EAT ME APPLE

Apple Dumplings
                      —     you berks

...Steve  Jobs’s successor at Apple, Tim Cook, was asked at the annual shareholder meeting by the NCPPR, the conservative finance group, to disclose the costs of Apple’s energy sustainability programs, and make a commitment to doing only those things that were profitable.

Mr. Cook replied –with an uncharacteristic display of emotion–that a return on investment (ROI) was not the primary consideration on such issues. ...  The company does “a lot of things for reasons besides profit motive. We want to leave the world better than we found it .... If you want me to do things only for ROI reasons, you should get out of this stock.” [Full]

When I saw this in March, I (like many of you) thought, "What a prick!"  So much for fiduciary responsibility.  And also an insight into Cook's character perhaps.  I'll make this short.

Wife gave me a new iPad Air last week.  She, in turn, took my old iPad I (5.111).  I wiped it clean;  re-registered to her, and went about restoring  the apps I knew she'd enjoy. Like NetFlix, iBooks, Kindle, and a host of others.  But, guess what?  All of the afore mentioned, and many others,  were denied with the message "This App Requires ver 6 or Higher."  WTF?  I used these apps, on that box, last week.

I'm not alone.

It gets worse.  Not only are there no Kindle or iBooks;  there are no book reader apps available. None. Once you give them up, there ain't no going backThe plaintive cry across Apple land is—

"How can I read books on an IPAD1 with OS 5.1.1"

... you pricks!

Obama. Kerry. Iran . Arghhhhhhhhh!

KERRY, OBAMA, BROKER NUKE DEAL WITH IRAN
More historic than Jimmy Carter's snookering of Kim il-Jong

If Obama and Kerry were men of good character, which they are demonstratively not,  then this could be chalked up to more Liberal, Chamberlaineaque, naivety.  Instead it is one of two things, and since we here seem to be of the same mindset, we all know what they are.

  1. Obama and Kerry are incredibly stupid men, who have no record of performing a single selfless act, and whose careers are nowhere if not for the protection and promotion of a hard Liberal and sycophantic media. I mean, puh-leeeze.  Kerry. who lied under oath to congress about what  he observed in Vietnam, and who later headed a group that voted on whether to assassinate United States Senators!?  And Obamawho supposedly wrote and had published two books  before he had served two years  in Congress?
  1. There is no second thing.  Both are performers in a play that is about, in Obama's own words,  Reclaiming Rewriting the American Dream so that it suits them and their sponsors.

TECHNO CHILLS

sometime after Wed, you may want to visit https://aboutthedata.com/launch/

IT can be disconcerting to learn what, not to mention how much, marketers know about us. Consider a consumer like Scott E. Howe.

Res Ipsa LoquitorVisitors who log in may be surprised at the volume of information that may be available and the detailed picture it can give of their personal lives. The household interest section, for instance, listed Mr. Howe as interested in health and medical issues (he subscribes to health industry trade journals and founded a site called Health123.com); crafts (he periodically works with stained glass); woodworking (he paid for his undergraduate education at Princeton in part by working as an apprentice carpenter); tennis (he was on his high school team); gardening (his wife subscribes to Fine Gardening magazine); and “religious/inspirational.”

Where is Ted Kaczynski when you really need him?

Death of a Skillet

TECHNO THRILLS

Death of a skillet

You crack me up

This skillet may have been one my granny brought over from England in 1914, or so.  It was definitely the skillet my mom would have used to make my dad's last breakfast before he shipped off for France in Jan 1945.  It is my absolute favorite,  better than any of the designer pans I've collected over the years.  Properly season it cleans up like Teflon, heats evenly and holds the heat.  It takes a manly wrist to flip flap jacks, but you can. It took me, then, just 30 minutes to order this

I didn't think it was possible to abuse an iron skillet like this, but ... . I was making pancakes on the  induction cooktop (discussed here), and heard a pop!  Didn't notice anything, except every pancake was burned on one particular area.  When I look closely I could see a red hot spot moving across the pan as it continued cracking.  Horry Clap!

What evidently happened is we got a new stove top, which center burner (22,000 BTU) carried a warning that it could melt porcelain. Blah-blah- blah.

One of the first things I noticed is that oil was collecting under that burner, leaving nasty carbon spots that were the devil to clean.  I took special care not spill oil, but the problem persisted.  Where was that oil coming from!!?  I told MoSup that it had to be oil soaked into the pan over those many years.  The seasoning that me it so easy to use and clean.  I was right.  So, when I put it on the induction cooktop, at a setting of "6" (highest), while I got my stuff together, the last ounce of life was evidently drained from her.

I'm keeping the old one to use as a backstop,  so I can target practice with my S&W .22 from my La-Z-Boy.

Woot this, WOOT!

Democrat or Bubonic
Today's Plague Culture Bastids

First, Joe's Mom & Pop pizza sold out to City-Wide Pizza, and now City-Wide Pizza have sold out to K-Mart Pizza.  Like that.

Near as I can tell, this sucks even more than WOOT! started sucking right after Amazon bought it.  They're asking "How did you react?," and I'd tell them,  except I don't Tweet and I don't Facebook.  I'm old and afraid and I'm pissed.  What next?  I'll tell you what next— WOOT DRONE that shoots WOOT! laser advertising on your bedroom wall and takes, then sells  naked pictures of you on  WOOT-WOO!.  Bastids.

And speaking for the Congressman today is ...

Res Ipsa Loquitur

THE GOOD
In response to the question “What percentage of the American legislature do you think are card carrying Marxists, Internationalists, or Socialists?” West claimed that there are: “78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party that are members of the Communist party.”

When asked if they hide it, West responded, “No, they actually don’t hide it, it’s called the Congressional Progressive Caucus.”

Spot-on

THE BAD
Later, however, after the remarks were mentioned in an article in the Palm Beach Post, West’s campaign manager, Tim Edson, told a reporter for The Daily Caller that West “was making a jab at the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and not making an outlandish, McCarthyesque allegation.”

I'm not picking on Alan West, this is standard practice.

  1. "West’s campaign manager, Tim Edson ..." corrected him.  I'm was looking for Rep. West's follow-up quote ' I can speak for myself without the help of weasel-wording.'" -  Didn't find it.
  2. I'm not familiar with any "outlandish, McCarthyesque allegation.”
Well, I blame him if he didn't rap Edson's knuckles.
