The Other Cuban Missile Crisis

Res Ipsa Loquitor

Fearing that Castro's hurt pride and widespread Cuban indignation over the concessions Khrushchev had made to Kennedy, might lead to a breakdown of the agreement between the superpowers, the Soviet leader concocted a plan to give Castro a consolation prize.

The prize was an offer to give Cuba more than 100 tactical nuclear weapons that had been shipped to Cuba along with the long-range missiles, but which crucially had passed completely under the radar of US intelligence.

Khrushchev concluded that because the Americans hadn't listed the missiles on their list of demands, the Soviet Union's interests would be well served by keeping them in Cuba. [Full]

The CMC is really the only perceived Kennedy accomplishment that can, or has been cited.  That he made promises to Khrushchev, which effectively nullified the Monroe Doctrine, and secretly removed defenses based in Europe,  were not even revealed to congress, and certainly not bally-hood by the media once learned of, is another consideration.

In another 50 years we'll know still more about what's been hidden from us by our keepers.  I suspect TWA 800, 9-11,  Oklahoma City bombing, treasonous actions by Clinton with China, and that Obama was in fact an escaped mental patient will titillate historians in another 50 years.  We'll be dead and won't care.

Splitting the loot

Arnold’s Shriver's wealth could be halfinated

Everything's so PC these days. Come on, you have one little baby with your housekeeper behind your wife's back, and suddenly you're a bad guy or something? Now Maria Shriver has filed for divorce and could get half. ... Under California's 50-50 community property laws, Shriver ... is eligible to receive as much as half of the movie star's estimated $400 million estate... Shriver already has a considerable share of the Kennedy family fortune, which has been kept largely secret by the family but was estimated by Forbes in 1990 to have approached $850 million. but it's as yet unclear whether he's eligible to receive any of Shriver's fortune. - Jim Treacher

A reunion of sorts

Arnold is clearly the bad guy here, but California law doesn't, as far as I know, consider nice when it comes to community property.  So why is it unclear whether he's due half of her fortune?  At least Schwarzenegger worked for his money.

Meet The Kennedys

MEET THE KENNEDYS- Finally

Meet The Kennedys

TIME Ragazine reports that the The Kennedys 8 hour miniseries will finally see the light of your TV screen - if you get ReelzChannel, a movie channel available in around 60 million cable homes. Originally bought by the History Channel, it was dropped after attacks by the Kennedy mafia who claimed that it contained inaccuracies.  Pretty lame considering that at least 50% of everything we learned about the Kennedys from day one was a lie.  Here's a peek.

The Daily Beast obtained an exclusive, early copy of the script of the botched History Channel miniseries The Kennedys. Jace Lacob picks eight salacious bits from the first episode.
Pages 16-17: Wilkinson’s Joe Sr. fondles his secretary in his office at the ambassador’s residence in London in 1938. As he dictates a note to the president, Joe “fondles her breasts” and “nuzzles her neck.” When sons Joe Jr. and Jack enter his office, Joe Sr. continues his fondling as his sons look on, “amused.” The note he’s dictating? It suggests that in order to keep the peace in Europe, certain concessions be made to Hitler. (It’s a viewpoint later parroted by son Joe Jr. even after the annexation of Czechoslovakia.) A comment made about Jack’s shabby clothes results in him telling his father, “Girls figure I need help dressing. Once I get ‘em in the closet…”

Two

Years later, Joe Sr. and his secretary Janet pass by his wife Rose in the hallway of their Hyannisport home on Election Night 1960. After chatting with Rose, he and his secretary Janet enter his bedroom as Rose locks her own bedroom door. [Page 57]

Three

Pages 21-23: Joe Sr. learns that Jack is romantically involved with married Danish national Inga Arvard (whom Jack refers to as “Inga Binga”), a woman that J. Edgar Hoover reports has “been linked to counterintelligence activities in Washington on behalf of the German government.” When Jack refuses to break off relations with Arvard, Joe Sr. has Jack shipped overseas after placing a call to the secretary of the Navy. Bobby's Files

A dark corner of Camelot
50 years after President Kennedy asked his brother Robert  to oust Castro,
RFK’s files at the JFK Library remain in family control, largely out of view

Stacked in a vault at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Dorchester, individually sealed and labeled, are 54 crates of records so closely guarded that even the library director is prohibited from taking a peek.
Let's guess what's in there: *
  1. Film of Bobby and JFK having a Marilyn Monroe "sexwich."
  2. JFK's missing brain, and autopsy records
  3. Evidence of his father's dealings with the underworld.
  4. Tape of Bobby's strange phone call only hours after Jack's assassination to a Cuban safe house in Washington. "One of your guys did it," he said, apparently referring to the anti-Castro Cubans living there.
  5. Evidence that his father had actually wanted to have son Edward (Ted) 'Lobotomized', but in a drunken stupor took Rosemary instead.
  6. Taped phone conversations of him setting up a contract killing of Castro with the Mafia.
  7. Keepsake photo of MM corpse just after he killed her.
  8.  ...

* I made just one of the possibilities up. None of these.

Even in death ...

F**K the Kennedys
History Channel decides not air
The Kennedys

People close to the Kennedys got their hands on an early script for the program and immediately blasted it. The late Theodore Sorensen, a senior advisor to President Kennedy, called the draft he saw a “one-sided right-wing script” that was “vindictive” and “malicious” in a short film about the project made by Robert Greenwald, a documentary filmmaker. Back-Story

This is what the Internet was invented for
JFK may have been killed because of a movie.

He had Addison's disease, which would be obvious to any physician familiar with the disease, as it changes the appearance of the skin, noticeable at a distance.

Boned Jello
At the time, the only effective treatment for Addison's was large doses of the new miracle drug, cortisone, which could finally be inexpensively synthesized.

However, at the time, even the medical community (incorrectly) believed that large doses of cortisone would make someone clinically paranoid.

This was a widespread belief even outside of the medical community, because of the popular star James Mason's movie, "Bigger Than Life" (1956). It depicted a man taking cortisone pills who goes violently insane and murderous.

The last bit was the Cuban Missile Crisis, that made everyone very aware that JFK had his finger on the nuclear trigger. So with just these three elements, it would not be hard to guess that someone would want JFK dead.

President is ill. President is taking drug that will drive him violently mad. President has finger on nuclear trigger. One, two, three.

Kennedy Mini-Series

Kennedy Déjà vu All Over Again?

Boned Jello
Secret Service Agent stops Jackie Kennedy, who was attempting to bail after the first shot.
For 50 years the Kennedy family has attempted to control what was written about them, often successfully [William Manchester]. Now that the Kennedy mafia is pretty much eviscerated, will there be an actual, true, Kennedy mini-series?  Yes,  Yes there will, it seems. If you thought  Clintonsnot reaction to ABC's 'The Path to 9/11' was something, this should be ... well,  it would be hard to beat the Clinton's hysteria, but this is already shaping up as a media circus.
Even Before Filming, Kennedy Series Stirs Anger

A new mini-series about John F. Kennedy’s presidency that is being prepared by the History channel does not yet have a cast or a premiere date. Not a frame of footage has been shot. It does, however, have prominent critics who want it brought to a halt.

The critics, including Theodore C. Sorensen, a former Kennedy adviser, say they have read the scripts for the project and that those contain errors of fact and emphasis.

The mini-series, called “The Kennedys,” is the brainchild of Joel Surnow, a creator of the Fox action show “24” and an outspoken political conservative. That raised alarms among Kennedy partisans when the History channel said in December that it would pick up the project.

On the other side is Mr. Greenwald, the founder of the advocacy media company Brave New Films, who has created documentaries like “Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism,
Comparing Surnow, a conservative who makes film with broad commercial appeal, with Robert Greenwald, who produces agitprop full-time, is disservice to Surnow. Of course it is now a chiché  to say that unvarnished  truth is poison to Greenwald's fellows, so they'll go to the mattresses on this on.  Click-Click.
