Mirror on the wall, who's the dumbest sumbitch in DC?

Let's see, this ties him with Biden

This broke this morning, but you’ve probably heard about it already:  A SEEMINGLY OFF-HAND COMMENT from Secretary of State John Kerry touches off a rapid-fire chain of events that threatens to undermine President Obama's appeal to the nation Tuesday night to back his plan for a military strike against Syria.
That one was in FOXNews, but it’s been everywhere.  It seems Putin was quick to see the statement of Kerry as a blunder, and is taking advantage.  Kerry said Assad can avoid a US strike if he turns in his chemical weapons.  I’ve seen estimates that if Assad goes along, it will delay a decision on a US attack by weeks or months.  This is certainly going to undermine Obama’s position this week.  I’d love to be in on the conversation between Obama and Kerry.  This argues against straying from the nationally agreed line when practicing diplomacy.  Off-hand comments are not acceptable.  Yes, we knew Kerry was stupid, but a blunder like this will be seized upon by a bright guy like Putin before you can put the toothpaste back in the tube.

The Alec Baldwin Show - Hoo Boy

Meet The MSNBC All-Stars

I recently aksed (of Karen Finney) "Where do MSNBC find these people?  Well, with today's announcement that they are giving Alec Baldwin a Friday night show, we know Referrals from rage control hotline centers.  One must also ask why owner GE allow this misinformed, leftwing hate machine to keep using their electricity?  They have laughable ratings, and are a constant source of embarrassment.  The only conclusion I can draw is that CBS GE muck-a-mucks subscribe to the ideology.

DC Gun Lunacy

Police State Culture

Washington police are operating under orders to arrest tourists and other non-residents traveling with spent bullet or shotgun casings, a crime that carries a $1,000 fine, a year in jail and a criminal record, according to a new book about the city's confusing gun laws.

"Empty shell casings are considered ammunition in Washington, D.C., so they are illegal to possess unless you are a resident and have a gun registration certificate," pens Emily Miller in her investigative book, "Emily Gets Her Gun: ... But Obama Wants to Take Yours."

Under the law, live or empty brass and plastic casings must be carried in a special container and unavailable to drivers. Having one, for example, in a cup holder or ash tray is illegal. [Full]

This beats New Jersey banning air guns all to hell.  I saw this last week, and it is testament to how rancid things have become that I put it in a queue and nearly forgot about it.

Conservative group says Mitch McConnell cost GOP a Senate majority

The Senate Conservatives Fund, which is trying to oust Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the 2014 elections, on Friday said the Kentucky Republican is to blame for
McConnell's campaign reacted to the ad by accusing the conservative group of undercutting GOP chances of taking the Senate.

the GOP's failure to take control of the Senate in 2012.

Matt Hoskins, the fund's executive director, said Republicans remain in the minority in the upper chamber not because voters are rejecting conservative Tea Party candidates, but because establishment Republicans like McConnell are discouraging more conservatives from running. [Full]

Hell, the GOP tried to stop Reagan, and forced a V.P. Bush down his throat.  It's been downhill since.

Collapse of American Influence Recalls Disintegration of Soviet Union, Fall of France

Not since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, and prior to that the fall of France in 1940, has there been so swift an erosion of the world influence of a Great Power as we are witnessing with the United States. [..]

Until recently, it would have been unimaginable to conceive of John Kerry as the strongman of the National Security Council. This is the man who attended political catechism classes from the North Vietnamese to memorize and repeat their accusations against his country of war crimes in Indochina, and, inter alia, ran for president in 2004 asserting that while he had voted to invade Iraq in 2003, he was not implicated in that decision because he did not vote to fund the invasion once underway. (Perhaps Thomas E. Dewey would have been an upset presidential winner in 1944 if he had proclaimed his support for the D-Day landings but advocated an immediate cut-off of funds for General Eisenhower’s armies of liberation.) -- FULL NY SUN via skoonj

Obama Copies Animal House's Greatest Speech

Clarice Feldman

A brilliant AT reader ThinkingOutLoud compares the "red line" is everyone's responsibility blather by Obama to this:

"But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals. If you do, shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our education institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg. Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you want to us, but we won't sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!" - Animal House, 1978
