House Conservatives Don't Need to Put Up One of Their Own Lots of outside voices who generally are not with House Conservatives are now challenging House Conservatives to put up their own candidate for Speaker. Conservatives need not bother and should not fall into the trap. Conservatives in the House are finally beginning to understand their role — they do not have power of initiation, they have the veto power. Conservatives do not have the votes to put up their own as Speaker, but they can block anyone else from being Speaker. In other words, conservatives are a bit like the Queen of England. They have three rights in the House of Representatives: the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, the right to warn. They also have one power: consent. By giving their consent, withholding their consent, or withdrawing their consent, they can steer the appointment of a Speaker, end a Speaker’s career, and force Republicans to side with Democrats, further exposing Republicans within primaries. The only thing being asked of obstructionist Democrats, led by President Obama, is that the funding for Planned Parenthood be stricken from the budget. Even if, as they say, none of the organization’s funds go to abortion (which we know is a lie), the videos still provide us with more than enough reason to do so, but Democrats are willing to hold up funding the entire government, including a program that provides 45 million Americans with assistance*, because of their love for abortion. Three things from yesterday's dump ... The Drudge link dump below portends new depths of depravity and lawlessness have been reached. Three of them uber smacked me. 1)  "DC Residents Say Take Down Jefferson Memorial, Rename Washington..." CNN anchor Don Lemon recently floated the idea of re-thinking the Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, since he was a slave owner.“There may come a day when we want to re-think Jefferson, I don’t know if we should do that, but when we get to that point, I’ll be happy to partake in that particular discussion,” Lemon said. You've already raced back to Obama's 2008 promise to remake America, haven't you?   And connected to his policy of cultural Helter Skelter.  But did any of us expect, really, that the national debate could ever plumb these depths?  But, this is a government that sued states for enforcing federal immigration law!  If they can sell that mindset, they can sell anything, including the notion that our founders were white European racist mof'rs whose ideas are passé. 2)  Army to cut 40,000 troops...  Hmmmm. The "outlaw biker" movement began when returning WWII veterans. who'd ridden bikes in the war, took to the road.  The 1953 movie, "Wild One" focused on outlaw motorcycle gang violence, and became the model for a boomlet of outlaw biker clubs.  Now, these bikers may be lawless drug dealers, killers, and defilers of women, but they do tend to be patriotic, maybe because of their founding fathers own patriotism.   So, I can write a script where bikers evolve into future ad hoc militia (see Red Dawn Wolverines).  There's a book here.

Fundamental Problems I find myself consistently in tune with  Red State's Erick Erickson's pronouncements.  Here are two from yesterday that are, IMO, especially worth reading.  The Fundamental Problem with a Jeb Bush Presidency (and a Hillary Clinton one) I want you to do something you will not want to naturally do. You too Laura Ingraham. I want you all to do this because I consider it very important. I want you to presume you agree with Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton (your choice) on everything. I want you to presume that Jeb or Hillary is the ideal candidate in your mind. I know it is hard, but just do it. Presume that they are perfect. Separate from the White House, John Roberts now leads a Supreme Court that very clearly can be persuaded by PR campaigns and is now constantly targeted to do what is right in terms of public relations and not necessarily the law or constitution. Notwithstanding that, I think the nation would make a mistake handing the Presidency to either. The reason for that mistake has nothing to do with their positions on any issue. I would gladly support Jeb Bush were he the nominee of the Republican Party. I do not have the hostility toward him some of my friends have.  [Continued] John Boehner Uses an Outside Group to Attack Conservatives The American Action Network claims to be a “conservative” group. It was started by prominent Republican, Fred Malek, who maintains close ties to the Establishment and was Finance Co-Chairman of Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) Presidential campaign. It is run by Mike Shields, formerly of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Prior to Shields, Brian Walsh of the NRCC ran it. It was founded by former Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)4 and previously run by Rob Collins of Cantor’s office. Collins is now at the NRSC. Former Republican Senator Norm Coleman is Chairman of the Board. The group operates as an outside entity for Rep. John Boehner (R-OH). On the same day even the establishment oriented Wall Street Journal editorial page is suggesting Boehner go, Fred Malek’s group has begun attacking conservative congressmen. Malek and the American Action Network want conservative congressmen to cave and fund Barack Obama’s executive amnesty plan. In Georgia, they have already begun running ads against Congressmen Barry Loudermilk and Jody Hice. Loudermilk and Hice, who voted for Boehner as Speaker, are now being attacked by Speaker Boehner’s outside interests. Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) of Kansas is in the same boat along with Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). [Continued]

'Don't shoot the messenger .... Erick Erickson's "My Candid Candidate Thoughts After CPAC," are worth reading.  He pleads, "don't shoot the messenger," so that will give you an idea.  As for me, I've decided to take full advantage of my age and not (try not) to let the destruction of our culture destroy me now.  I'll fortunately be dead before the full impact of Obama is felt. If he fell down an elevator shaft today, he cannot be undone because we are governed by circus clowns.  Caveat: It will not however take much more of this to make me saddle my horse and ride to Texas though.

The corporate money that funds CAP directly supports an overtly liberal agenda. If you need any additional proof of CAP’s left-leaning nature and influence, look no further than the administration of our current president. While soon leaving to join Hillary Clinton’s team, John Podesta, the founder of CAP, has relied on the organization while serving as a senior advisor to President Obama.  In fact, the president even thanked CAP “for giving me a lot of good policy ideas, but also giving me a lot of staff.” Recently, further light has been shed on CAP’s close ties to Hillary Clinton’s presidential aspirations. Just last week, The Washington Free Beacon’s Lachlan Markay compiled a report on other significant CAP donors who are some of Clinton’s top funders and recent reports have speculated that Podesta himself will be running Clinton’s nascent presidential campaign. Cooper's Colors

“ Situational Awareness The late Jeff Cooper’s “Color Code” has been embraced and taught by competent instructors for many years. Most of you are quite familiar with the concepts, but a review of these essential survival levels is worthwhile. Cooper broke down alertness levels into four colors of escalating degrees of preparation for the use of deadly force. This color code system is a mental process, not a physical one, and should be utilized whether or not you are armed — though being armed is always preferred. Being alert may help you to avoid a deadly threat in the first place, which is always the preferred outcome. White In condition White, you are relaxed and unaware of what is going on around you. Ideally, a police officer is only in white when asleep, but realistically we often drop our guard when we are at home or in some other environment we assume to be safe, like the squad room. Since even police stations have been attacked, it is better to be more alert even when you are in your “lair.” As the Lakewood coffee shop ambush proves, you simply cannot be on white when you are in uniform, whether on duty or off. If you are attacked in condition white, you may very well die — unless you are lucky. I prefer to not depend on luck. Yellow In condition yellow, you remain relaxed, but are aware of who and what is around you. This merely means that you are paying attention to the sights and sounds that surround you whether you are at home or moving in society. Condition yellow DOES NOT equate with paranoia or any other irrational fear of persons or places. Instead, you simply have moved your alertness to a level of attention that will prevent you from being totally surprised by the actions of another person. While walking through an area you will loosely keep track of anyone behind you. When choosing a seat in a restaurant, you will position yourself to see the entrance or to minimize the number of people who might be behind you. You don’t need to insist on securing the “gunfighter seat” which will put your back to a dead corner and your face to the entrance, because you are not anticipating a threat, you are merely conducting an inventory of your surroundings and the other people around you. You will also be running a cursory “what if” mental visualization of where a threat could appear and what your reaction(s) should be. If you are attacked in condition yellow, it should not come as a total surprise. Your response to a threat should have been pre-planned to some extent, allowing you to simply run an existing plan rather than having to make one up quickly while under fire. A competent police officer MUST be in condition yellow whenever they are on duty — or when armed while off duty. Orange In condition orange, you have identified something of interest that may or may not prove to be a threat. Until you determine the true nature of whatever has piqued your interest, your “radar” is narrowed to concentrate on the possible threat and will remain so focused until you are satisfied no threat exists. Contacts you make throughout your shift — either dispatched or self-initiated — are obvious examples of a condition orange focus. These people are not currently a threat, or you would move swiftly and smoothly to the next higher color. Instead, these individuals simply could be a threat, so you shift from condition yellow (relaxed but alert) to condition orange (specific alert). You may make this harmless shift many times a day as you go about your normal routine. If someone or something looks out of place, you change from a 360 degree general awareness to a more focused concentration in a specific direction. At the same time, you can’t drop your general awareness, because a bad guy in front of you may be a distraction for another behind. If you are attacked in condition orange, you should be expecting the attack. Further, you will hopefully be facing your attacker since you have already shifted your focus in his direction. If you are well trained, your subconscious mind will have been searching your hard drive for similar events or training sessions you have already experienced, or any pre-visualized “what if” situations you’ve cataloged as possible solutions should an attack take place. Red If the focus of your attention in condition orange does something you find threatening, you will shift to condition red. Notice here that condition Red IS NOT the firing stroke, as some instructors have misconstrued from Cooper’s teachings. Instead, condition red simply changes the focus of your attention from a potential threat to a potential target. You will draw your weapon, or move still further to sight acquisition, only if the potential target’s actions dictate such a response. Once you’ve shifted to condition red, you cannot be surprised by your primary adversary and you are fully prepared to repel boarders should he push the incident that far. But, your intense concentration on a forward threat will lessen your ability to maintain some degree of 360-degree awareness for unknown threats that may come from other directions. Effective training under high-stress conditions will help you avoid the tunnel vision that some describe as “akin to looking through a toilet paper tube.” If possible, in both conditions orange and red, move to a position that will give you a tactical advantage. Ideally, you want a wall or previously cleared area behind you and some sort of solid cover you can move behind should shooting break out. Having one or more backup officers at this point can greatly enhance situational awareness, if — and only if — one of those officers remains alert in all directions — a rear guard. All too often, every officer on-scene concentrates on the threat with no regard for 360 degree security. If you are attacked in red, you should be fully prepared to defend yourself. “ TAKE NO PRISONERS "If there was a single book to add to the swag-bag for the attendees at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Take No Prisoners is the book."  J Christian Adams from PJ Media has written a rave review of David Horowitz's latest book, Take No Prisoners: The Battle Plan for Defeating the Left, saying it is a must-read for Republicans if they want to win in 2016. "Ten pages into David Horowitz’s new book…I realize putting dog-ears on pages with important quotes for this review is hopeless. I’ve placed a dog-ear on every page. By the end, the whole book might be dog-eared," Adams writes. At the root of this strategic mistake is the belief among many Republicans that the two parties still share the same goals, but have divergent ways to get there. News flash: Democrats like John F. Kennedy and Scoop Jackson no longer exist. The Democrats have been taken over by messianic progressives seeking to craft the world in their own image. Adams suggests that the book be handed to every attendee at the 2016 Republican National Convention in order to "reverse a string of electoral losses" that have plagued the GOP.
