From, Ron in Ohio:

To paraphrase an old western expression - "Screw the ACLU and the white horse they rode in on!" Any group and/or any government that attempts to undermine a religious doctrine or a person's religious convictions should be defied. Enough is enough!

Serious question - under the Constitution, why should it be OK for Catholics to forbid birth control and abortion, OK to allow Jews to practice Kosher, but forbid Muslims from following Sharia?

This is a law question, not a "Muslims are evil question". (They may well be, but that is another discussion...)

leelu, in answer to your question there is nothing in law that prevent Muslims from following Sharia, at least to the extent that it doesn't contravene secular law.

To oversimplify, it's completely legal for adults to consent to anything they want provided it's legal under civil law.

You want to have marital disputes resolved by an Imam no problem (or a Rabbi, or a Priest, or ...). You want inheritances to be determined by Sharia? Again no problem.

The only time the individuals can't follow Sharia is if doing so would require them to violate the law of the land.
