On crushing a 'tea party insurgency'

Hitler's Mustache

[...]  ignited a firestorm today among those increasingly concerned about what some say is a distinct anti-civilian tone that has infected much of the military and Homeland Security since 2009 [...]

This shift has some government watchdogs worried, particularly given that [Retired Col. Kevin ] Benson is using the platform provided at Fort Leavenworth to educate military personnel in his vision of the nature of modern warfare in America. According to the vision articulated by Benson, future warfare will be conducted on our own soil. The military will use its full force against our own citizens. The enemy will be average citizens whose values resonate with those articulated by the tea party. [Full]

Looks like Col. Benson, RET. is trying to score a sinecure with the Obamas.  He also, like Gen.Wesley Clark before him, appears to have misread the tea leaves. And-- it's one thing for military officers to quietly and privately discuss what appears to be inescapable civil unrest (given Obama's Helter-Skelter campaign);  but quite another to do it under an official imprimatur— and choose sides to boot!  Or have I misread this?  Because it's just so bizarre.

Oath before orders.

It's nice when they willingly and publicly set themselves apart from the rest and volunteer to go first.

His (Col.) excuse for choosing the Tea Party was bullshit also...Said they were basically drawn out of a hat and used as an example.....All the adjectives to describe the party came from where? Right...But not to worry about the rank and file .mil...We know the difference between the Oath and orders...

Well, you do have to give points to South Carolina for consistency.

One retired colonel is not the voice of the Army. Much ado about nothing. The real issue is that the Tea Party was the bogeyman because the PC police in DoD proscribe using commies (NorKs), reformed commies (Russians & Chinese), Muslim extremists, racists (of all races) etc., as exemplars of the bad guys. After that, who the hell is really left?

"The enemy will be average citizens whose values resonate with those articulated by the US Constitution." By changing one word the truth comes shining through.

The comments after the article from vets pointed to the idiocy of the government trying to use the military in this fashion. I especially liked the one that said once something like this started, it wouldn't stop until DC was cleaned out, ala lamp posts.

And brother, I'd be right there with him. My anger at what these bastards have done to my daughter's future is at the white hot stage now.

I'm thinking the good Colonel has shit his pants. If he's smart, he'll belly up to the bar and admit he's a dumbass and apologize. If not, he'll try to defend his unfortunate remarks and find all facets of the military, active and retired, will have a mission to put him in his place.

While I was in The NAV, I learned to never ever trust any O-6 who really, really wanted that star.

And, as a corollary, never trust a flag officer. Ever. They aren't necessarily bad people. You just can't trust them.

Chuck: Navy Captains, bird Colonels, and anyone else above them, have to be politicals as well to get promoted or to even stay in.

It's been that way since the Civil War.

Patton and MacArthur got their stars by attacking a bunch of angry veterans at the request of FDR.

I believe General MacArthur was Army Chief of Staff at the time.

It's pathetic that he chose the TP as insurgents when we have Mexican drug cartels, Crips, Bloods, MS 13, Latin Kings, Gangster Disciples nd Traveling Vicelords in a shooting war with our country.

Maybe if a couple of million people mailed a pocket constitution and reading glasses to this mofo colonel, he would get the message.

Is this guy a line officer or some REMF Jag jitbag?

The fact that he hasn't been taken "out back" for "a little chat" by his peers worries me...
