In one, a student shouted “build a wall” near the Latino Living Center. At least two reports (Campus Reform and The New American) claim the student was Hispanic and said it to mock Trump. The Cornell administration has declined to confirm or deny those reports, referring me instead to prior general statements from university officials. In a second incident, one or more students who got into a fight off campus with a black student called him the “N” word. [SCROLL] “We demand that all students, undergraduate and graduate, to have appropriate, ongoing, and mandatory coursework that deals with issues of identity (such as race, class, religion, ability status, sexual/romantic orientation, gender, citizenship status, etc.). We want this coursework to be explicitly focused on systems of power and privilege in the United States and centering the voices of oppressed people, assembled by professional diversity consultants and student leaders. Every Dean of every college should implement this requirement, and hire faculty to teach this work who are well equipped to do so.” * * * “We demand that all employees of the university, academic and otherwise (including tenured professors), to have appropriate, ongoing training (tied to evaluations and payroll) that deals with issues of identity (such as race, class, religion, ability status, sexual/romantic orientation, gender, citizenship status, etc.). We want this coursework to be explicitly focused on systems of power and privilege in the United States and centering the voices of oppressed people.” There also is a demand that a fraternity house (with which the people involved in the attack allegedly were affiliated – something the frat denies) be converted to space for people of color: “We demand that the university to provide an adequate and appropriate space for the people of the African diaspora to utilize for programs of any kind, in perpetuity. We propose that this space be the Psi Upsilon house after they are expelled from campus.” The hiring of psychologists and physicians of color: “We demand that Cornell Health to hire at least two more psychologists and psychiatrists of color in the next two years. We also want Cornell Health to hire at least one more physician of color in the next four years.” Most interesting, and perhaps reflecting a split in the black student community, the group demands specific extra help for non-immigrant blacks: “We demand that Cornell Admissions to come up with a plan to actively increase the presence of underrepresented Black students on this campus. We define underrepresented Black students as Black Americans who have several generations (more than two) in this country. The Black student population at Cornell disproportionately represents international or first-generation African or Caribbean students. While these students have a right to flourish at Cornell, there is a lack of investment in Black students whose families were affected directly by the African Holocaust in America. Cornell must work to actively support students whose families have been impacted for generations by white supremacy and American fascism.” FULL DECK Please.  Just STFU.  America is bored to death, or mad as hell. Writing on the potential to run down the political and social influence of “toxic white males” by withdrawing their right to the ballot, Huffington Post contributor Shelley Garland — who describes herself as an “activist and a feminist” student who is “working on ways to smash the patriarchy” —says the change only need be enacted for 20 to 30 years or so. This period would “go some way to seeing a decline in the influence of reactionary and neo-liberal ideology in the world”. Blaming white males for “Some of the biggest blows to the progressive cause in the past year” including Brexit and the election of President Donald Trump, Garland’s apparently serious piece claimed just a couple of decades of white men being excluded from elections could see such progressive leaps forward as the collapse of Western law and capitalism, and a massive redistribution of wealth from “toxic white masculinity” through “expropriation of these various assets”. [FULL] Nothing to add here boss. Except — these people are insane.

In addition to blocking access to Berkeley’s Sather Gate, a key bridge on the route to many classes, the wall of protesters also prevented white students from studying in the Student Union and stopped traffic at the main intersection in the front of campus.” [FULL] At the top of a President Trump's major problems will be a black youth population that, in the past eight years, have been radicalized by Obama.  I don't have to go into detail, you know very well what's happened; from Eric Holder's refusal to prosecute black crime, to Obama championing their insurrection in thought word, and deed. These poor kids have been led to believe something that cannot be sustained, and somewhere along the line will pay for it, and we with them. Which is of course Obama's intention from day one.

Because that wouldn't be fitting for a college professor. /sarcasm [Last Resistance] Just prior to stumbling across that Grundy-race bait,  I saw this blurb about "Confederate  Flag at Prom flag" horror on CNN's  Amtrak story page.  The whole Confederate flag is a racist meme has been explained and refuted so many times (myfavorite is Shelby Foote's) that we know not to try.  Rabble rousing race baiters like Saida Grundy, or Barry Obama for that matter, are not interested in reason.  I'll close by paraphrasing Obama's recent comments about why FOX NEWS needs shutting down. They will find folks who make me mad. I don’t know where they find them. They’re all like, “this is racist. and so is that,  and if you don't believe me then you be a racist mofo, or whatever.” And that becomes an entire narrative that gets worked up.

The event, called “Black Brunch,” began last year in Oakland, Calif., according to Yahoo News, after the tragic police killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in Staten Island, N.Y. Yahoo News notes that in New York City, some 30 people gathered around 11 a.m. Sunday to protest inside some popular midtown-Manhattan eateries that demonstrators identified as “white spaces.” At each location, the protesters “read the names of African Americans killed by police,” Yahoo reports. “Every 28 hours, a black person in America is killed by the police,” the protesters chanted, according to the website. “These are our brothers and sisters. Today and every day, we honor their lives.” BUT WAIT! Some sort of tipping point seems to have been reached, with Sunday morning brunch patrons no longer willing to sit passively as noisy protesters attempt to guilt-trip them about being white, or having the disposable income to go out for a nice brunch, or something (in my view, mostly anger about being such losers).  Gateway Pundit reports on the pushback in Atlanta and Minneapolis eateries yesterday. In Atlanta: Some customers at Sweet Melissa’s reportedly pushed and talked back against the protes “#BlackBrunchATL received a number of threats/shoves at Sweet Melissa’s. “Our breakfast matters” erupted from a table.” One white man sitting at a table with Black friends was filmed vocally objecting to the protest, repeatedly saying, “You’re stirring up conflict”, and at one point telling the protesters to “go home”. [And more ...] It is clear to me that a dedicated coterie of activists is intent on harassing people.  This is stupid and obnoxious, and so self-centered that people express surprise when there is resistance.  This will not end well. Attorney General Eric Holder said  at a journalism forum in Washington on Tuesday. “If Fox didn’t talk about this, they’d have nothing else to talk about!” “Radical Islam, Islamic extremism, I’m not sure a lot is gained by saying that, ... It doesn’t have any impact on our military posture, doesn’t have any impact on what we call it, on the policies that we put in place.” “What we have to do is defined not by the terms that we use but by the facts on the ground. So I don’t worry an awful lot about what the appropriate terminology ought to be.” Appearing irritated, he said: “We spend more time – more time -- talking about what you call it than what do you do about it. You know? I mean really! “I think people need to actually think about that. Really? We’re having this conversation about words, as opposed to what our actions ought to be?”  “The terminology, it seems to me, has little or no impact on what we ultimately have to do.” His contention that words have no impact on how the U.S. responds to threats in the Middle East sounds particularly bizarre when one remembers that Holder is trained in a field that demands precise terminology – the law.
