Missouri nullifies federal gun control, passing a law that bars the state from enforcing all federal gun control statutes, “past, present or future”:
The legislation specifically bans all state employees from enforcing or attempting to enforce any acts running counter to the proposed law. Such a tactic is an extremely effective way to stop a federal government busting at the seams. Even the National Governors Association admitted the same recently when they sent out a press release noting that “States are partners with the federal government in implementing most federal programs.”
That means states can create impediments to enforcing and implementing “most federal programs.”  On federal gun control measures, Judge Andrew Napolitano suggested that a single state standing down would make federal gun laws “nearly impossible to enforce” within that state.
We have another session of complete minority; we’ll be doing well to stand off more of Michael Paymar and Heather Martens’ bills.
This is one of the things that you get when the adults take over.

Bad Behavior Military Gays

Gay and lesbian troops perform in drag on American military base

Troops based at the Kadena Air Base in Japan know how to party. On Saturday, six gay and straight service members applied some of their finest makeup and lip synced to "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" in what is believed to be first drag queen and king show on an American military base. The show was thrown in support for the base's recently formed OutServe-SLDN chapter, a nonprofit advocacy group for the army's LGBT community.

Navy Lt. Marissa Greene told Stars and Stripes she only expected to sell 75 tickets for the variety show, but ended up selling more than 400 in ten days. The event went through the same approval process as other on-base fundraisers go through, with the only caveat being that it was not allowed to be labeled a "drag show" in its publicity materials. The show was warmly received by spectators, who rocked out to performances by the likes of Manny Nuff and Chocolate Sunrise ("a crowd favorite," the website notes.)

Just a few years ago, performances like these would have been grounds for a possible discharge. The repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell has made it possible for events like this to occur. --Jordan Valinsky

This left-leaning San Francisco style homosexual culture—in-your-face homosexual culture— is repugnant to me. For starters, public display of affection ought end with your last drunk-ass fraternity party, let alone public buggery.  Srsly.  Plus, it's a good bet that the real majority are, like me, sick of bad behavior from what's likely a tyrannical minority of minorities,  whether it's gays, whiny college brats, Hispanics, Blacks, or anthropogenic global warming alarmists. Our military have 238 years of tradition, and while I am pissed that Obama took it upon himself to dictate new gay policy, it's a fait accompli.  But, for chrisake,  how about trying to maintain some military bearing.  Learn to behave yourselves, and respect other people.

There were the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" as they called themselves, Drag Queens dressed as nuns, and the Janus Society, who believe sadomasochism should be the order of the day.  The slogans were interesting.  I saw signs, pictures, T-shirts that said, "2, 4, 6, 8, MANY OF US AREN'T STRAIGHT," said by CALIFORNIA TEACHERS ASSOC., bragging about HOMOSEXUALITY BEING TAUGHT IN THE CLASSROOMS IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILDREN.  One man carried a sign that said, "I WANT TO SHOWER WITH A TERRIFIED MARINE."  Another carried a sign showing a man masturbating and they intended to have a pun, tongue-in-cheek, on the subject of stopping AIDS.  It was a "Stop AIDS project."  So they showed the picture of the man masturbating with the sign saying "BEAT IT LONG!  BEAT IT HARD!  BEAT IT GOOD!  BEAT AIDS!"  Get it?

Rediscovering Our Greatness

GOD BLESS AMERICA

“This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, “You’re In The Army Now.” At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper – it’s Ronald Reagan.

Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing “God Bless America”on the radio, they all pretended to have “dust in their eyes” as they wiped away a tear or two… (So, in case you get ‘dust in your eyes” have some tissues handy. I did)”

from israpundit.

More of this story, via M. Franciois

The time was 1940.  America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler  was taking over Europe, and Americans were afraid we'd have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans.
This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers, and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith.
Kate was also large; plus size, as we now say, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings". Kate  Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming  over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time.
Kate was also patriotic.  It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America, and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (who also wrote "White Christmas") and asked him to write a song that would make Americans feel good again about their country.  When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her.
He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to and she worked on it with her studio orchestra.  She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from God Bless America. Any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties from this song.
This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, "You're In The Army Now."  At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper; it's Ronald Reagan.
To this day, God Bless America stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country.  Back in 1940, when Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt whether she realized just how successful the results would be for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry..... and for many generations of Americans to follow.  Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you'll enjoy it and treasure it even more.
Many people don't know there's a lead in to the song since it usually starts with "God Bless America....." So here's the entire song as originally sung.

RIP Jim Caesar

James M. Caesar
December 11, 1945 - February 13, 2014
Bothell, Washington

Good morning--my update this time is a difficult one for me to write.  My darling Jim died in his sleep early the morning of February 14th while we were on Kauai to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our engagement on that day.  He was in excellent health, vigorous and full of good humor until the very end.  His final words to me before we went to sleep were "I love you."  He just did not awaken. It gives me great solace to know that he will be forever young.  Jim's funeral and internment will be at Arlington Cemetery, with full military honors.  However, it will be some months down the road--there is a waiting list for grave sites abt 4 months long.  Until then, his rests in a facility known as a  the Solders' Shelter which is near Arlington.  I will of course be back there for the final ceremonies--perhaps I can see you at that time.  And you are of course welcomed and encouraged by me and my family to attend.  I will send more information when it is available to me.  Jim and I so much cherished the opportunity life gave us to be your neighbors--what luck!  Love,  Betsy

Awarded for actions during the Vietnam War

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain James M. Caesar, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Caesar distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander in the wing ship of a light fire team of helicopter gunships in support of Allied ground elements near Fire Support Base Five. Captain Caesar voluntarily flew his aircraft against heavily fortified enemy small arms and anti-aircraft positions. Despite the intense barrage of fire, Captain Caesar continually made close runs, in extremely poor visibility and hazardous terrain, to place highly effective and accurate rocket fire on the hostile positions. Captain Caesar displayed outstanding leadership abilities, directing his co-pilot's fire to suppress the enemy positions and at the same time covering the vulnerable lead aircraft. His previous combat experience enabled him to comprehend the friendly elements plight and assist them in finding cover from the attacking enemy. His outstanding skill as an aviator allowed him to successfully complete the mission. Captain Caesar's courage, professionalism, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.

Mo Sup checked her e-mail late last night and found this from an old neighbor, and still good friend, Betsy Caesar.  I still haven't quite wrapped my head around it.

Meeting Jim and Betsy was something of a serendipitous accident. With Jim's tour in Germany ending, he announced his intention to retire when his current enlistment was up.  He had to choose a stateside home of record from whence he would be processed, and where their household belongings would be sent. Since they were from the Seattle area, Jim wrote "Washington."  Jim was given orders to report to his new home: Fort Meade MD (just outside of Washington D.C.)

Jim found a job test piloting, and they purchased a home next to ours.  Our good fortune.  Later Jim was offered a job with Boeing, in Seattle, and off they went, but would visit us several times.

I can't let Jim go without offering this small paean to his memory.  RIP Jim.

Big Cheese, Stilton Jarlsberg, is at it again

Once again, America's chicken has come home to roost. Barack Obama's utterly spineless response to Russian military action in Ukraine has pretty much signaled to the world that the United States is officially no longer a meaningful player in foreign affairs and no advocate for freedom or democracy.

The president's appalling lack of seriousness was on full display when, less than a half hour after tersely declaring that Russian intervention in Ukraine could force the United States to "stand with the international community in affirming there will be costs, including shipping, handling, and sales tax," he rushed to a Democratic fundraiser, declared it to be "Happy Hour," and then swapped jokes with a high-roller about the possibility of nuclear war with Russia.

Then on Saturday, as a freshly-emboldened Russia rolled additional troops into Ukraine, the president's national security team met to discuss the rapidly evolving crisis and, upon finishing their deliberations, noticed that there was one Krispy Kreme doughnut left over because Barry hadn't bothered to attend the meeting. Although, according to a White House spokesperson, the president was later filled in by Susan Rice, who suggested that the president launch a drone attack on YouTube as soon as possible.

Vladimir Putin has correctly assessed that there is no threat whatsoever from the president whose "red line" became a punchline. Barack Obama has turned our once-respected national strength into an international joke.

And it's only the enemies of freedom who are laughing.

Kerry the Ass-Clown- Sitting in a Tree ...

U.S. Spies Said No Russian Invasion of Ukraine—Putin Disagreed

The Daily Beast has an important scoop on the US Intelligence failure on Ukraine, read it all. Here is the key paragraph: Despite Russia placing 150,000 troops near Ukraine, John Kerry’s team didn’t think Putin would invade Ukraine because Putin’s people said they wouldn’t.

“There was good reason to think Putin wouldn’t do it. Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov told Secretary of State John Kerry that Russia respected the territorial integrity of the Ukraine. U.S. intelligence assessments concluded that the 150,000-man Russian military exercises announced by Putin on Wednesday were not preparations for an invasion of Ukraine because no medical units accompanied the troops. And Russian and U.S. diplomats were still working on Iran and Syrian diplomacy. All of this followed a successful Winter Olympic games for Putin’s Russia.” [Full]

Previously

"After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence – the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next." Sarah Palin, Reno, Nevada on October 21, 2008.

Foreign Policy labeled Palin's prediction as "strange."

HER HAPPINESS

                                              Little Things in Your Hands

Casting Call

While we prepare to gird our loins against what may well be extended periods of privation, it is necessary that we don't neglect entertainment.

I realized that even for the purpose of reading it might be advantageous to render the short story subject dramatically, since this method is, after all, one of extreme realism, which should also result in an increase of interest.-Horace Holley.
To that end I am proposing that we hearken back to a period when self sufficiency, in all matters, was a way of life.  I've planted below a script from a ca. 1916 play,  "Her Happiness"

Do with it what you will, but I will offer some suggestions, just as I once did for a young dramatist named Lee Strasberg; you may have heard of him.  Method acting is dependent on  immersing oneself  in your character;  bathing yourself in a mood.  I suggest listening to  the
above posted recording of John & Marsha to that end.

There are many possibilities.  If you and your partner would like to read for us,  simply record it and send it to me for review.  If you wish only to play one role, read those lines in sequence, and I will join yours with a counterpart.  If I receive only one character's lines, I will supply the other, and in that way we can off our own production right here.  In any event, I see
interesting possibilities.

HER HAPPINESS

Darkness. A door opens swiftly. Light from outside shows a woman entering. She is covered by a large cape, but the gleam of hair and brow indicates beauty. She closes the door behind her. Darkness.

The Woman

Paul! Paul! Are you here, Paul?

A Voice

Yes, Elizabeth, I am here.

The Woman

Oh thank God! You are here! I felt so strange—I thought ... Oh, I cannot tell you what I have been thinking! Turn on the light, Paul.

The Voice

You are troubled, dear. Let the darkness stay a moment. It will calm you. Sit down, Elizabeth.

The Woman

Yes.... I am so faint! I had to come, Paul! I had to see you, to know that you were.... I know I promised not to, but I was going mad! Just to touch you, to hold you ... but it's all right now.

The Voice

It is all right now, Elizabeth.

The Woman

I thought I could stand it, dear, I thought I could stand it. It wasn't myself—I swear to you it wasn't—nor him. I, I can stand all that, now. It was something else, something that came over me all at once. I saw—Oh Paul! the thing I saw! But it's all right now....

The Voice

It is all right, Elizabeth, because ours is love, love that is made of light, and not merely blind desire.

The Woman

Ours is love. We are love!

The Voice

So that even if we are separated—even if you cannot come to me yet, we shall not lose conviction nor joy.

The Woman

Yes, Paul. I will not make it harder for you. I know it is hard, and that it was for my sake you could bring yourself to bind me not to see you again.

The Voice

Love is, world without end. That is all we need to know.

The Woman

World without end, amen.

The Voice

And because I knew the power and truth of love in you I put this separation upon us.

The Woman

For my sake. I know it now, Paul! And trust me! You can trust me, Paul! Not time, nor distance, nor trouble nor change shall move me from the heights of love where I dwell.

The Voice

And because I knew the happiness of love could not endure in deceit, nor the wine give life if we drank it in a cup that was stained, I put you from me—in the world's sight we meet no more.

The Woman

In the world's sight ... and in the sight of God and man shall I be faithful to him from now on, in thought and deed and word, as a heart may be. Yes, Paul ... even that can I endure for your sake. For I know that hereafter—

The Voice

For love there is neither here nor hereafter, but the realization of love is ever according to his triumph. This has come to me suddenly, a light in the darkness, and I have won the truth by supreme pain.

The Woman

That, too, Paul. Pain.... I have been weak. I gave way to my nerves, but now in your presence I am strong again, and I shall not fail you.

The Voice

My presence is where your love is, and as your love so my nearness. Love me as I love you now, and I shall be more real to you than your hands and your eyes.

The Woman

Bone of one bone, and flesh of one flesh....

The Voice

Spirit of one spirit! The flesh we have put away.

The Woman

That, too, Paul. Oh the glory of it! So be my happiness that I shall not wish it changed, even before the Throne!

The Voice

I have given you happiness?

The Woman

Perfect happiness, Paul. I am happy, happier than I ever was before. But before I go home from here for the last time, turn on the light, Paul, that we may be to each other always as the wonder of this moment. For the last time, Paul. Paul?... Paul? Where are you? Why don't you answer?... Paul! (She turns on the light. It is a studio. At the piano, fallen forward upon the keys, sits the body of a man. There is a revolver on the floor beside him.) Paul!... As I saw him! Is this my happiness. Oh God, must I?
