Only two gandies swing spike mauls, standing astraddle the rail, the third nips the end of the tie up with a claw bar. Or somebody's head will get cleaved. Their hands will be on the end of the handle to swing and they roll the maul around behind and swing with their back and shoulders. They're not going to bunt.
Gandies are represented by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. Oh yeah, nobody does this kind of hard work anymore, think John Henry vs. the steam drill.
What do I know? Artistic license and all. Seiu pussies couldn't swing a maul or hit a spike
