Giving New Meaning to Google Search
APPLE, GOOGLE PHONES COLLECT DATA

Google and Apple are gathering location information as part of their race to build massive databases capable of pinpointing people's locations via their cellphones. These databases could help them tap the $2.9 billion market for location-based services—expected to rise to $8.3 billion in 2014, according to research firm Gartner Inc.

Anonymous said...: I think Al Gore sits on the board of directors of Google as well. I am sure Blackberry tracks your movements as well.
I miss my Palm phone.

The whole point of adding GPS to a phone was to track the user more accurately. They could do it off the towers but it was a rough guess. The government said mandating GPS location was for 911 emergencies. Now guess which political party was in power when this was mandated.

But seriously, I'm already seeing solutions online for this issue. Pretty much it's a matter of re-encrypting the GPS log file. There could be an app for that, but I doubt Apple would allow it in the App Store. Steve Jobs is on a health-related leave of absence right now, so this is Tim Cook's baby. And the damned thing stays in an RF proof pouch in my truck.
