VP-Who Cares?

What I See

In my lifetime, if not the the nation's (post ca.1804), the vice presidential candidate has only once provably had any meaningful impact on the election.  That was in 2008, when John McCain's game-changing nominee for vice president was Sarah Palin.  Mike Pence will have no impact on this election.

Yeah, Sarah Palin had an impact. Another million or so votes for Obama. She's a dunce.

Rog, I gotta' disagree. And I'm a Trump supporter!

Originally being from Indiana, having been a Michigan resident for over 25 years and living in Ohio for the past 10 years gives me a bit of Midwestern insight, I believe.

We both have much family in Indiana, some in Michigan and I have a few here in Ohio. Just two weeks ago we were in Indiana visiting so we got an earful about Indiana politics and Pence in particular.

Pence is not well liked there at all. The Conservatives who elected him have turned on him for abandoning the Conservative values that they expected of him and the Liberals think that he don't go far enough in trying to app[ease them (Of course!)

Pence likes to tout his "balanced budget" and his "surpluses". But we heard about and saw the results of his "balanced budget/surplus" claims. The highways are horrendous and falling apart. We were appalled at the difference that has occurred in the 5 years since we were there last.

NO, Pence is not very well liked in the Midwest! I believe that Trump shot himself in the foot by picking Pence as his VP. I'm sure that it will cost him Indiana, Michigan an a much needed Ohio. Time will tell and I certainly hope that I'm wrong on this opening day of the GOP Convention.

Prince matcha belly - okay, you don't like her, but after he picked her his numbers skied. Sorry.

Ohio Ron, so, does that mean you won't de voting for Trump.??

"Prince Matchabelli", you think Sarah Paiin is a dunce? All that does is show how pervasive and effective the media propaganda campaign (led by Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin on SNL and aided and abetted by RINOs and false conservatives) has been to portray her as such.

In my perfect world, my "dream ticket" (after Allen West) would have been Palin/Nugent.

Rhino'Cain was forced to latch onto Palin because he was a real stinker the GOP dropped on us and Palin was the conservative helium balloon he needed for a lift with voters. Trump surprised me with the Pence selection. Somehow Trump must have been convinced he needed a "club member" on the ticket. I was so enjoying Trump's outsider status and hoped he would have chosen a VP more in line with that.

Speaking of McCain and Romney and Jeb, how does the GOP, even slightly, suggest that Trump is not conservative enough after crapping out those three Rhinos? In the end, God save us from Hillary.

Apples and oranges, people. Sarah caused the numbers to spike because she was the ONLY thing we liked about that ticket. McCain had been force-fed to us by the media and the party elites. He was yet another 'hold-yer-nose' candidate. I ONLY opened my wallet that year AFTER the Palin pick. This time, I've been behind the TOP of the ticket since last summer. Trump is the alpha-candidate; he could add BOZO to the VP slot and it wouldn't diminish my enthusiasm.

i live in Indiana and voted for Pence (and Daniels before him). Neither has been all that good for the state, despite what the coastal dwellers write. the roads are falling apart. industry is not staying, much less returning, to my part of the state. i have to assume that all the good things that i read about are taking place in the big cities and the border towns, because they aren't happening in south central indiana. education reform seems to be give more taxpayer money away.

i have held my nose and voted Republican as i feel the dems would have been worse, but Pence hasn't been all that great from where i stand.

To answer you first Rog - Hell no! I didn't say I was stupid - Of course I'm still gonna' vote for a president - TRUMP! I just don't happen to agree with his running mate choice and gave my reasons why. After all, Pence has already shown that he has more brains then Biden (Sorry Mike Pence for the comparison) and I'm sure that he can be more instrumental for Trump in getting cooperation from both Conserv's. and Lib-O's for what Trump wants than Biden never did for the O-bungler. I just don't think that the 3 states that I mentioned will have enough "fence-sitter" voters left to carry Trump after his VP choice. "Juice" said it all in her last sentence; "In the end, God save us from Hillary."

Next, "Prince Matchabelli" was probably right in his first two sentences - His last one showed his true colors Though. Yet, "Cheesy" summed Sarah Palin up better'n anything I've hear lately about her. My opinion exactly. Now, to be honest about Sarah Palin; I now believe that she was only a dupe 8 years ago by the R-I-N-O establishment to promote Mc Rino and to pacify the Conservatives. Had Mc Rino been elected, she would have been his ineffective-Biden and her abilities and intelligence would have gone to waste unlike Biden's lack thereof.

And finally, "JLW" only seemed to validate my assessment of Indiana voters after my return from a 5 year absence in Indiana. I sincerely hope that enough voters in the aforementioned 3 Midwest states also "hold their nose and vote Republican" in spite of Pence. Any Indiana Voters in disagreement? I'd love to hear from them.

Those are my opinions, I could be wrong, but, We're both gonna' vote for Trump even though there are still too many unanswered questions as opposed to what we KNOW we'll get with Shrill-Liar-Ly.

Rodger the Real King of France said...

Then I was correct, wot? No meaningful impact.

Ron in Ohio sez:

Oh Rog - You seem to have missed the points that "JLW" in Indiana and I were both making.

Speaking for myself, I can't speak for "JLW", Trump's VP pick makes no difference what-so-ever. Yes! "No meaningful impact" personally - BUT - I truly believe that the impact will be felt in Indiana, Michigan and, most importantly, in Ohio. A state that Trump desperately needs to beat Shrill-Liar-Ly - As of now anyway.

So, I will repeat my fears; Pence is not very well liked in the Midwest! I believe that Trump shot himself in the foot by picking Pence as his VP. I'm sure that it will cost him Indiana, Michigan an a much needed Ohio. Time will tell and I certainly hope that I'm wrong on this opening day of the GOP Convention.

Didn't Agnew help JFK carry TX?

Thank you Rog! You answered that "Helly" before I did and a lot more graciously.

After almost biting my tongue to keep still about one so UNINFORMED about politics, yet to still shoot-off their mouth anyway - I still wanted to scream; IT WAS LYNDON JOHNSON YOU DUMB ASS!

The same JFK VP who has been implicated in JFK's assassination - The same one who, upon signing his trademark "civil rights" law said those infamous words, "I'll have those Niggers voting Democrat for the next 200 years" - The same one who is most responsible for the Black welfare and violence state that exists today.

Compared to Johnson, Agnew was no more than a chicken thief.
