remotely-controlled drones, eg. over Afghanistan and Iraq. But within our living memory, men left the earth in 1,000-plane formations and fought major battles five miles high, leaving a legacy that remains timeless.
