No wonder White House Press Secretary Gibbs delivered his infantile diatribe this week claiming that the president's 47% approval according to the Gallup tracking poll — a new low — is meaningless.  "I'm sure a 6-year-old with a crayon could do something not unlike that."

A pack of leftists has put a $200,000 price on the head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Tom Donahue. Oh, it's not a plot to kill him, they claim, only a bounty to get him arrested. It's one heck of a coarsening of U.S. politics.

I had previously believed that if something was written in a book, it was authoritatively true. This little gem was so blatantly silly that you couldn’t possibly take it seriously. The First Climategate

The Revelle-Gore Story Attempted
Political Suppression of Science

“
Curmudgeonly & Skeptical

Another media cover up

Wouldn't you think that if the Vice President of the United States was at the center of a libel lawsuit in which a global warming skeptic scientist, whose work was a huge embarrassment to the VP, was being defamed by another scientists closely associated with the VP, and the result of the lawsuit was a complete and unequivocal apology and admission that every libelous utterance was untrue - wouldn't you think that this would be news?

Well, it wasn't. I sure never heard about it, and I have been paying very close attention to this issue for a long time. -
Rob Kremer
”

I was led to this piece by Oregon Guy, as were some of you who follow comment links (often worth more that the post being commented on).  This really resonates with me for these reasons:
  1. Curmudgeonly & Skeptical
Like Mr. Kremer, I too "have been paying very close attention to this issue for a long time." I will include below some links to L. Fred Singer's work,  going back to 1997, at which time I started the Topic  " Environmentalist Wackos" on Free Republic.  So, while not quite a policy wonk, I do qualify as a more than causal observer of the man-caused global warming (and cooling) scams. Dr. Singer was central to many of those stories, and yet I had no knowledge that he sued Al Gore -  through his proxy Dr. Justin Lancaster.  Wow.
  2. Since Al Gore was a student of Harvard Professor Dr. Roger Revelle, maybe we can call that the "Big Bang" moment when the Goreacle was created?
  3. Documenting Al Gore's disreputable, and despicable behavior as a United States Senator would, in normal times, destroy his advocacy for - anything, really. Except maybe for  better prison food.
The nutshell: [From Chapter 11, The Revelle-Gore Story Attempted Political Suppression of Science]
  • Curmudgeonly & Skeptical
Dr. Roger Revelle was one of the outstanding oceanographers of the twentieth-century.  His studies caused him to conclude that not all carbon dioxide emitted from the burning of fossil fuels would be quickly transferred into the ocean and some might accumulate in the atmosphere.
  • Gore was a dope smoking student of Revelle's at the time.
  • Gore becomes an eco-freak.
  • Dr. Revelle by now realizes that carbon dioxide science is not all that it should be, and with Dr. Singer publishes the warning: “What to Do About Greenhouse Warming: Look Before You Leap,” in April 1991.  The main conclusion was a simple message: “The scientific base for a greenhouse warming is too uncertain to justify drastic action at this time.”
  • Algore fails to heed the warning, and publishes "Earth in the Lurch Balance,"where he wrongly cites Revelle's science.
  • Somebody finds this obscure Revelle-Singer paper during the 1992 campaign, and pretty soon George Will is writing about discrepancies in Gore's book.  Sen. Algore is deeply embarrassed.
  • The Goreacle enlists proxies,  like Harvard's Dr. Justin Lancaster, a "scientist" who knows on which side his grant requests are buttered, to destroy Singer.
  • Singer is pissed that his reputation is being besmirched, and sues.
  • Discovery yields info about how close many warmist scientists are with Al Gore, and volumes of other damaging facts, but a real turning point is when Al Gore attempts to get Nightline's Ted Koppel to expose Singer as an incompetent fraud , liar, and dupe of  Big Energy.
  • Koppel didn’t do the vice president’s bidding and chastised Gore on the air.
“ There is some irony in the fact that Vice President Gore—— one of the most scientifically literate men to sit in the White House in this century (objection your honor, hearsay)——[is] resorting to political means to achieve what should ultimately be resolved on a purely scientific basis. The measure of good science is neither the politics of the scientist nor the people with whom the scientist associates. It is the immersion of hypotheses into the acid of truth. That’s the hard way to do it, but it’s the only way that works. ”

Of course Gore paid little attention.  By then, all of his time was being spent strong arming campaign money from his White House office telephone (unlawful), and meeting with, and taking money from Buddhist nuns (unlawful).

These files are from 1997-2002, and will be of interest to wonkers (I said wOnkers).  Amazing how the same arguments are being fought; the same charges leveled. All because Al Gore got away with Climategate I, unscathed.

laffing

Regina Spektor - "Laughing With"

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one laughs at God
When the doctor calls after some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God
When it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from the party yet

No one laughs at God
When their airplane start to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God
When they see the one they love, hand in hand with someone else
And they hope that they’re mistaken

Why they fell for the global warming hoax

“ 1. The pseudo-intellectuals fell for it because none of them ever cracked a science book.
2. The policy wonks fell for it because it gave the government more control.
3. The bleeding hearts fell for it because they always want to save the Earth.
4. The communists fell for it because it portrayed capitalists as destroying the Earth to make money.
5. The capitalists fell for it because they saw a new way to make money.
6. The Hollywood crowd fell for it because it made their pampered lives seem to have a meaning and purpose.
7. The newspapers fell for it because it was new.
8. The teachers fell for it because it was a new thing to teach the children to teach their parents.
9. The children fell for it because they wanted to show how well they are doing in school.
10. The parents fell for it because they wanted their children were doing so well in school and they wanted to be supportive.
11. The utility companies fell or it because they can raise rates.
12. The Nobel Peace Prize committee fell for it because Al Gore should have won in 2000.
13. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences fell for it because Al Gore should have won in 2000.
14. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Grammys) fell for it because Al Gore should have won in 2000.
15. The 30,000 scientists fell for it because while it was not in their field of study, they wanted to be supportive of science.

The only people who didn’t fall for it were we mouth-breathing, Bible-thumping, beer-guzzling, cousin-humping, baby-bumping, overfed, inbred, illiterate, gun-clinging, buck-toothed, trailer-park-living, truck-driving, ATV riding, Wal-mart shopping, knuckle-dragging, military-supporting, ain’t-recycling, patriotic, homophobic, xenophobic, sexist, racist hillbillies with cooties. Government by Wishful Thinking

Something about trees

Curmudgeonly & Skeptical

Theres a bit of philosophical discussion at the O Club as we speak.  It concerns "Government by Wishful Thinking." by Steven den Beste.  To wit, is he  "wrong on the use of teleology as an ontology in the realm of metaphysics - even though he correctly identifies materialism as a valid metaphysical ontology."

Right.  But that's only my segue into this delightful compound limerick from Old Spook.
“ So no, its not teleology, it is idealism that Obama subscribes to, like Hegel, one of his socialist philosophical forebears.

This limerick shows that idealism requires either magical thinking or else the existence of an omnipresent God as an observer: (Attributed to Knox or anonymous, variously)

There once was a man who said
"God Must find it exceedingly odd
To think that the tree
Should continue to be
When there's no one about in the quad."

Dear Sir:
Your astonishment's odd;
I am always about in the quad.
And that's why the tree
Will continue to be
Since observed by,
Yours faithfully, God.

An "endangerment" finding by the Environmental Protection Agency could pave the way for the government to require businesses that emit carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases to make costly changes in machinery to reduce emissions -- even if Congress doesn't pass pending climate-change legislation. OK-LAHOMA!

An update from Oklahoma

  • Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9, had a few liberals in the mix, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol.  Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values...!    The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake.  HB 1330

Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

  • Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen.  They all scattered.  HB 1804.  Hope we didn't send any of them to your state.  This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU, they said  it would be a mistake.

Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.

  • Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegals to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes.  Pelosi said it was unconstitutional.   SB 1102

Guess what........ Oklahoma   did it anyway.

  • Several weeks ago, we passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not under the Federal Government directives.  Joining  Texas, Montana and Utah as the only states to do so.  More states are likely to follow:  Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina's, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, Florida.  Save your confederate money, it appears the South is about to rise up once again.  HCR 1928 Liberals didn't like it --  But ...
Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.

  • The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns.  Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles.  I'm sure that was a set back for the criminals (and Obamaites).  Liberals didn't like it --  But ...
Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway.
