WORX

TECHNO THRILLS

Today's Stuff That Works
WORX JAWSAW
Res Ipsa Loquitor

This was a WOOT  earlier in the week, and it looked like it would fill a need since our last trimmer crapped out.  If you watch the demo, that in fact is how it worked yesterday when I followed MoSup around the yard while she pointed at stuff.

Res Ipsa LoquitorIt was $119 delivered, including the optional *12' foot extender pole (which this guy is selling for $49.99).  That turned out to be something of a stretch, since I expected the pole was 12', but it was not.  The pole measures 62", and the base unit is 34 inches. Combined, that comes to 8 feet.  Where's my other 4 feet?

It turns out that it's a blessing.  The base unit, while not all that heavy, is about all you can handle when hanging off that extension.   Adding another 4 feet would, I imagine, yield an actual load of around 2000 pounds.  BTW, I will be sending this to the company.  Maybe they will, as an act of contrition, compensate me for my grief.

Would I buy it again?  Yes.  Even with that extension.  BTW, it's extremely quiet.

*PS - It is entirely possible that I misread the Woot specs (the pole is no longer mentioned on the original spec sheet), but checking the  WORX site, they only claim 5', so what the hell.

*PPS - On second look, here's what the WOOT spec sheet said,
  • Cuts limbs up to 12 feet high; easy-to-use single-bolt Auto-Tension system
No effing way. I've been raped!

Craftsman Tool Chest

woot!

Res Ipsa Loquitor

For those who've seen this tool chest on Deals Woot (it's appeared 3-4 times) and wondered what you get for $79, it's this.  It arrived pretty much assembled, only had to put the wheels on.  I'm damned impressed.  No, it's not close to being as sturdy as Craftsman's pro models, but then you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars.  It is what it is, and I like it.  Hell, if you're food-stamps poor, use this for your TV stand, and store your cables and stuff, and "those" special tapes in the lockable drawers.  *wink wink*.

You're welcome.

COBY Who?

What I Saw

    Wooted
Me and MoSup Christmas gifted Mo-Sup with a   Famous Maker 46" 1080p 3D LED HDTV  for $405 Delivered! (Woot).  3-DShe had a lousy 32 inch SEKO that didn't get full HD, and had no recognized code for the Verizon remote.  When it was being unloaded from the truck yesterday, I looked—gasp.  HFS!  The "famous maker" is SONY!  But, when the guy put the box down in the hallway—see rollover.   It was a COBY!?!

My first thought was of Manhattan discount stores selling SOMY electronics and such.  Yikes. I Googled COBY and up popped ads from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.; so I felt better.

Getting to the bottom line—HMFS! Out of the box this is the best picture I've ever seen, and I have a Sony 46" LCD in the den. LED rocks.  I can pick this thing up with one hand. My selling point to MoSup was that she can leave it running for a year with $2 of electricity.  I overstated, but not by a whole hell of a lot.   Coby claims a yearly cost of $21.  Plus, the picture is viewable from any angle.

After charging up the included 3-D glasses, I  found RIO on Verizon, and HFS!  It's freaking 3-D! It's wonderful—way way better than the only other 3-D movie I ever saw, House of Wax. And get this.  ESPN is going 3-D at year end!  HFS!!!

Anyway, I'm happy.  MoSup's flabbergasted.  The sumbitch might break in a year, but for now this is one sweet deal. I just noticed that the Woot promo does say "Coby 46" 1080p 3D LED HDTV, 3 HDMI." Now it does. I swear it didn't when I first tuned in.

TOAST!

I'd like to toast—
Res Ipsa Loquitor

Bought this Cuisinart CPT-140BK 4-Slice Black Toaster a few weeks ago from W00T! $44.99 shipped.  Our 4th toaster in less than four years, because they all sucked.  This handles 4 slices,  and is wide and deep enough for the thickest breads/bagels.  Even better, it toasts evenly, perfectly, and quickly.  The best toaster we've ever owned.  FWIW.

Woot Pot

Woot!
personal Shopper

I bought one last time around, and it's become my go-to pot for almost anything - steaming asparagus, veggies;  boiling eggs & stuff;  french frying taters (careful); washing one pair of socks or undies.  Well made.  Perfect for needs of 1-2 peeps.    I would never pay $35 for it, and I don't think anyone did.  $18 delivered is okay. You're welcome.

Today's blow-up sleep aid

                                                                                                                                                                                             Gizmos

My New Blow-up Sleeping Companion

I bought this areobed   (Woot)about a month ago.  It seemed a nice spare bed, and at 49.95 or 59.95 (as I remember),  not much risk. It finally arrived yesterday (they did send a notice about availability problems).  Sumbitch blew me away.  I fully inflated in about 3 minutes, and I slept on it last night to try it out.  It was great .  We have a king-size Sleep Number bed, and this was it's equal, IMO.  Better, actually,  because of the adjustable back-rest.  The acid test of course is durability, and only time and usage will determine that, but for now  I give it  .

Solar Spray

Perfect Gizmos and Gadgets
Solar-Powered Fountain Pump Kit
(was for $19.99 + free shipping)

“

Res Ipsa Loquitur

I bought this from Deals Woot a few weeks ago.  Simple as simple can be.  There's no battery storage, so when there\'s no sun, no fountain.  When the sun hits it, 3 seconds later it sprays.  Brighter the sun, higher the spray.  MoSup saw this in the bird store for $63.00. I tried to order another one, but the site shuts down after the Deal is over.

If you are looking for a simply jaw-dropping amount of lube, Passion Natural Water-Based Lubricant is ready to get the fun started with this 55 gallon drum! With its superb formula you will have a natural feel that keeps you moist longer and also works great with all toy materials. Easily washes away with warm water and mild soap. You may never run out of lube again!

Size: 55 gallons

Note: Includes pump

This review is from: Passion Natural Water-Based Lubricant - 55 Gallon (Health and Beauty)
A little over a decade ago, I bought my 55 gallon drum of lube. I never thought I'd use it all but a few days ago the pump finally ran dry. I've had a lot of good times with it. My wife, too. And not just what you'd think. One day I just hosed down our hardwood-floored hallway so I could use it as a slip-n-slide. You shouldn't think of this as a 'purchase.' It's an 'investment.' An investment sure to pay off in spades.

Res Ipsa Loquitur

I bought this set about six months ago, and they are wonderful.  But here's the scary part.  Just last night I was watching an episode of  America's Test Kitchen  (The new best food show on television) where they tested storage containers.  This was the winner.  When I say "this" I mean  the one I point to above.  The price— $14.95  You might want to jump all over this deal.

You're welcome

Woot Back-up

Woot! Stuff

“

Woot

”

Check google shopping - everyone and their mother has this exact item, brand new, for considerably less. Woot has gone downhill since Amazon took over - this is but another example. (YES)

On the fence ... apparently it doesn't do system backups - only data files ... hmmm ... but amazon, cnet, and pcworld all gave raves. And the price is definitely good. Hmmm ...

These are great for people who aren't very good with computers but need a backup solution for their files. I got one for my dad and all he has to do is plug it into his laptop and it backs everything up automatically. It searches out and finds data files and you can also add folders manually that you want it to keep backed up.

This is probably not a good solution for someone who can setup their own backup on a standard external drive, knows what a NAS is, or is just looking for external storage.

Can't comment on the price however.

Woot! Mystery Box

Have any of you bought a "Woot! Mystery Box?"

This wasn't me. It was a neighbor. When she said she was just 19 he sent it back because his wife told him the legal age was 35. It wasn't me though.

No, really

Think of the fun.  For $20 you can turn one loose on the airport concourse, or during a White House tour.  Or mate it with your Swiffer. This is the toy of the year even if it doesn't work (although it evidently does).

Don't Cross Me

Testing the CB-150 $10 Crossbow Pistol

It took two burly manly men to string it.  The darts are sharp as hell.  Why it wouldn't penetrate cardboard is beyond me; maybe it needs to hit absolute tip-on.  The ricochet did hurt,  This deal would serve as a useful deterrent, believe me.  Staring down the barrel of this is every bit as intimidating as a pistol.  It's worth $10.
