Thank goodness for Lib rags like Salon, which have been advising the GOP about who not to run since, what? 1980?  News editor Steve Kornack here warns about  2012 and the GOP's Palin trap, just in case foolish Republican primary voters are feeling suicidal.  “ [A] ticket headed by Palin would be hard-pressed to break 40%. Palin as the nominee would probably make 2012 the most lopsided election victory for the incumbent President since 1984. ” That would be Mondale v. Reagan.  “ The relevance to Palin is obvious: Like Mondale in '84, she would represent to the general election audience of 2012 just about everything they'd rejected in 2008 (and 2006). In nominating her, Republicans would be saying to the country, "We have learned nothing these last four years. We have changed nothing." ” * Smacks head* Oh, that relevance! 1984  Having endured four years of Carter malaise,  the nation is filled with new vigor and renewed national pride after Ronald Reagan's first term.  Nobody is sorry they voted for him, and are certainly not about to bring in a Carter-clone replacement (which is why Mondale is thrown to the dogs by the DNC to begin with) . 2012  The parallels are -- huh?   It would be a fatal mistake? ...  to remind voters -- of the bullet they dodged by  rejecting Palin-McCain for this heaping pile of Obama stink?  Nice try Steve.

In September 2008, 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft interviewed Senator Barack Obama.  He asked, "Why you? I mean, why do you think you would be a good president?"  Obama responded with a litany of gobbeldy-gook. “ KROFT: But what is there specifically about you? You mentioned disposition. You mentioned disposition. What skills and traits do you have that would make you a good president? OBAMA: Look, I'm a practical person. One of the things I'm good at is getting people in a room with a bunch of different ideas. Who sometimes violently disagree with each other. And finding common ground. And a sense of common direction, and that's the kind of approach I think that prevents you from making some of the enormous mistakes that we've seen over the last eight years.  ”  60 Minutes, compelled by desire to get this man elected, later scrubbed that inanity from the public transcript.   Continuing. “ KROFT: We've talked a lot of times, and we've talked a lot about the issue of experience. And, according to the latest CBS News poll and all the polls, it still remains one of the things that people are concerned about with you -- the lack of executive experience. I mean, suppose you wake up on the day after the election, the president elect of the United States. What are you gonna do? I mean, how are you gonna govern? OBAMA: Well, look. KROFT: You've never run anything. And now, all of a sudden, you're in charge of running the United States. OBAMA: Well KROFT: Besides your campaign. ” I don't have to remind you that the Obama tyro, with media allies, would belittle Sarah Palin's experience as Governor of Alaska as a joke. Today she gets her digs in.  From her Facebook page: “ 50 days in, and we’ve just learned another shocking revelation concerning the Obama administration’s response to the Gulf oil spill. In an interview aired this morning, President Obama admitted that he hasn’t met with or spoken directly to BP’s CEO Tony Hayward. His reasoning: “Because my experience is, when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he’s gonna say all the right things to me. I’m not interested in words. I’m interested in actions.” First, to the “informed and enlightened” mainstream media: in all the discussions you’ve had with the White House about the spill, did it not occur to you before today to ask how the CEO-to-CEO level discussions were progressing to remedy this tragedy? You never cease to amaze. (Kind of reminds us of the months on end when you never bothered to ask if the President was meeting with General McChrystal to talk about our strategy in Afghanistan.) Second, to fellow baffled Americans: this revelation is further proof that it bodes well to have some sort of executive experience before occupying the Oval Office (as if the painfully slow response to the oil spill, confusion of duties, finger-pointing, lack of preparedness, and inability to grant local government simple requests weren’t proof enough). Interesting commentary from the WaPo's Morning Fix column. “ 2. An astute Fixista flagged a fascinating interview that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave to conservative talk radio host Lars Larson last Friday in which she appears to leave the door open to a third party bid for president in 2012. Asked by Larson whether she would consider running as a third party candidate, Palin said: "That depends on how things go in the next couple of years." Larson told the 2008 vice presidential nominee that answer "sounds like a yes" to which she responded: "If the Republican party gets back to that [conservative] base, I think our party is going to be stronger and there's not going to be a need for a third party, but I'll play that by ear in these coming months, coming years." Which, to the Fix's delicate ears, sounds like Palin leaving the door wide open. As we have written before, Palin is not -- and never will be -- a candidate of the Republican establishment. Given that, and the unpredictability she demonstrated in her stunning decision to resign as governor over the summer, no potential avenue to the presidency should be ruled out. ” Yes, just commentary by some guy working for an uber liberal rag, but I suspect he mouths what the town snitches tell him, and the town is D.C..  No surprise, of course, but it will be damned hard for the GOP to freeze Palin out at this point. Wouldn't be the first time the coaches were fired because they couldm't get along with the star player, wot?  And make no mistake, she is the star, and nobody else comes close.

I don't get it?  Why would Mr. Harsanyi suggest "she has no business running for president in 2012?"  No business?   Why?  Because she's not a natural born citizen?  Not yet 35 years of age?   That calls for an explanation Lucy; one which I'll warrant you'll rupture yourself giving.  She'll run if she has enough support, and she'll win if she gets enough votes.  With no help from ACORN or SEIU.

If you were one of the billions who didn't watch Sarah Palin's Oprah appearance, you'll be glad to learn that (according to HuffPo) the "real telling moment came in the first seconds of the sit-down." “ They don't call it The Oprah Winfrey Show for nothing. It was a moment worthy of a WWF Smackdown: The Narcissist vs The Maverick. Did you feel snubbed that I hadn't invited you to be on the show during the campaign?, Winfrey immediately asked The Wasilla Wonder. To which a rather snarky Palin quipped, "No offense to you, but it wasn't the center of my universe." Oh no she di-'int! Palin then added, "I've heard more about that during the last few weeks than during the campaign." Clearly taken aback, an incredulous Winfrey asked, "You didn't even know about it?!" Wow. It was kind of painful to watch. It was as if Oprah was pleading, Wait, don't you know who I am? I am Oprah...Winfrey....I elect presidents...I turn no-name authors into superstars....I make middle-aged, middle-American white women swoon more than Josh Groban! Are you telling me you didn't obsess about me when you were on the campaign trail? Shocking! Truly shocking! And there you have it. The one big, and only truly relevant moment in the interview. The Mammoth Ego from Chicago meets the Mighty MILF From Alaska. Last time I saw theatre this good a bunch of human cats were jumping around on Broadway. ”  Oprah's ratings for this show were her highest in years, surpassing even the Obama interview. Related: MoSup tells me that while she was in Border's Bookstore yesterday, a man came up to the desk and somewhat irritatedly said to the clerk, "I'm looking for her book!" That  was all.  Her book. The clerk responded that she didn't know where it was.  Another clerk piped up, "I've got them here in a box, but they're somewhere else too."   Word for word. Among other things, my alternative energy goal for Alaska sits at 50 percent because Alaska reached more than 20 percent during my term in office. The Obama-Biden administration, on the other hand, recently announced a renewable goal of only 25 percent. However, domestic drilling should remain a top priority in order to meet America’s consumption and security needs. The vice president’s extreme opposition to domestic energy development goes all the way back to 1973 when he opposed the Alaska pipeline bill. As Ann Coulter pointed out, “Biden cast one of only five votes against the pipeline that has produced more than 15 billion barrels of oil, supplied nearly 20 percent of this nation’s oil, created tens of thousands of jobs, added hundreds of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and reduced money transfers to the nation’s enemies by about the same amount.” This nonsensical opposition to American domestic energy development continues to this day. Apparently the Obama-Biden administration only approves of offshore drilling in Brazil, where it will provide security and jobs for Brazilians. This election is about American security and American jobs. Doctor Zero gets it, and speaks for many - very many - of us.  “ When I began writing for Hot Air, I never imagined I would find myself critical of Charles Krauthammer twice, after only blogging for four months. I’ve followed his work for years, and still eagerly read everything he publishes. He writes brilliantly on many topics, but he just doesn’t get Sarah Palin, or by extension her supporters… which by further extension means he misunderstands the precarious moment America finds itself in, and the opportunities that lie ahead for conservatives. Let me dispense with the most controversial part of Krauthammer’s recent Town Hall column first: this condescending nonsense about asking Palin to “leave the room” while “we have a reasoned discussion about end-of-life counseling.” There’s only one group of people who needs to leave the room during that discussion, and it’s the socialist zealot in the White House, along with the craven cowards in his party. They’ve already demonstrated a remarkable gift for swiftly leaving the room when people start asking tough questions, so we’ll hardly notice when they slink out. Maybe while they’re gone, they could find the billions in Cash for Clunkers money that vanished into thin air. Those Facebook pages she’s tossing around like ninja throwing stars are  ...
