This, from Brave New World 2008 is as good a summary of Obama's citizenship problem as I've seen. “ Obama’s grandmother on his father’s side, his half-brother and half-sister all claim Obama was born not in Hawaii but in Kenya. Reports reflect that Obama’s mother traveled to Kenya during her pregnancy; however, she was prevented from boarding a flight from Kenya to Hawaii at her late stage of pregnancy (which, apparently, was a normal restriction, to avoid births during a flight). By these reports, Stanley Ann Dunham Obama gave birth to Obama in Kenya, after which she flew home and registered Obama’s birth. There are records of a “registry of birth” for Obama, on or about August 8, 1961 in the public records office in Hawaii. In this take off on the Abbot and Costello comedy routine “Who’s on First, What’s on Second”, it seems as though Obama was out at first base by 4 days. He’s Kenyan. Unless, of course, his 18 year old mother conferred US citizenship on her newborn son because she was a US Citizen. That doesn’t work out, though, because she would have to be a US Citizen for five years after her 14th birthday. She would have had to have been at least 19 years of age for Obama to obtain “natural born” US Citizenship through his birthmother. So he’s back to being a Kenyan. His mom divorced Obama’s Kenyan father, and, when Obama was about six years old, she married an Indonesian man and moved to Indonesia with her son. If Obama had by some means stolen second base and become a “natural born” US Citizen, he was out at third base when his mom became an Indonesian citizen and he was recognized as Indonesian. “I Don’t Know” is on third. So now Obama is Indonesian. About four years later his mom left Indonesia with Obama to return to Hawaii. She could have resumed her US Citizenship upon application and an Oath of Allegiance. At eighteen, Obama could have at least obtained a naturalized citizenship the same way. There is no evidence that either his mother or Obama became US Citizens. At 20, Obama traveled to Pakistan using his Indonesian passport. He’s OUT trying to steal home! ” In fairness, the author concludes that John McCain too is disqualified, because of his birth to military parents stationed in Panama.  I won't bother arguing the point because the full Senate considered the question of McCain's ineligibility before he was nominated, and ruled him eligible. Not only that, but Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe, and other constitutional lawyers support McCain's status as a Natural Born Citizen.  Perhaps, more importantly, it would be viewed as nit-picking on the highest level by all but hard core Obama supporters to challenge it.  Obama, on the other hand, has not been forthcoming, and has in fact perjured himself in the matter.
