Napolitano Under Cloud of Suspicion “ In practice, high ranking Democrats are allowed to avoid indictment for felony crime by resigning from office (i.e. Tony Coelho, Jim Wright, Robert Torricelli, William H. Gray).  Is Janet Napolitano another who will escape the hoosegow by brokering that deal?  Consider. The timing of her resignation is highly unusual for a member of the president’s cabinet. Most cabinet members who leave after a president’s first term don’t wait an extra six months into the second term. Many believe she abruptly left DHS because of some sordid dealings that are about to be discovered. Her tenure at DHS has been characterized by back-to-back lawsuits and multiple controversies regarding the agencies DHS oversees, which include the TSA, ICE, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services and FEMA. Napolitano was tapped by former President Bill Clinton for U.S. attorney after she came to public prominence as an attorney representing Anita Hill against Clarence Thomas at his judicial confirmation hearings, where Hill accused the married Thomas of sexually harassing her. In his book, The Real Anita Hill, David Brock documented how Napolitano put a witness on the stand who wasn’t corroborating Hill’s version of the facts, so Napolitano took her off the stand and had her return and claim amnesia. I really dislike the "Big Sis" appellation Matt Drudge conferred on  Homeland Security führer Janet Napolitano.  First, it's intended play on  "Big Brother" does not easily work.  I fear that it instead gives this incompetent b'ch a materteral aura.  The name Homeland Security is itself Stalinesque. Hate it.  Here she warns that al-Qaeda's best bet to inflict celebratory damage on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is "sabotage by an insider at a major utility facility."   Well, that would be one way [duh], so what are we doing to monitor the activities of the most likely Muslim perpetrators? On Point from the O-Club Thing From Snowy Mountain Thought for the day on the TSA kerfluffle: What people were willing to tolerate when it was perceived of being a _layer_ in a security system they are less willing to tolerate when it is sold as _the_ layer in a security system. Pappy they are less willing to tolerate when it is sold as _the_ layer in a security system 1. It's the visible layer in the security system. Nobody sees the intel work, the drones, the prisoners at Gitmo, or the law-enforcement grind (like chasing money-trails). Few pay, or want to pay, attention to the wars or side-fights (like Mali) that have kept the jihadis off balance. 2. They are less willing to tolerate because it's been nine years since they were really shocked and terrified. The bodies are buried, the names are forgotten, the ash and debris carted away. There hasn't been a successful attack since then due to luck and/or lots of effort. 3. Now they're just terrified, for other reasons. There's no one concrete thing they can strike out at. Congress is too far away. The banks are too big. There's no one thing they could focus their ire on. Until now.
