A Modest Proposal

World's climate warming faster than feared, scientists say
As the planet marked its fourth hottest year on record, a study published in the journal Nature found increasing levels of carbon dioxide will lead to thinner ocean clouds and reduce their cooling impact, causing temperature rises of at least 5.6F (3C) over the course of the century.World's climate warming faster

But, Wait!

New record low set in the coldest city in the continental USA – much of the country headed for a deep freeze

As we begin 2014, it will usher in record cold temperatures. Next week looks quite cold as this forecast for Tuesday shows.Posted on  by

It has been evident for some time that the mission of
Warmist  Church bishops is to  give their flock a tool, a crutch, to stave off the mounting number of heretics who think they are plumb stupid; and to create enough doubt among the willing media to keep that grant money—upon which they are kept afloat— flowing into church coffers.  But, this has gone far enough It  has consequences.

Liberals see, always have,  climate change as an opportunity to seize  control of everything.  Obamacare's  one-sixth of the economy is chicken feed by comparison.  I don't need to paint any picture for you; so here's the point.

One of the conflicting climate science groups are obviously wrong.  So what do we know about them?

Greedy Massive Liars Their claims have been consistently shown to be based on faulty science, and in some cases outright fraud.
Scientific Methodists Can you find an instance where the Anthony Watts contingent of scrupulous scientists have lied, or been shown to fabricate data?

What we have then is a conspiracy that threatens the nation's economy, and even our sovereignty.  It's time for a federal law that designates climate pimping a felony crime, with a mandatory prison sentence.  To that end I will be forwarding this text to my representative (Andy Harris,
the only Republican is the state's delegation), with a request to introduce  the legislation.

You're welcome.

A MAN QUESTION

When was the last time (approximately) that you bought underpants?  For yourself?

I thought of this on Christmas day after opening my 3-pack from Santa.  My best answer?  Never.  I went through college on mom-bought;  then wearing GI; then a period of going regimental, and finally marriage with a drawer full of old mom bought. Since then my bride buys me a 3-pack every time a pair disintegrates in the washing machine.  Oh, and the question does not apply to gays either, since they're considered eveningwear .

I Get Letters

Dear Mr. Schultz:

Thank you for writing to me about President Obama's policies.  It's good to hear from you.

We face many challenges as a nation and I think it is important that we work together to find common sense solutions.  Please know that my goal is to meet the day to day needs of Marylanders and the long-term needs of our nation.  While we may not agree on all issues you have a right to be heard and to be represented.

However, I object to you calling me and my congressional colleagues "a pack of vacuous, vomitrocious smegging bum-wipes."  Further more, I am quite sure that Abraham Lincoln never, as you inferred, questioned someone's mental acuity as being ".. as thin as the homeopathic soup that was made by boiling the shadow of a pigeon that had been starved to death.

Since I must be concerned about the state of your mind, I will ask the Maryland Tax Division, and the Internal Revenue Serice to look into measures to help bring you back into the herd,  so to speak.

Sincerely,
Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator

‘LOOKS LIKE WEIMAR GERMANY’:

A now-viral photo showing a long line of Connecticut residents waiting to register their guns and ammo is circulating across the Internet — and it’s sending chills down the backs of some gun owners. [story]

Connecticut gun owners are rushing to register certain firearms and ammunition that will be considered illegal contraband in the new year.

Under a wide-ranging gun control law passed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, they have until Tuesday to submit the paperwork with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

“Holy crap. Looks like Weimar Germany,” Twitter user @votermom said of the photo.

“Another disgusting picture from Connecticut . . .men waiting in line to register guns with the government,” user @chipwoods commented.

“First, they came for the guns,” @PaulRReyes added.

“Life is too short to live in a state that does this to its residents,” Twitter user @lancemfisher declared.

And there are plenty more comments where that came from.

State police say they’ve had people lining up early in the morning to turn in applications to keep high-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds and guns considered assault weapons under the new law.

While the Connecticut Citizens Defense League believes the law is unconstitutional, it has been reminding gun owners of the deadline to make sure they don’t become felons on Jan. 1.

Dinner For One

Germans Celebrate New Year’s Eve with ‘Dinner for One’
Great Fun

We went to a New Year Eve's party here in Cuenca last night that was hosted by some friends of ours that are German.  Bill and Elke have been watching this thing every year, since they teens, when it was released in 1963. -

Cuzzin Ricky and Cuzzin Lady Friend

Do you know who Freddie Frinton was? Or May Warden? Nope. Don’t feel so bad. If English is your native language and you live in the US or the UK, then you’re not alone. But a German would likely know the names, or surely at least know their most famous characters.

Mr. Frinton and Ms. Warden, who died in 1968 and 1978 respectively, truly would have been forgotten were it not for their roles in a short, slapstick comedy called “Dinner for One” that almost inexplicably is a staple of German television on New Year’s Eve. Versions of it are also shown near the end of the year in other northern European countries.

The sketch, also called “The Ninetieth Birthday,” profiles the elderly Miss Sophie, a seeming scion of the English aristocracy as she celebrates her 90th birthday with four friends and her butler James. The odd thing though is that her friends are all long since dead.

I had never seen this before; all I could think about was it is was tailor made for Carol Burnett and Tim Conway (not that they could have improved on it.)

A few weeks ago I posted about discovering Spark Notes while searching for St. Augustine's Confessions.  That begat Spark's  wonderful, and quite thorough  cheater notes, which then led to this Yale University class discussion of the same topic (right). which begat the startling discovery that Harvard, Princeton, Stanford,  MIT,  all, to some extent, offer  (free) online education.

If you take these resources, along with the Khan Academy, you see that it is very possible to educate at home
yes, even with the Liberal spin one is likely to get.  What a wonderful way to inoculate your child against the unavoidable, and caustic attacks on our culture than exposing with rebuttal?  You can't do that if they're sleeping in New Haven.

Another surprise for me was that Yale offer courses on Western Civilization at all.  After the school returned the $20 million Bass Grant in 1995, rather than give Eli Bass a thumbs up/down on who taught Western Civ under his grant, I was left with feeling that Yale had simply refused to teach Western Civ at alla not unreasonable assumption given the school's, by then, known penchant for passing everything through  a Marxist prism.

A lecture series I am now listening too is INTRODUCTION TO THE OLD TESTAMENT (HEBREW BIBLE).  It's not a religious, but a cultural examination of the Bible's influence on civilization. Most of the class are male, and I know all too well how distracting a not unattractive,  probably lesbian, but braless instructor can have on us.  It's somewhat of a conundrum this; having impure thoughts while reading the Bible.  But maybe that's just me.

Or, as an alternative, immerse yourself  in this.

Say Who?

OBAMA RATED 5th BEST PRESIDENT IN OUR HISTORY
Washington, Lincoln, Coolidge, Reagan, and—  Obama?

From a total of 44 US Presidents: Obama is rated as the 5th best President ever! The A&M's Public Relations Office released the following statement, "...after only 5 years in office, Americans have rated President Obama the 5th best President ever."

The details according to TEXAS A&M

#1. Reagan & Lincoln tied for first,

#2. Twenty three presidents tied for second,

#3. Seventeen other presidents tied for third,

#4. Jimmy Carter came in fourth, and

#5. Obama came in fifth!

This appears to be totally reasonable . . . . .
