Colorado WTF?

                            Nanny State: One regulation away from total bliss
The Police State

“ OK Guys and Girls,
They really are here; it just isn’t rumor any more. This recently received from a friend.  Right here in western Colorado :

So, as I was about to park, I saw this vehicle, so I quickly got out of my car and took a picture as it drove by.  As the driver saw me do this, he slammed on the brakes, and asked, "Do you have a problem?"  To which I replied, "Just taking a picture. Is that illegal now?"  He then eked forward a few feet and stayed there in the middle of the road for about a minute and a half until a car approached him from behind, forcing him to move...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the FEDERAL POLICE FORCE (or Federal Protective Service, or United States Secret Service Uniformed Division as they are also known) we have been hearing about and the actual recipients of all that billions (yes, billions) of rounds of ammunition that is being produced for and procured by the Social Security Admin, The IRS, and other various government agencies for what purpose.  They are here, right in Downtown Grand Junction. What is the real purpose of a Federal Protective Service and why do we need them?   Feel safe yet?

NSA Wears a GOOGLE Mask

Police State Culture

“
A technique commonly used by hackers, a MITM attack involves using a fake security certificate to pose as a legitimate Web service, bypass browser security settings, and then intercept data that an unsuspecting person is sending to that service. Hackers could, for example, pose as a banking Web site and steal passwords.

The technique is particularly sly because the hackers then use the password to log in to
Res Ipsa Loquitorthe real banking site and then serve as a "man in the middle," receiving requests from the banking customer, passing them on to the bank site, and then returning requested info to the customer -- all the while collecting data for themselves, with neither the customer nor the bank realizing what's happening. Such attacks can be used against e-mail providers too.

Earlier this week, Techdirt picked up on a passing mention in a Brazilian news story and a Slate article to point out that the US National Security Agency had apparently(using  MITM)  impersonated Google on at least one occasion to gather data on people.

I suspect we are now sailing in seas so studded with mines that scarcely a day can go by without reports of new sinkings. So to speak. The solution?  Short of killing everyone?  I can't think of one.

NEWS FROM THE FRONT
“
A government report reveals testing in Oklahoma of drones with sensors that can find people and even tell if you are carrying a weapon. It's happening at a remote site near Fort Sill.

The publication Homeland Security Today says the testing is taking place at the Oklahoma Training Center for Unmanned Systems operated by Oklahoma State University. The group doing the work is "a trusted agent" of the federal government. [full]

Only mass demonstrations will help now.  Actions that depend on an informed nation who will, almost spontaneously, rise and threaten  government at the local and national level.   That scenario pretty much describes the early Tea Party, and  more than explains the irrational response from Democrats to it.  I say irrational because what scared all of them were  people who, while angry,  civilly confronted elected Democrats with questions at town meetings; questions they could not answer.

Historically this type of revolt are led by the young; the college students who understand through class discussion and assembly the nature and magnitude of the threat.  So much for that.

Let me confess here that I was among those who initially  applauded the Bush Administration's sharp reaction after 9-11.  The  restructuring of  national security services into The Department of Homeland Security.  The very name made me cringe, but yes, I was a cheerleader for this  smothering blanket  of government control over every aspect of our lives.

Whether by bad luck or contrivance,  Barry Obama inherited that infrastructure   Homeland Security  have become Obama's promised "private army," and we are in his thrall. That leaves us with but one option;—throw them all down a volcano.  Sigh.  A nasty business that will be, but necessary.

Totalitarianism - thy name is Homeland Security

This is How the DHS Seizes Your Guns   Controls You

" The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently raided one of our readers: a kitchen table FFL dealer who does everything—everything—by the book. He has, however, consistently criticized the ATF for its unconstitutional regulations and long history of extra-legal activities. This is his story. Update to follow, after he consults with his lawyer . . . "

“
First of all, forget about them coming to the door. They’ll intercept you on your way home from the Doctor’s office (for example), then one vehicle will come up
Then the Homeland Security Special Tactical Unit, and the county sheriff Swat Team arrive, and drive two armored cars over the curb onto the lawn, as the “Jack Booted Thugs” with machine guns, helmets, boots, camo, etc. enter and search your house.
behind you and two will block your way in front and turn on the flashing lights. They then jump out with ‘real’ assault rifles, point them at you and order your hands up, and exit the vehicle.  You, being a law abiding citizen, comply. At gunpoint, they order you to assume the position against your car, handcuffs you and frisk you, and you’re directed to get into the back seat. Then the lead agent gets into the driver seat and drives your car to your driveway. You sit there with cuffed hands behind you – bleeding. This is How the DHS Seizes Your Guns

I am on record saying—on day one of Bush's creation of a Department of Homeland Security— that the very name smacks of totalitarianism.  A case then, where form defined function, and have found the perfect administrator in this Administration..

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Police State Culture

The Obamastapo
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

It's not clear what these people are about.  If it's a dragnet after a kidnapping, bank robbery, etc., that's one thing.  However, now that the provisional wing of the Obamunista  (aka TSA gone wild) are let loose by Kommander Napolitano- on all forms of transportation (even walking)- it's another.

Juxtapose this with Eric Holder's war on Arizona's (and other state's rife with illegal aliens) law letting local police ask drivers, including Aztecs, detained for traffic violations for identification.

Enough is enough.  Whoever that guy in the video is, he's a good role model.  Thanks to Tom Smith for getting my blood moving this morning.

COMPARE & SAVE

Rediscovering Our Greatness
“ Fleming: What Life Was Like in 1776
Americans had the highest per capita income in the civilized world, paid the lowest taxes—and were determined to keep it that way.

[...] In the northern colonies, according to historical research, the top 10% of the population owned about 45% of the wealth. In some parts of the South, 10% owned 75% of the wealth. But unlike most other countries, America in 1776 had a thriving middle class. Well-to-do farmers shipped tons of corn and wheat and rice to the West Indies and Europe, using the profits to send their children to private schools and buy their wives expensive gowns and carriages. Artisans—tailors, carpenters and other skilled workmen—also prospered, as did shop owners who dealt in a variety of goods. Benjamin Franklin credited his shrewd wife, Deborah, with laying the foundation of their wealth with her tradeswoman's skills.

Several hundred miles inland was the "back country," and at the time of the Revolution, not many people went there by choice. Most were poor and landless—younger sons, for example, whose older brothers had inherited the family's property. Life on the outskirts of civilization was hard and often violent. Morals on the Western frontier were often much more relaxed than they were in the civilized East. [continue]

In summation: Things were pretty much like they were until, oh, lets say FDR, LBJ, WJC, and Barry Soetoro.  Damned good on the freedom front. Worth fighting for.

Obama & Napolitano: ‘Liberty Lovers’ Are Terrorists

A new study funded by the Department of Homeland Security characterizes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.

- Americans who believe their “way of life” is under attack;

- Americans who are “fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)”;

- People who consider themselves “anti-global” (presumably those who are wary of the loss of American sovereignty);

- Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority”;

- Americans who are “reverent of individual liberty”;

- People who “believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty.”

None of this is news to you.  Which is why we, unlike 1917 Russians, or 1932 Germans, have a good chance of turning things around.
