A little something to watch while boycotting the NFL.

Cricket is probably the only game more boring than curling, but this match is worth watching! (Caution- Full Mis-Monty)

'Bama/Clemson

Last night's NCAAF champ game the most exciting I can remember.  I crapped pants when Alabama tried an onside kickand pulled it off! Both teams great, but I like Alabama; always have.  The over/under was 50 points; 85 were scored.

Michelle Roque;QB

Res Ipsa Loquitur

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Michelle Roque never heard back from Jimbo Fisher, so Florida State's most celebrated football player will be watching No. 9 Florida State play No. 18 Houston in the Chick Fil-A Peach Bowl from home on Thursday.

She's the most popular student on Florida State's campus -- as confirmed by the page views, worship from adoring strangers, autograph requests, nods from NFL players and Twitter marriage proposals.

Count Seminoles players among those agog.
Fisher largely ignores social media, so he probably missed Roque's offer and what much of Florida State was buzzing about earlier this month: her 19-play highlight reel that includes 38 avoided "tackles" -- 13 on one play -- 11 touchdowns, seven completions, one reception, one interception, one diving stop on a male quarterback and an all-purpose yards total that would challenge Christian McCaffrey.

"I even tweeted Jimbo," Roque said. She hoped he would consider her at quarterback.

Roque, the Florida State flag football star and a member of Delta Gamma, melted social media with her complete disregard for the emotional and physical well-being of rival sororities. A video of her sending players tumbling as they grasped at air went viral last fall, but that was merely serving as the accelerant for a sequel that ignited the internet -- a full-length highlight tape replete with flailing bodies, slow-motion jukes and an 808 drum beat. [Keeping Abreast ...]

Jimbo Fisher might have told reporters:  "Hey, I have enough problems with these boys raping women to being with; ain't no way I'm serving one up in the locker room."

WORLD CUP TO USA!

WORLD CHAMPS

The yesterday's Women's World Cup championship game against Japan was all over in 15 miutes.  USA came out to one of the most incredible starts I’ve ever witnessed in any sporting event, and it won them the game. Or Carli Lloyd won them the game. We knew she was that old cliche, a big game player. But we didn’t know she was that good. Take away her goals, and it was a pretty even game - and the second-half in particular was a more balanced affair. But then USA didn’t need to be particularly good in the second period - because they had Lloyd. (The Guardian)

Lloyd scored three times, the first hat-trick in a women's final.  Ever. But it was Lloyd's third shot that blew my mind.  How do you score from midfield in a cup final?  Japan's goalie was cheating too far out,  and without thinking Lloyd just drilled it over her head. All this after just 15 minutes, and the game was over, allowing us to spend the remaining 75 minutes watching  number 13's (Alex Morgan, wearing the skin uniform))  amazing athleticism.  USA USA USA!

Foot Ball Lives

              Catharsis

A football Life ...

I'm a Redskin fan first; NFL fan 12th, or so.  Ergo, people like Michael Strayhan, Bill Parcells, or any rat bastard Cowboy are no good.  After watching their life story in the NFL's "A Football Life" series however, I admire the hell out of them all, except Lyle Alzado. I featured the Steve Sabol episode becausewellwhile I knew who he was, I had no idea how much I'd have liked knowing him.  I liked Doug Flutie before, and like him more now.  Pat Summerall! Watch

You don't have to like football to appreciate this series, but you may have to be male.  That's my sense anyway.  You will feel good after watching them, and that's cathartic.

Super Ending

Beauty

I didn't care who won as long as Seattle lost. Only turned the SB on when I saw NE had pulled to within three and saw the go ahead TD.  The rest was gold.  What an ending.

So, I guess the ACC and the SEC will battle for the NCAAF championship, just like the smart money predicted.

1992 Dream Team

IDYLL

The Greatest Game Nobody Ever Saw
∞
On the eve of the 1992 Summer Olympics, the Dream Team scrimmaged during a closed-door practice in Monaco. Michael Jordan led one team, Magic Johnson the other. Two decades later, a game report.

The Dream Team flew into Nice at midnight on July 18 and made a crash landing at the Loews, or Jet Set Central, about 20 miles away. During a security meeting before the team arrived, Henri Lorenzi, the legendary hotel manager, had complained about the number and the aggressiveness of the NBA's security people. "Do you realize who is gambling in my casino right now?" Lorenzi said to the NBA's international liaison, Kim Bohuny. Lorenzi ticked off the names of politicians, movie stars and even tennis immortal Björn Borg. "No one will care that much about this team," he said.

"Well, we'll see," replied Bohuny.

When the team bus pulled up, there was such a rush of fans to see the players that some fans crashed through the glass doors at the entrance. "I get your point," said Lorenzi.

But Krzyzewski, no fan of trash talk, looks back on the game fondly, remembering almost every detail. "Every once in while I'll be doing something and a line from that game will just flash into my head," he says. "They just moved Chicago Stadium to Monte Carlo. It just makes me smile. [Full]

I don't think hoops is a big topic of interest here, but for them what it is, this is great.

A Fine Plan

A Plan

I found this in animated.gif form and it's blown people away that I sent it to, so I turned it into a movie.  The coach who dreamed this up, and forget the razzle-dazzle, displays a very innovative mind.  Anyone know who he is, or what school?

Hoop Dream Teams

Sigh

Number 12 on Forbe's List—
Number 1 in Our Hearts!

Res Ipsa Loquitur

This is strictly for hoops junkies, whom can prolly guess who the "winners" are.  Forbes also lists their Top College Basketball Teams For The Money.  When Gary Williams suddenly retired, my number one wish as his successor was Mark Few of Gonzaga.  Yes, they are on this list.  BTW, I am absolutely delighted with the Mark (Turdgeon) who did get the job,
