1956 Caloric 75 Gas Broiler Stove Commercial Live modern for less...with gas! This commercial was aired during The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet back in 1956. I'm watching this 1956 commercial and am wowed by the ease of cleaning the oven door.  Like, just remove it and take it to the car wash (or other.)  But, it was where  infrared cooking is touted that my  radar really locked.   In this 2016 post I  discussed my Father's Day gift of a  CHAR BROIL Infrared Grill .  So new was this concept, to me, that I had to lookup how it worked.  Like, it is (as far as I'm concerned), impossible to cook a dry piece of meat. I want this for my  kitchen.  Really.  I told Mo Sup that I could retro fit it into the oven hole, but was scoffed onto submission. Any way, what took so long?

This Magnet is no Joke These damn things sucked a cast iron frying pan off my stove and hit so hard the magnets could have shattered (they’re known to be brittle.) FORTUNATELY, my fingers were not at ground-zero of that collision because I was still tightly holding the wooden wedge. I have no doubt these could have broken bones. I am NOT making this up! I love these things, but they are not a toy whatsoever! This Magnet is no Joke I don't often write reviews, but for this.....I had to write one. The magnet was everything as described, but please realize this is not a toy. This magnet is uncontrollable within 6-12 inches of a solid metal surface. If you are looking to just buy a strong magnet to "play" around with, buy this with extreme caution. There would not be much noticeable bone left if your finger was caught between this magnet and another magnet/fridge. Again, the magnet was everything stated in the description but its strength is no joke. Scary Strong I'm kind of scared of this magnet. It's so strong that it will move nearby metal objects even when inside of its shipping box. The finish is very nice. The magnet is very strong. I bought two of these along with ten one-inch cube Rare Earth magnets because I need something darned strong for a serious hobby. I’d seen a few of the comments on YouTube and read the warnings, but they didn’t prepare me for using super magnets. I put these two together, SAFELY, which isn’t a safe thing to do. I started with a wedge of wood, two inches thick on one end, then tapers to nothing over the ten-inch length. I’d put one magnet on one side of the thick part of the wood, then slowly approached the wood with the other. It got away from me and slammed into the wood so hard I’ll never to that again unless I use some kind of machine to control the attraction. Then I slid the two magnets along the wood until they reached the zero-thickness. This became hard to do because the squeezing forces were slightly sinking the magnets into the pine wood. As I walked through my kitchen to the back door, the magnets pulled me into the refrigerator. I was holding them in front of me, but they were eighteen inches from the refrigerator! Later when I came back, I thought I was being more careful, but not careful enough. I love these things, but they are not a toy whatsoever! Not as strong as stated. Claims 280 lbs. of pull, not even close. I do not understand why people say in reviews "it's so strong it's dangerous" or "it attracted something from 12" away" bunch of BS. It has to be about 2 or 3 inches away before it will attract things. Yes It's fun to play with but I'm very disappointed. Just want to warn others before they buy it like I did, with expectations of something great. After reading reviews I was excited, only to be let down. This is my third magnet to buy and be disappointed. No bone crushing to worry about here. Just a fun TOY. NEVER PUT THIS ANYWHERE NEAR ANOTHER NEODYMIUM MAGNATE!!!! I was just testing is to see its strength from a distances and I was probably 1.5 feet away and the small magnet flew out of my hand and collided with this one, luckily it only chipped the small one but it did took me a good hour trying to separate them without the proper tools but overall is a great magnet! I am not sure why i bought this..I didn't have a special need for it or anything, i just really wanted it. It's incredibly strong (i was able to pick up a sledge hammer with the my hand sandwiched between the two). I also would forget i'm holding it and walk near metallic things that would fly to my hand or my hand would get sucked towards doorknobs that i am opening. I experimented rolling it across the floor and rolling smaller magnets at it and the smaller magnets broke (and the super magnet chipped). So beware, it is brittle. Also don't leave it near any electronics for too long... (FR Comments) Like your personality. Said the fair young maiden.

A Second Internet, Coming Soon, Courtesy of the Blockchain A Union Square Ventures and Y Combinator backed startup called Blockstack, just barely out of stealth mode, has been designing an alternative browser for what could be fairly described as another internet, one powered by the bitcoin blockchain. “They are in it for the long run,” Muneeb Ali, a CTO and Cofounder, said of his investors, during an interview with the Observer at his office. “They actually believe that this is the future.” In other words, even if a different kind of internet undermines past investments, investors still want to be positioned well for the next ones. [FULL] On this internet, no one would need to log in to websites, because your browser would use its built in public-private key pair to validate you on each site you visited. Online payments would not need a middleman like PayPal, either, because they would be made using the cryptocurrency wallet built into the browser. All of this, by the way, also makes building websites easier, according to Ali and Shea, because developers aren’t responsible for securing your data or your passwords. “You could imagine an app that’s 200 lines of code,” Shea said. The startup company featured 'Blockstack' is nt the only company involved in developing a new internet using blockchain technology but the enclosed article gives a decent overview of the elements and features involved. This is relevant for those that are in tune with the recent handoff of ICANN to a global entity. It's gratifying to know that the internet as we know it will be obsolete soon. Domain registration is turned over to a blockchain (right now, that’s the original bitcoin blockchain), and no private interest needs to be involved. There’s no single point to tell computers where to look to find a site. There’s lots of places, and the more people use it, the more places there will be. How will 3D printing affect the supply chain? We know that 3D printing will disrupt manufacturing and the international supply chain, but nobody seems to know how yet. Now a paper from the Business School at Lingman Normal University in Zhanjiang has tried to separate the wood from the trees. The general consensus is that 3D printing is going to have a profound effect. The concept of mass producing goods half way around the world and then shipping them is inherently inefficient. UPS clearly agrees, as it is investing heavily in 3D printing centers throughout the US that can produce goods on demand for local delivery. So even the big players are panicking, but what will actually happen? There are theories that much of the labor market could actually be wiped out and logistics will become a casualty of the digital era. This doesn’t take into account our natural capacity to adapt, though, and the fact that we have been here before. This isn’t the first rodeo When Asia effectively took over mass production, Europe and the US concentrated on complex products. These goods were often assembled with parts taken from the factories that sprang up in China. Those that didn’t adapt, simply died. The ones that did were often more successful than ever. Now we face a new industrial revolution that brings its own unique problems. We know that there will be upheaval, but still nobody quite knows how this will pan out. The concept of mass producing goods half way around the world and then shipping them is inherently inefficient. We really don’t know if 3D printing will take over mass manufacturing, or if the benefits of the old system will keep it in the game for a long time to come. Does 3D printing have a limit? Printing speed, cost and the quality of the finished product are all improving at a rate that suggests this is the future. But we may yet find a cut-off point where it is simply not cost-effective to use the printers for a certain product. Well the Chinese researchers have attempted to analyse the situation using system dynamics to offer a rational answer. It posed a number of possibilities and came to the inevitable conclusion: 3D printing is set to change the manufacturing world and the supply chain. [Continue ...] Let me tell you why this is wrong.  I've been to 3-D movies. I have a 3-D capable television.  As a kid I even had 3-D comic books. After watching/reading for just a few minutes my eyes get blurry, and I get a headache, and I am not alone.  Twenty-minutes onto "HOUSE OF WAX," fully half  the audience left the Montclare Theater in some level of distress. So this 3-D printer stuff, while techno exotic, is doomed to go the way of other gadgets that flopped big time. Don't invest. You're welcome.

Ford introduces magic trailer-backing technology Talk about having a backup plan!  Whether you’re towing a boat trailer, a camper - or a howitzer - one of the biggest challenges is backing the thing up without your little train skewing off in the wrong direction. But Ford thinks it has the solution, with a nifty wrinkle it’s making available on some of its new pickup trucks.
