Easter Fare

Easter Cinema

AUDIO BOOK

Yesterday I watched Mel Gibson's The  Passion of the Christ on my iPad; the first time since seeing it at the cinema in 2004 (even though we've owned the DVD).  It is unparalleled film making, IMO.  Because of it, Gibson was targeted by Hollywood for neutering.  Upstairs, I learned, MoSup had been watching the movie version of Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Jesus."  I Googled it up on the iPad, but of course Apple does not accept Flash, or whatever the hell format the civilized world use, but I found something better on YouTube.  The full 6 hour+ Audio Book read by O'Reilly.  Just finished the first two chapters, and what a treat.  In that time the book has covered an introductory birth of Jesus replete with a short political history of the area and then into a broaderand captivatinghistory of Caesar's Rome itself.  What an unexpected treat.  I've paused now (at 1:09), after the account of Casca shoving his shiv into Caesar's sack left me ... queasy.

ASIDE: I can appreciate that Jews were fearful that The  Passion of the Christ might have the power to rekindle old hatreds.  It did not.  But the Sanhedrin, led by high priest Caiaphas, which demanded his crucification was the earlier equivalent of General  Pétain's lackey Vichy government under the Nazis.  Rome controlled the Temple, and who ran it.  Hell, they erected a statue of Caesar inside of the Temple!   Many  learned and pious Jews of the time reacted to this  abomination by forming splinter groups having nothing to do with that ilk.  Of course Jesus, his apostles, and most early converts were Jews.  As a Roman Catholic I have come to view the church as a Jewish sect, and myself a member.  For me, this is riveting history.

DEFIANCE

DEFIANCE

Defiance is a 2008 World War II era film written, produced, and directed by Edward Zwick, and set during the occupation of Belarus by Nazi Germany. The film is an account of the Bielski partisans, a group led by Polish Jewish brothers who saved and recruited Jews in Belarus during the Second World War. The film stars Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski, Liev Schreiber as Zus Bielski, Jamie Bell as Asael Bielski, and George MacKay as Aron Bielski. The film is an adaptation of Nechama Tec's book Defiance: The Bielski Partisans (1993).
If you liked Red Dawn (original), you'll likely love Defiance (trailer).  Great acting, and factually based.  I give it an easy .

As an aside, I coudn't help wondering, as I'm sure many of you have before, and given the abject starvation these refuges experienced, what is the actual nutritional value of seminal fluid?  As it turns out (the scant 3/4 tsp aside), it's great for wrinkles, but prolly not life sustaining. Of course (most) men would rather starve.

The American Left: Friends of Our Country’s Enemies

“In his book Antisemitism and the American Far Left, historian Stephen H. Norwood ends his tome by noting that since the 1960s, the American far left has echoed both extremist Palestinian propaganda as well as the old Communist anti-Zionist positions of the 1920s and ’30s, demonizing Zionism and “condemning Israel with increasing fervor…and calling for its destruction.” The Left think of themselves as secular democrats, while in reality they work to empower the forces of radical Islam that “would replace Israel with an Arab dictatorship unwilling to extend rights to minorities and women.”

The American Left used to be patriotic. In its heyday, Eugene V. Debs never attacked America, and the socialist vision he advocated was in his eyes a way to realize the promise of America. As for the American Communist Party, in reality the tool of Stalin’s USSR, it pretended in the 1940s to be pro-American, and its chairman, Earl Browder, coined the slogan “Communism is 20th century Americanism.” This pretense came to an end during the Cold War, when the Left supported the Soviet bloc and all of its policies, and argued that America was in the process of becoming a nascent fascist state.

The remnants of the ’60s New Left identified with America’s new enemies, especially North Vietnam, Communist Cuba, the PLO, and, in the ’80s, Sandinista Nicaragua. After 9/11, many of its adherents took the position that the United States had the terror attack coming to it, since the perpetrators had taken 3000 lives in protest against America’s imperial ambitions and control.

The left-wing of the Democratic Party is not happy. Baker interviewed Phyllis Bennis, who works at the far-left Institute for Policy Studies (not, as Baker describes it,“a research organization for peace activists”). The NYT does not let its readers know that Bennis herself is a person who believes that Israel’s very creation was illegitimate, and who supports “the right of return” and has previously criticized moves taken by Israel against Hamas. As for the IPS, as one can find at Discover the Networks, during the Cold War it was a major group disseminating Soviet disinformation and working to push the United States to the far left.
This led Michael Walzer, the social-democratic intellectual, to pen an article called “Can There Be a Decent Left?” Walzer courageously took on many of those on his side of the spectrum, hitting them for accepting the “blame America first” doctrine to explain foreign policy defeats; for not criticizing any peoples or nations in the Third World; for believing in what he called “rag-tag Marxism”; for failing to oppose dangerous jihadists and Islamist states; and for refusing to blame anyone else for the world’s wrong except the United States.

I wonder what Walzer would write today if he examined his article anew. If one looks around at the Left’s response to Hamas’ actions in Gaza and its attacks on Israel, and its view of Islamist fascism in countries like Iran, Syria and among the ISIS forces seeking to take over Iraq, it is clearer than ever that the Left has one function — to support the enemies of democracy. Operating in the United States, Britain and France, the Western Left takes the opportunity to speak freely in the democracies in which they live, to openly support and express their solidarity with democracy’s most fervent enemies.

Some would question why this Left, perhaps numerically small in terms of the entire population of the Western nations, is so important. Aren’t they really marginal? The answer is that in the United States, as well as in Great Britain, the positions of the far left have now become mainstream, and influence those in political power. So it is with the Democratic Party.

On these questions, the answer of the left-liberal wing of the Democratic Party, and the even further far left-wing base, makes the Democrats as an entire group unable to take any steps that endanger their electoral chances, unless the party’s leaders continually kowtow to the leftist base. They fear that if they took tough interventionist positions that would offend them, it might lead the Left to opt out of voting in the coming November elections, as well as not rallying behind whomever the Democrats pick as their candidate for the 2016 presidential race. There are, of course, some exceptions. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey is one Democrat who has continually called for tough measures against Iran, much to the consternation of others in his own party.

[PJ MEDIA CONT]

Recent polls already have shown that most Democrats have already turned against Israel, and only 31 percent think Israel’s war with Hamas is justified.  Hence the Democrats fear not going along with the Left. Unless they appease the far left in their own ranks, previously mainstream Democrats will fear electoral defeat, and hence many will respond positively to far left appeals and protests. The Left’s marginality will not matter — what they think and call for has entered the mainstream.

DUMB DUMB DUMB

  A Bridge Too Far?

Stu,

So, Jimmy Carter calls for Hamas to be recognized. Mind-boggling, until you realize that what follows is a Hamas Embassy in D.C. (paid for with American aid, of course) and an American Embassy in Gaza.

Hamas can then not only hide their rockets but fire them from the buildings surrounding the American Embassy. The clowns at Obama's State Department can then complain that dust from Israel's shelling of those buildings makes it hard to keep their limousines nice and shiny.

Of course, Hamas would then become part of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. The good folks in the Commission could then say "I feel your pain" to Hamas in person. Hamas officials could park anywhere in NYC at no charge. I'm sure the Commission would do its best to make them feel at home.

This sure sounds like a plan Pelosi can embrace... being "fair" to Hamas (with Qatar as her biggest cheerleader) at the expense of Israel.

Why is Jimmy Carter doing this? Is he that afraid that Barack Obama will take his place as America's worst president? I guess now we can have Obama as America's weakest president and Carter as America's craziest president.

Cheers, (via Skoonj)

That missive reminds me of yesterday's "Stars Face Hollywood Backlash in War of Words Over Israel.
“But for the most part, Hollywood's power brokers -- including those who have raised money for pro-Israel causes, such as Barbra Streisand, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg -- have avoided public comments on the conflict. Nor has there been criticism of other industry figures, including Jon Stewart, director Jonathan Demme and Mark Ruffalo, who have voiced nuanced concerns about Israel's military action in Gaza while supporting the nation in general. "I don't know why more prominent Hollywood people don't speak out about what's going on there," Stern said on his radio show July 28. "They're all afraid." Hollywood political donor Haim Saban, one of the industry's biggest Israel supporters, echoed those sentiments. "I don't understand this myself," Saban told the Jewish Journal on Aug. 1. "But starting today, I will be working the phones to enlist the vocal support of people who I know have an interest in supporting our staunchest ally in the region -- which also happens to be the only democracy in the region."
These gaggle of monied and influential Jews are largely responsible for bankrolling the Carter, Clinton, and Obama presidencies (and today's Democrat party!).  Presidents and a party who were and are openly (if you have eyes) hostile to Israel.  Carter and Obama are outright Jew haters; Bill and Hillary* more nuanced, but still have always sided away from Israeli goals.  In the meanwhile, Ronald Reagan and Bush 43 were the best friend Israel have had, but were vilified by this lot.

And for chrissake, who stands to lose the most with the ascendancy of Islamic influence worldwide?  That's right; Jews and Gays.  Both so blinded by a misguided sense of liberalism, or a giddy celebration of acceptance that the left are able to play them like a banjo, same as  they do all  on the Liberal plantation.  The thing is, we all suffer as a consequence of this foolishness.  The question, I fear,  is Obama  already a bridge too far.
*Dick Morris claimed that Hillary called him a "f---ing Jew b------" after Bill Clinton lost his race for Congress 26 years ago.  Morris  passed a lie-detector test arranged by the New York Post.

More Good News

My Buyers Remorse is a new web site that features ex-Obama voters making acts of contrition.  The videos I looked at are produced by the American Jewish Coalition.  For the most part they've turned on Obama over his stance on Israel. which is somewhat disappointing. Even the text messages from non-Jews seem to have Israel as their principal motivation.

My wife and I support Romney even though we are Hispanic and Catholic. I am going on a vacation to Ohio and will devote 4 hours each day there to campaign for Romney. We are former Democrats and I am from Chicago, but still can see through Obama,,,he  is a bad apple. Let’s ask all Americans, Catholics, Christians, etc. to stand with Jews and Israel. Let’s not make the mistakes of the 1933-1938 era…

I would like to have seen them turn on Obama for being part of a corrupt left-wing Democrat Party, but what the hell; our goal is to be rid of Obama, and losing the Jewish vote (now lowest support in 32 years), and especially Jewish money, is a key. Plus, everywhere I look I'm seeing stuff like:

Colorado: Romney 47%, Obama 45%, New Hampshire: Romney 48, Obama 45Daily Presidential Tracking Poll [48 Days Away, BO at-12] ,Obama’s Foreign Policy Approval Rating Drops After Mideast Turmoil,  Romney Ahead in 11 Key Swing States

If Romney is elected—without firm control of both Senate and House— the best that can be accomplished  is a holding action, and that is not good enough to save us.  News like this will keep Dems from going to the polls, and that's key.  USA UAS USA.

Disclosure- this post was mainly for me, a necessary indulgence.

Obama Losing Vital Juice

Hitler's Mustache

Obama Polling Worse Among Jews Than Any Dem in 32 Years
Res Ipsa Loquitor

You have to go all the way back to Jimmy Carter in 1980 to find a Democratic candidate who’s polling worse among Jews than Obama is. And that’s no coincidence. Carter scored big numbers against Ford in 1976 only to lose a major chunk of Jewish supporters after four years of pro-Terrorist policies that undermined Israel and security and stability in the Middle East.

Obama reportedly scored 76 percent of the Jewish  vote in 2008. Carter picked up 71 percent in 1976. By 1980, Carter was down to 45 percent. The latest polls show Obama down to 59 percent among Jews.

No Democrat has ever won the White House with that low a share of the vote. The Democratic candidates who scored that low, Carter in 1980, Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern, Adlai Stevenson, were all losers who went on to lose the election. To find a Democratic presidential candidate who won less than 60 percent of the Jewish vote and still won the White House, you have to go back 96 years to the election of 1916 where Woodrow Wilson had 55 percent of the Jewish vote against 45 percent for Republican Chris Evans Hughes. And that was considered a very close election.

The Jewish vote does not determine elections, but it is a sign of the loss of support. Romney is taking a Reagan sized bite of the Catholic vote and is within 4 percent of matching Reagan’s numbers among Jews. [Obama Polling Worse Among Jews Than Any Dem in 32 Years]

Why Jews Are So Liberal

Dennis Prager says the most frequently asked question he receives from non-Jews about Jews is, why are Jews so liberal?   A question I've asked a thousand times.  He lists, in no order of importance,  six reasons.  Here are two of the six.  Good job Mr. Prager.

Rob Reiner prosthelytizes Liberalism

2. More than any other major religion, Judaism has always been preoccupied with this world. The (secular) Encyclopedia Judaica begins its entry on "Afterlife" by noting that "Judaism has always affirmed belief in an afterlife." But the preoccupation of Judaism has been making this world a better place. That is why the Torah (the Five Books of Moses) is largely silent about the afterlife; and it is preoccupied with rejecting ancient Egyptian values. That value system was centered on the afterlife — its bible was the Book of the Dead, and its greatest monuments, the pyramids, were tombs.

3. Most Jews are frightened by anything that connotes right wing — such as the words "right-wing" and "conservative." Especially since the Holocaust, they think that threats to their security emanate from the Right only. (It is pointless to argue that Nazism stood for National Socialism and therefore was really a leftist ideology. Whether that is theoretically accurate doesn't matter; nearly everyone regards the Nazis as far Right, and, therefore, Jews fear the Right.) The fact that the Jews' best friends today are conservatives and the fact that the Left is the home of most of the Jews' enemies outside of the Muslim world have made little impact on Jews' psyches.

STFU Pelosi- You Berk

                      Pelosi—you utter berk

Pelosi: Republican Jews 'Being Exploited'

"And they're smart people."

9:55 AM, Jul 28, 2012 • By DANIEL HALPER

In an interview, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi said that she believes Republican Jews are "being exploited," but she was sure to add, "And they're smart people."

Res Ipsa Loquitor

Pelosi made the comments in response to whether Jewish voters would support President Barack Obama in the presidential election later this year.

"I think [Obama] will" win the Jewish vote, Pelosi said, when pressed on the subject. "I think that he will, because the fact is when the facts get out. You know, as many of the Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy. So Israel, that can be one reason they put forth."

The interviewer then added, "That’s why some of the Republican Jewish supporters are really active."

Pelosi responded, "Well, that’s how they’re being exploited. And they’re smart people. They follow these issues. But they have to know the facts. And the fact is that President Obama has been the strongest person in terms of sanctions on Iran, which is important to Israel. He’s been the strongest person on whether it’s Iron Dome, David’s Sling, any of these weapons systems and initiatives that relate to Israel. He has been there over and over again."

The interview was conducted by Bloomberg's Al Hunt

Note: William Kristol: "Pelosi: President Obama's Been to Israel 'Over and Over Again.'"

Al Hunt is still alive?  Is he partrnering with Dan Rather and  HelenThomas?
