First Air Force One

And yet I find something noble about a time when we didn't feel a need to bronze every thing.  Like maybe we were too busy looking ahead?

It's a Lockheed Super Star Constellation, a later stretch job...Nordair sent a fleet of those to Canair Relief in Nigeria to counter the muslim genocide of Christians in Biafra

The Constellation is unquestionably one of, if not THE most beautiful aircraft ever built. My Dad used to fly on them all the time, back in the day, and we used to watch them take off and land when we took him to/fetched him from the airport. Those four engines in concert... the best sound in the world, until I got to hear a Spitfire's Merlin at full throttle.

My first duty station was NAS Jax in 1976. There was a Super Connie there still being used as a hurricane hunter. She was a beauty even with wires and antennas hanging all over her.

Saw it at the Wright-Patterson AF museum, in Dayton, OH. Wasn't in the main museum, you had to get a pass to drive onto the base. Had Ike's DC-6 there, along w/ Ladybird's twin Cessna(?). And "Patches", a plane w/ over 1,000 half-dollar sized patches on the fuse to close up all the bullet holes.

Neat place. They have a B-52 and an SR-71 on display.

Great way to spend a day and a half.

Nearly 15 years ago I did a job at Patuxent River Naval Air Station's Test Pilot School . A Constellation showed up one day and she was Beautiful ! She stayed there for several days , and flew Non-Stop ! as soon as she would roll to a stop , the pilots would roll out with Big smiles on their faces , and more pilots would pile in ! Every pilot from miles around was taking a turn ! The only time She sat idle was when they were fueling Her up ! I begged for a ride , but had to be content with just watching Her orbit the base ! What a BEAUTY ! The only one that I've ever seen fly !I just got back from Key West , and got to ride in a 41 Stearman , and a 57 Otter ! I was in HEAVEN ! Working on my bucket list here Boss ; ) > SMIBSID
