40 out of 9000 members ....

When President Obama took office, he gave journalists great hope by promising unprecedented transparency. The reality has proven to be eight years of slippage in nearly every facet of openness. As the president prepares to leave office, the Society of Professional Journalists have noted the disappointing shortfalls.

Forty journalism and open-government groups sent a letter to White House press secretary Josh Earnest* in September after he called for journalists to give the president credit for improvements in government transparency. The Society of Professional Journalists and other groups have “repeatedly outlined to the administration various ways in which transparency has gotten worse” including:
  • Officials’ blocking reporters’ requests to talk to specific people
  • Excessive delays in answering interview requests, stretching past reporters’ deadlines
  • Refusing to give reporters what should be public information unless they agree not to say who’s speaking
  • Federal agencies’ blackballing of reporters who write critically of them
  • Lack of meaning visual access to the pressmen try an independent press pool

Déjà vu all over again

"They are not sure how seriously to take some of his pronouncements but they're rattled by him — and for good reason, because a lot of the proposals that he's made display either ignorance of world affairs or a cavalier attitude," Carter added.
He suggested Reagans's controversial proposals were more about "getting  headlines" than "actually thinking through" what's needed to keep America safe or the "world on an even keel."
As the race continues, a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll showed 61 percent of American voters said they were unsure about Reagan's lack of military or government experience .. CUT!

Birdbrains

Stageringly Stupid People    Winner of Mosely-Braun Award for Dumb

Birdbrains with
very high standards of gravitas

Ahem

  • Was it only yesterday (2007) when David Brooks stared at Obama’s pants leg and decided he’d make a “very good” president? He became president, but with millions seemingly permanently out of the workforce, and American prestige at a historic low point, he hardly seems a good one.
  • Christopher Buckley called him "a first rate intellect and a first rate temperament," giving the back of the hand to his father’s persuasion. But the first rate intellect was an inch deep; the temperament was that of a petulant narcissist, who preferred feeding snark to his fan base to the much harder job of uniting the nation.
  • Was it just yesterday that Colin Powell and friends declared, more in sorrow than wrath, that the McCain-Palin pair fell woefully short of their very high standards of gravitas? It certainly seems that it was.
  • And there was presidential historian Michael Beschloss, who couldn’t wait until Obama took office to call his IQ “off the charts” (he said nothing about which direction), and call him the most gifted world leader to ever draw breath.
People who worried about Palin’s effect as vice president should look at what Obama has done to the world and his party and ask what she might have done that could have been more destructive.

What an embarrassment ..

As if the Russians need help suppressing ... Metzger

"When Muslim terrorists threatened to make their presence felt at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Obama quickly responded by sending men, equipment and warships, to help beef up Russian security.  I'm sure that somewhere, Ambassador Chris Stevens was musing, 'Instead of diplomacy, I knew I should have taken up figure skating.'"

Reid Blames GOP for making Obama look bad

                      —   Harry, you twat

If they will stop telling lies about the Republicans, we will stop telling the truth about Democrats.  Adlai Stevenson, after a fashion

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that congressional Republicans’ sole agenda is to “make President [Barack] Obama look bad.”

In his first speech on the Senate floor in the new year, Reid called for bipartisan cooperation, saying that Republicans had hamstrung bipartisan efforts.

“We have been able to get a few things done but we have been unable to get some important things done because the goal by the Republicans in the congress — not the Republicans in the country, but the Republicans in the congress — is to do everything they can to make President Obama look bad,” Reid said.

Why would Republicans waste effort making him look bad when he's doing such a swell job of it by his lonesome?

Jim Jones is Back!

Jim Jones: To America

Drink Up!
I don't" foresee the return of the Taliban

Works for
Obama

Doesn't work
for Obama

Obama's national security adviser Van Jones, er, Jim Jones, this morning appeared on both CBS & CNN to pish-posh General Stanley McChrystal's assessment of Afghanistan. "[I don't" foresee the return of the Taliban and I want to be clear that Afghanistan is not in imminent danger of falling."

At the same time, the new head of the British Army, General Sir David Rchards, warned of  the "terrifying prospect" of a defeat in Afghanistan.
In his first interview as the head of the Army, Sir David told The Sunday Telegraph that if Britain and Nato failed in Afghanistan the risks to the western world would be "enormous" and "unimaginable".

He said: "If al-Qaeda and the Taliban believe they have defeated us – what next? Would they stop at Afghanistan? Pakistan is clearly a tempting target not least because of the fact that it is a nuclear-weaponed state and that is a terrifying prospect. Even if only a few of those (nuclear) weapons fell into their hands, believe me they would use them. The recent airlines plot has reminded us that there are people out there who would happily blow all of us up." [Telegraph
I'll say this for Jones, he's one of the very few high level Obama muck-a-mucks who isn't a tax-dodger, or sexual pervert, or racist, or hard core Marxist, or - did I say hard core Marxist?  I also know this. While Jones was painting his rosy picture, 10 TROOPS KILLED IN DEADLIEST BATTLE OF YEAR.  That America will bug-out as soon as battle deaths start mounting is key in al Qaeda's calculus to defeat us; George Bush screwed them up. Now they smell fear, stupidity, and - dare I suggest a kindred spirit?

I'm going with McChrystal, Richards, and common sense.   I'm placing Gen. Jones on Colin Powell Watch status.

Legend in his own mind

"I OWN IT"
In his 60 Minutes interview to be aired tonight, President Obama apparently says, "I intend to be president for a while and once this bill passes, I own it....I'm the one who's going to be held responsible. So I have every incentive to get this right." - Bill Kristol

Same old same old

What's that?  Plantation fences being jumped?

That WaPost headline promises positive news on the home front.  Is a segment of the politically monolithic black community behaving responsibly?
Jeff Johnson knows how to make his audiences squirm. The young, black radio and TV political commentator waits for the discussion to turn to the topic being talked about ceaselessly, incessantly, ad nauseam: the meaning of the barrier-breaking election of Barack Obama.

Then, in his laid-back style, he says, "The real issue for me is that history is not enough." That's when the mood becomes tense.

"Black folks, in particular, get irritated," says Johnson, who travels the lecture circuit, hosts a half-hour show on Black Entertainment Television and has a weekly spot for social criticism on a radio program popular with black listeners. Get past "Obama the personality" and see "Obama the president," he says. "Otherwise all you're being is a political-celebrity groupie instead of a citizen. . . . It starts with acknowledging he's my president, and not my homie."
Alas, the division appears to be  between "those who want to continue to praise Obama and his historic ascendancy," and others who want to keep score on how much booty Obama is diverting to the Black community.
Johnson is one of a growing number of black academics, commentators and authors determined to press Obama on issues such as the elimination of racial profiling and the double-digit unemployment rate among blacks.

To hold Obama accountable, [Political blogger Faye Anderson ] created the Tracking Change wiki to follow the stimulus money and document whether a proportionate share reaches the black community.
