At the local and state level the tea party focused on placing principled conservatives into house or senate seats. Then they naively believed that they could have significant influence in this year's presidential race. What they forgot about - is if they want a principled conservative in the race for the white house they need to take over the GOP first.
Last year I got a call from the Republican National Committee asking if I would complete a survey for them. I said sure. The first questions she asked was "You are a Republican, right?" When I answered "I am a conservative." she said "Oh." and hung up on me.
As long as the Republican National Committee afraid of collecting opinions from conservatives - the tea party will continue to sit around wondering what the hell just happened.
“He’s been consistent since he changed his mind.”
Huh? Paradoxical statement?
It's pretty idiot proof. No "Real Conservative" ran this time. Probably because someone smart who wants to become President wants to look like the "President for All the People!". So we get to see the Real Conservatives in hindsight. Ike, Reagan, W were all treated with contempt the the Conservative side of the party until they were gone....
Romney is not a Marxist, that makes him...AWESOME.
Obama OUT is #1 priority.
Romney as a Bain Capital exec. took over big, bloated, badly run companies and saved the functional parts, tossing out the dross.
Exactly the experiance we need to save the US now.
Yabbut at Bain Capitol, he didn't have to go through the U.S. Congress every time he wanted to discard a useless branch of the company.
Roger, you ideologically pure maniac: How does Romney on this worst day compare to 3 more Obama nominations to the SCOTUS?
So you guys een this yet:

And to think four years ago Romney was the conservative opposed to the moderate McCain.
My how things have changed
Not that I'm a huge Romney fan, and quite probably will vote Wookie in the primary and the general, but... the Tea Party is officially "conservative" now?
It no longer means "Taxed Enough Already", but rather "Taking Exception to Abortion"?

Helly, help! Someone stole the part where I said "I ain't voting for Mitt." Maybe got lost in the dryer. I stand by this observation
Yeah, I'll vote for Mitt. I am disappointed though. When was the last time we voted for a Republican for the promise of his ideas, and not the fear of; his opponent? For me, 1980. I feel like I'm being whipsawed;manipulated. *spit* Okay, I'll say it. I voted for Ron Paul last Tuesday. Because he was the only man with a plan. I don't think he ever rode the AGW bandwagon either, which makes him smartest.
— and just a few days ago
Voting for Obama is a mortal sin and with it comes eternal damnation. If Joe Stalin and Obama were the choices, you'd have to vote for Stalin because he was his own man, and not some puppet.

Tam— you are correct, the teaparty is nothing if not "keep your fricken hands off my wallet." Being conservative (favoring traditional constitutional views and values; tending to oppose change and everything Liberal or Kenyan) it's natural for me to meld them.
My gripe here, and a 100 times before, is how the GOP work actively to discredit the more conservative candidate. Always. The GOP/Santorum v. Pat Toomey, in support of Arlo Sphincter, is but one 'zample of the ratbastard GOP at work. Abortion, for me, means correcting Roe v, Wade on constitutional grounds, and letting states decide, even if it means that people in Maryland will, as they did before Wade, allow infanticide - may God have mercy on their souls.
The Constitution allows the experiments of society to be performed at the state level without Federal interference, including financial aid. If the experiment fails, the outcome will be a state with a failure instead of the whole damn country. State rights are much more important than people realize.
The TEA Party (I are one) could have split the vote thus ensuring another 4 years of communist rule *or* they could have used influence to try to get the best people in local and state office and decided that Romney is a pretty good choice for POTUS against The One.
Don't drink the kool aid. We're still here, we're still watching, and we still vote.
SO hold your nose and vote Mitt. It sucks lemons but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
If Obama gets back in you aint een nothing yet.
blind and depressed x
Rodge:
Romney is getting the nomination. Yea he's a RINO. He's still lightyears beyond that fucking communist in thew Whitehouse.
Tam: The TEA Party has the same problem all conservative groups have: The Preachers ( as Barry Goldwater refereed to them ) want desperately to be in charge, and conservative groups are the only ones that won't throw them out on their ears ... so ALL conservative groups have to slap the overzealous down to prevent them from trying to outlaw dancing or do other stupid crap.
Mitt!! Mutt!! Mitt!!
