Red-Wine Researcher Charged With 'Photoshop' Fraud
Dipak K. Das

A University of Connecticut researcher known for touting the health benefits of red wine is guilty of 145 counts offabricating and falsifying data with image-editing software, according to a 3-year university investigation made public Wednesday.

The researcher, Dipak K. Das, PhD, is a director of the university's Cardiovascular Research Center (CRC) and a professor in the Department of Surgery. The university stated in a press release thatit has frozen all externally funded research in Dr. Das's lab and turned down $890,000 in federal research grants awarded to him. The process to dismiss Dr. Das from the university is already underway, the university added.

Dr. Das replied in response:
"I became the Devil for the Health Center, and so did all the Indians working for me ... The evidence for conspiracy and racial hatred is overwhelming."

"As Maine goes. so goes the nation"

       WHAT GUMMINT DOES

                   Welfare recipients outnumber taxpayers
That's the situation Maine faces, and likely other states as well

Su casha, Mi casha

Paul LePage, the Republican governor of Maine, mentioned an uncomfortable truth in a radio address this month: Maine has more welfare recipients than income tax payers.

Democrats challenged the accuracy of this assertion.

The Bangor Daily News fact-checked LePage and discovered that 445,074 Mainers paid state income tax,  while 453,194 received some sort of state aid.

In Maine, Medicaid, welfare, food stamps and subsidies for education have a combined enrollment of 660,000.  [Full]

I like the part where Democrats challenged the report. Like someone had called their children bastards (which I reckon is how they see it).  The best way to attack this unsustainable way of life is to make it a joke, like these actual welfare application statements.

Too cute by half.  I've had Joe Klein stuck in my craw for, oh,  say 20 years.  He was a ground zero media wake-up call for me.  I realized the media are for sale— cheap,  to the closest leftist ideologue.  *spits*  Maybe Joe's dying of cancer and wants to make amends with this belated epiphany. Who knows? Or cares.

The Clinton mafia are not quite as good as the Kennedy's at  hounding book and television editors into submission, when the Camelot fantasy is threated,  but they are pretty damned effective  in a thuggish way.  Maybe it's because so many harbor doubts about the truthfulness of those, er, stories. I fully expect the Clintons to use the same tactics employed when ABC's The Path to 9-11 was scheduled to run.    Maybe they'll have Sandy Berger steal the film negative.

We'll know how dedicated PBS is to truth-telling if  his rape of 19 year-old Eileen Wellstone  near Oxford University in 1969  is covered.  Don't hold your breath.

Since you brought it up —

Nothing like manufacturing your own conclusions. I’m not even sure why Palin’s alleged relationship with Rice would be shocking, if true. What are we supposed to be upset about? That a then-single Sarah Palin had sex with a then-single Glen Rice? Is it the inter-racial nature of the alleged relationship that’s supposed to shock us?

U.S. Marines probe video of men urinating on Taliban corpses
Mercedem Suam, LOTIUM

Jan. 11 - Graphic undated video from YouTube shows what is believed to be U.S. Marines urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan. The U.S. Marine Corps said it would investigate the video, which was posted on YouTube and other websites on January 11, 2012. Reuters has not independently verified the authenticity of this video.

So?  The standard by which I judge trivial things that todays liberal asshats turn into war crimes, e.g. the Abu Ghraib fraternity hazing, is World War II.  That's the war we won, remember?  For example, would these stories have appeared in 1944?
  • Army investigates intent of General Patton urinating into German river
  • Marines investigate circumstances behind Japanese corpses found earless on Saipan.
  • Army Air Corp denied go-ahead to bomb German munitions factory; Fear collateral damage
Hell, and be honest, how many of you would like to urinate on the living 10th Circuit Court judges who just ruled in favor of Sharia law?  Shame on you if not.  It's not the actions, but the level of response that's telling.  We are become a nation ruled by pasty-faced,  feel-good liberal  asshats with a record of muckin-up everything they touch.  Yes, I would be known as TRKOF&S The Barbarian, but alternately, Rodger the Conqueror.

Court: Sharia Law Can't be Banned

Bad Judges

10th Circuit: Amendment Banning Sharia Law is Not OK

WYSIWYGSometimes voters get behind an idea, and we think to ourselves, why? Why are they even bothering when that idea, were it to become law, would be struck down as unconstitutional faster than we can utter “temporary restraining order?”

We smugly revisited that thought on Tuesday upon hearing that the Denver-based 10th Circuit had upheld a lower-court ruling keeping an amendment to the Oklahoma constitution from becoming law.

The amendment, overwhelmingly approved by Oklahoma voters last year, prevents judges from basing rulings on international law — and specifically mentions Islamic law, often known as Shariah law.

Specifically, the 10th Circuit upheld a lower court’s decision to preliminarily enjoin the amendment from going into effect. It ruled that there is a legitimate issue as to whether the initiative violates the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause
[Full 10th Circuit: Amendment Banning Sharia Law is Not OK]

Why do we have legislatures when, in the final analysis,  a judge can undo their produce with a pen stoke.  I am not the first to propose, nor is it even my first time doing so, that the United States is ruled by a judicial oligarchy.  I am quite certain that a current Tom Jefferson instruction would be "kill everybody and begin you anewith."  John Wayne would,  for sure.

The recent Portland State University study of glaciers on Mt. As an exercise in critical thinking, I used to have my graduate students take a paper like this apart, piece by piece, to show any scientific errors. Here is an analysis of bad assumptions and errors in the Mt. Adams study. [Anthony Watts, cont]

Bad science; a.k.a. ideology friendly science,  is one  thing Algore might actually have invented, when as senator he bequeathed taxpayer funded grants to science mills willing to play flash-for-cash.  Who's funding them now?  The political left, and groups like the Sierra Club, who use bad science as $fear-raisers.

Where Romeny is Anointed ...

Making Sense of Republicans Attacking Capitalism
Romney gets annointed

WYSIWYG
RUSH: In starting this discussion, they're trying to explain this, dissect what's going on on the Republican side with the attacks on Romney and capitalism and so forth,
with language, by the way, that's used by the left.  I want to read to you some excerpts of a piece by Jay Nordlinger, who writes a column at National Review called Impromptus.  He says, "I was watching a clip of Romney tangling with an Occupy protester last week. Romney was defending corporate profits. I was astounded. I don’t think I had ever seen a candidate do this. When the subject comes up, you’re supposed to denounce corporate profits or say, 'Hey, nice weather we’re having, huh?'"

That gave me great pause.  I had to stop and think.  He's right, frustratingly so.  He's right.  No matter who it is, when the subject of profits comes up on our side, they usually duck it and run for the hills, which is maddening.  Where are our people taking the occasion to educate people who have been mal-informed, ill-informed, or lied to about capitalism from the first day they stepped into public school?  Profits are evil, they are so evil that even people on our side duck the discussion.  Jay Nordlinger is reminding himself here that he saw a clip of Romney arguing with an Occupy protester defending corporate profits.  How unusual is this?  He then goes on to point out that Phil Gramm, the former Senator from Texas, conservative and an economist by trade, "once explained to Bill Buckley why he never talked about free trade on the stump."

Now, listen to this.  This is fascinating to me.  Phil Gramm said, "Free trade benefits almost everybody ... [Full transcript]

Romney is already the nominee, now anointed.  Properly so in this context.  It's all too predictable though.  I'm weary of it.  Pay no attention. I'm a crazy bag lady,  yelling about stuff I found in my naval.  Say, how about them Crimson Tiders?  To bad it wasn't a California team they beat the snot out of.

"She particularly resented the way power in Illinois was locked up generation after generation by a small group of families, all white Irish Catholic — the Daleys in Chicago, the Hynes and Madigans statewide.

Obama White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley, one of those hated white Irish Catholics, resigned the same weekend the book’s juiciest tidbits leaked out. [Full]

Raja,

Fred has a column which appeared yesterday. Pretty interesting, and is a cautionary piece on the issue of Iran … and attacking it. He mentions a friend of mine, David Isby.

Skoonj

WYSIWYG

[...]
To begin, I will ask the following questions of the candidates, and for that matter of Mr. Obama, and of the Secretary of Defense, a generic bureaucrat.

Can you explain: Convergence zones, base bleed, Kursk, range-gate pull-off, artillery at Dien Bien Phu, IR cross-over, Tet and queen sacrifice, Brahmos 2, CIWIS, supercruise, side-lobe penetration, seven-eighty-twice gear, super-cavitating torpedoes, phased arrays, pulse Doppler, the width of Hormuz versus the range of Iranian cruise missiles, DU, discarding sabot, frequency agility, Chobham armor, and pseudo-random PRF?

These, gentlemen, are the small talk of serious students of the military. Here I mean men like David Isby, author of such books as Weapons and Tactics of the Soviet Army for Jane's, which you likely have never heard of, or William S. Lind, probably the best military mind (though, or because, not a soldier), that I have encountered. If you are unfamiliar with them, and with the things listed above, you are unfamiliar with the military. Yet you campaign for possession of the trigger.

Perhaps a little humility, perish the thought, and a little self-examination might be in order. [continued]

Fred, as is his wont lately, gets a bit carried away at times.

"Note that in the foregoing list of wars [Iraq ... Afghanistan}, all were expected to end quickly.  "

No,  they were not. True, the media began calling Afghanistan a "quagmire," and waving the  surrender flag about two days into the mission to destroy al-Qaeda and the Taliban, but most people understood that this was a long term commitment; a war to the death with radical Islam.  Then came Obama.

By the by, skoonj finishes with this intruction —

"As to me, I think an attack is only OK if we use nukes. They are our Hallmark: When you care enough to send the very best. "

The Obamissariat's Friday document dump contained the final list of Obamacare waivers.  There will continue to be waivers granted, but the Direktor will no longer name them.  This in accordance with the Administration's  Most Open Government Ever policy.

"Friday marks the last time HHS will have to update the total number of waivers, putting to rest a recurring political firestorm."

 Here's what else we've learned.
  • Obamacare is so flexible that members of Congress are exempt. Congress has a waiver.
  • All told, 1,231 companies applied for and received waivers from the law’s restrictions on annual benefit caps
  • The 96 denied waivers were to companies that supported the GOP and or said something bad about the Obamacare.
  • When added together, the healthcare waivers excuse about 4 million people, or about 3 percent of the population, from having to participate, HHS said.
  • Labor unions representing 543,812 workers received waivers
  • Private employers with a total of 69,813 employees, many of whom work for small businesses, were granted waivers.”
Waivers Shmavers
  • All waivers expire in 2014. Too late then, schmucks.
In fairness. an Administration supporter explains their  position.
