I think Al Gore sits on the board of directors of Google as well. I am sure Blackberry tracks your movements as well.
I miss my Palm phone.
The whole point of adding GPS to a phone was to track the user more accurately. They could do it off the towers but it was a rough guess. The government said mandating GPS location was for 911 emergencies. Now guess which political party was in power when this was mandated.
Stop arguing about political parties, don't trust your government.
Covert user tracking? There's an app for that!
But seriously, I'm already seeing solutions online for this issue. Pretty much it's a matter of re-encrypting the GPS log file. There could be an app for that, but I doubt Apple would allow it in the App Store. Steve Jobs is on a health-related leave of absence right now, so this is Tim Cook's baby. We'll see how it plays out.
My Android told me it was doing this when enabled GPS feature . I then disabled all location type features.
However they still know where I am..unavoidable with smart mobiles.
I buy a trac-fone and a one year card once a year, and leave last year's phone on a park bench.
And the damned thing stays in an RF proof pouch in my truck.
I keep it for roadside emergencies, not as a leash, or as a means to prevent boredom.
Even with location tracking turned off, the iphone still keeps a hidden database of times and locations

You wish to see what your phone knows about you? There's now an app for that.
Soon, they will be on all the time, you'll have to pull the battery off
AND wrap it in aluminium foil to be safe from it!
If you have a droid check the phone battery use, Maps is probably the biggest drain on the battery, even when Maps and apps associated with it are turned off.
This is yet another reason why I consider the fact that my phone is wired to the wall to be a feature not a bug.
