At the nat'l level the party is controlled by the RINO faction, and fight with the dems against conservatives. Texas GOP set to defy RNC on early primary

“  The chairman of the Texas Republican Party will try to jump his state ahead of other less-conservative states in the 2012 presidential-nomination contest, The Washington Times has learned. "We are more likely to get a Ronald Reagan than a John McCain to head our national ticket if we have a February primary," Texas Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri told The Times, thumbing his nose at a just-concluded vote by the 168-member RNC to penalize any state that schedules its presidential nominating contest before April 2012. The four exceptions are Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. [Full] ”

If we want states to thumb noses at over-reaching federal law, this is a good baby step.  And a good one.  Here's a sign of GOP squalor,  however.  “ Meanwhile, Republicans desperate to head off a second term for RNC Chairman Michael S. Steele  ...  a highlight of the (recent RNC) meeting was his smothering opponents' hopes of embarrassing him with a no-confidence vote. ” Desperate?  Yes. But what's the problem?  I would think Steele's ouster a foregone conclusion.   His allies in the GOP are the braniacs who allowed the New York Times, and democrat cross-voters in the primaries to shackle us with John McCain.  Any resurgence of GOP prospects this fall are entirely due to Tea Partiers, not, no, despite Michael Steele's GOP.

“ I found this on a liberal Texas blog.  I don't know what to think about Rick Perry running for President.  The third picture, in my opinion, depicts Rick Perry accurately--showboater.   http://tinyurl.com/y5kmnox Oh, my goodness. mary ” Mary, I applauded Perry for refusing Obamaulus money, and then for his threat to assert Texas sovereignty, as granted by the Constitution, against unlawful mandates from the feds.  So this is a good excuse to repost Judge Napolitano's caveat about state leaders like Perry.  If he has substance, now is the time for showing it with some direct action. “ It’s one thing, Alex, for a state legislature and a Governor to sign a piece of paper saying that we stand on our tenth amendment and we are a sovereign state. It would be quite another for a state legislator to enact legislation that did the following: Prohibit state employees from enforcing federal law, indict federal officials who come into the state with the intention of enforcing federal law that conflicts with state law, impose a real estate tax on federal property within the state -  now I know that that has been unlawful for the past two hundred years but suffice it to say we have a different supreme court now that might look at this differently - drag before county and state grand juries federal officers who insist on enforcing federal law that is unconstitutional within the states. The states really have to stand up for their sovereignty. They have to do more than say we are a sovereign state.
