Have I said that Verizon is filled with nice but incompetent people? And FIOS TV is the biggest piece of crap service on Earth? I did? Okay. Sorry. Carry on.

Verizon recently announced they're stopping the expansion of FIOS, instead investing $16B into their wireless network - money goes where it's treated best. I'll be stuck with Comcast until the funeral director closes the lid on me.

But! But! But! The administration is spending a bazillion plus dollars to expand access to 'Broad Band', so all your problems are solved!!!
Verizon sez "they're subsidizing our competition, so if they won't give US money, we'll spend our own on something different, less capital investment with a quick ROI."
In other words, they'll shove in some quick and dirty wireless to get their 'coverage' up to meet Fed standards, and the customer will take it or go without.

We had Comcast for years and HATED it. Mrs. Annoyed works from home and must have a perfect connection for security reasons. Could not wait for Fios, signed up as soon as we could. So far we're glad we did. We get far more stuff for the same basic price. Diff'rent strokes, I guess. The local management may make the difference in the service.

Just got Mid-Continent cable and I love it. $123 a month for many hi-defs, all premium channels, dvr, phone with free long distance, 25Meg internet with all the frills and fiber up to the apartment building. They offer 50Meg also. Browsing is as quick as pings but downloads are blazing. I rebuild alot of comps so I need to get updates for OSs which take forever at 3 or 5 Megs that I used to have.
