Friends don't let friends use Windows 10.
All these "features" require that you log in with your Microsoft Account and not your local account. You also have to turn on those privacy settings that you turned off. You did do that, didn't you? - 5/3/18, 10:58 AM

What JLW said!! Microslop is late, but trying to get into the Facebook scam to sell more ads by tracking everything the poor schub does who did not turn off the privacy invasions buried down in the *spit* App*spit*. I don't even like that word. I have programs and folders, thank you very much.
I really think the long term scheme is to do away with the independent PC and local op systems and have everyone back on a remote terminal, just like the 70's, only wireless this go round.
"... and there’s a new blur effect on the taskbar." BFD.
I despise all the blurry, semi-transparent crap pawned off as value added. Give me nice, crisp graphics, especially as my eyes age.

Heh. "Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are essentially web apps, but they have the full support of Google, Apple, and now Microsoft."
They have an evil name, they do evil things, and three evil corporations support them. How enticing! How... progressive.
That's like an endorsement from three different Dr. Evils! - 5/3/18, 12:20 PM

Reading through those things, all I could think was, "wow, look at all these additional things I would have to disable if I were running win 10."

If you buy a new machine see if you can get it w/o an operating system on it.
Download and burn an iso image DVD of a Linux distro and install that.
If you MUST have Microshit OS then run the iso DVD and do a dual boot setup.
Personally, I ran a DBAN (Derek's Boot And Nuke) disk to wipe my hard drive clean and did a clean install of Linux MINT 18.3 (Cinnamon edition). Best thing I ever did. - 5/3/18, 7:27 PM

Ron in Ohio Sez;
Ya' know Rog this Booger nonsense is really getting old. Earlier this afternoon I made a fact-filled comment of my neighbor's and my experience with Win-10. I must have went a bit farther than simply parrotting and praising the previous 3 comments by JLW III, Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick & Eskyman.
I identified as "Anonymous" - I clicked on I'm not a robot - I played the CAPTCHA nonsense game 3 times - When prompted, I hit "verify" - Finally, I clicked on "Publish Your Comment" - If, in my memory, I got the order correct, I do follow the on-screen instructions - NOTHING! I suppose I was censored again for speaking out against the Internet triumvirate, Micro-Suck, Gaggle & Bogger. I told ya' before, those Bastards don't like me and continue to censor and restrict my criticism of them. Therein lies the reason that I usually choose to E-Mail you rather than make a comment on your blog.
PS:
I have a "Magnifier" extension just so I can blow-up those indiscernible CAPTCHA images that are always in the mix. I always check them thoroughly before I click on "Publish Your Comment". We'll see if this one goes thru. - 5/3/18, 8:00 PM

Do not inquire as to whether or not you have the update because that will cause it to download. Bad news besides bugs is an 8-hr takeover of your computer to get the update loaded. And when that event happens you have to tell it that you still are not interested in Edge as your search engine, and no, Cortana still drives you crazy and has been disabled. And the other stuff that requires operating the computer through the Microsoft ID is incomprehensible to me. My ID and password setup is incomplete to keep them from using it without my permission. Be careful of the heavy-handed tactics they use. They blew up my windows 7, then declared it to be an illegal copy, even though I bought it direct from them so I had to buy Win 10 (off of Ebay, of course).
Unfortunately, you can delay the download, but you can't stop it as was possible under Win 7 and 8. I suppose that planning for the download by asking for it is a smart thing in order that it can be run overnight. - 5/5/18, 11:38 PM

Well, stupid me started the download about midnight on the 6th and the whole thing took six hours and an hour and a half of my time. Initially I thought the pain was now in the past until I discovered that my mic no longer works. Bye bye Skype, at least until they get the bugs fixed.
For all the effort, I got a buggy program that gets me nothing. - 5/6/18, 10:31 PM

They left out the 11th best thing: It isn't and never will be on any of MY computers.
If the day comes I can no longer use Win7, I'll move everything to Linux (I already have one computer so configured.)
All that's preventing a complete changeover now is Mrs. Skyhawker has one program which I cannot get to run using WINE. A fate worse than death awaits if she can't use it at all.
Perhaps I exaggerated a bit, but I can no longer be certain I did.

What I've noticed is it helps to have Intel i5 chip to get some decent performance out of the software.
