ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Missouri Governor Eric Greitens was indicted Thursday on one felony count of invasion of privacy.

The charge says Greitens knowingly took a photograph of a woman in a "state of full or partial nudity without the knowledge and consent" of that woman. The charge goes on to say the photograph was taken "in a place where a person would have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and the defendant subsequently transmitted the image contained in the photograph in a manner that allowed access to that image via a computer."

Prosecutor Gardner is a Democrat who has faced her own share of scrutiny.

Last summer, after Gardner's first six months on the job, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that at least a dozen experienced prosecutors had left her staff. By August, St. Louis radio station KMOX was reporting that staffing issues were having an effect on the resolution of criminal cases.

In January, a St. Louis judge disqualified Gardner's office from prosecuting a police shooting case, the Post-Dispatch reported. The judge ruled that the removal would "avoid an appearance of impropriety" because her office was simultaneously investigating whether the shooting was justified.

In a separate statement, Greitens' lawyers called the charges "baseless and unfounded," in a statement to the Post-Dispatch. They'll reportedly file a motion to dismiss the charges.

Greitens, a Republican, is a decorated former Navy SEAL officer whose received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, among other awards, according to his service record. He enlisted in the Navy in 2000.

Case Dismissed Against Kentucky “Drone Slayer” for Shooting Down Spying Drone Flying Over His Property

In a recent ruling, a Kentucky man has prevailed in a lawsuit he faced over shooting down a drone that entered his property. While the question of where a drone can operate on private property remains to be answered, the ruling appears to be a victory for property owners.

William Meredith became known as the “drone slayer” in 2015, after he used a shotgun to dismantle a drone operated by David Boggs, that he says was flying over his property in front of himself and his daughter. Meredith initially faced felony charges of endangerment and criminal mischief for shooting down the drone. The criminal charges were dismissed by Judge Rebecca Ward in Bullitt County District Court, citing recollections from witnesses who said that the drone was flying under the tree line. Ward also said that Meredith was within his rights to shoot down the drone. [Both Barrels]

And This ...

GAH!  I think everyone instinctively understands the threat posed by drones, but the convenience of having packages delivered 30 minutes after placing the order, or hovering outside the honey next door's bedroom window will win the day. And then we'll pay the piper. These things are traffic cams on steroids.

DroneDefender:
New Rifle that Shoots Drones Out of the Sky Without Firing a Single Bullet

Due to U.S. Federal regulations, this is a simulation of our DroneDefender. It has, though, been successfully tested in field trials.

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

(assorted comments)
  • That's no fun to watch it slowly land. We want it to blow up in the air.

  • The FAA continues to consider drones and quadrotors to be 'aircraft' and as such deliberately downing one is generally frowned upon, whether that's through electromagnetic or lead-induced failure.

  • Drones are great, but not when someone is doing something bad with one, like dropping contraband into a prison or flying into restricted airspace. We've got an answer.

  • You have just as much right to send an electronic signal on a public band as the person who is operating the drone. The fact that your signal might interfere with theirs is just their poor luck. As long as it's within a public band, then no laws are broken. It would be the same if they were using a walkie and your radio interfered with theirs.

  •  Not sure what part of CFR 93 you're referring to as it primarily deals with airport comms and operations. None of the drones I've seen would step on those frequencies.

  • FCC Part 97 deals with licensed amateur station operators, commonly referred to as 'ham' radios. None of the commonly available drones (ie: purchased off the shelf) operate in licensed private bands.

  • Almost all of the drones sold today are using the same bands as other common RC items (model planes, cars, etc). There is no law that I've seen which would prevent someone from using these same unlicensed frequencies. So again... you have the same rights as the drone operator does to use those frequencies. They are public, NOT private.
It appears the device doesn't so much "shoot" the drone down as hijack it!  Wow. collect them all!  IMO, drones are another instance where technology offers compelling consumer gadgetry; but  gives a rogue gummint another weapon to subdue dissension. In case we ever have such a gummint.  Ahem. So, protect our freedom;  shoot them all down. That's what T.J. would recommend.

Aside:  I bet there's a way to electronically destroy spy cams with leaving any fingerprints.  Booo-Ya!

Gnat Warfare

Gnat Warfare

This might be why no other country would want to attack this country of ours.   Everybody is armed, and we know how to use our weapons.  - Metzger

Since we as a nation have accepted (even welcomed) government cameras and sensors that watch everything we do,  I suppose allowing government to use drones is inevitable.  If  however I was the Governor of, say, Maryland, I'd make shooting down drones in your airspace a misdemeanor carrying a $5 fine.  I would not be reelected because people will have become used to the 2 hour drone delivery from Amazon and other retailers. What the hell, I could never be elected in the first place; MD is firmly a nanny state.  Click-Click

The drone hunting license

Police State Culture

— it's drone season for hunters in Colorado town

Supporters acknowledge the licenses would be only a symbolic stance against government surveillance, and a Deer Trail, Colo., election authorizing them is still a month away. Yet about 1,000 people have applied for one.

Depleted Uranium Shotgun Shells

Lucky Gunner's Drone Shells - A Product Courtesy of LuckyGunner.com

Details

Big Brother is watching, and with modern technology, if Big Brother can see it, he can turn it into a giant smoking crater with just the press of a button. Even your secret remote wilderness bunker is no match for today’s military drones. In partnership with Tacnition Ammo, Lucky Gunner is happy to introduce a new way for you to fight back against the All Seeing Eye with our new anti-drone shotgun loads.

Years of research and development have gone into these highly effective 12 gauge shells that can turn even Joe Biden’s double barrel shotgun into an instant anti-aircraft platform. Specially formulated propellant is capable of launching 9 pellets of depleted uranium rounds up to 1 km straight up into the air. With accurate shot placement, this armor piercing buckshot will disable vital systems on modern military drones. At minimum, the force of impact will disable navigation systems, but in over 60% of our field tests, the drones were incapable of remaining airborne after contact with our Anti-Drone Loads.

NOTE: Drone Loads are intended for entertainment use only and not intended to be used in any manner not in accordance with federal and local laws. Lucky Gunner assumes no responsibility for any illegal activity involving Tacnition Drone Ammo.

Drone on

In early 2012 the U.S. Congress authorized the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act. Within this bill is a provision calling for the deployment of some 30,000 robotic drones over the skies of America by 2015, arguably the boldest overt domestic surveillance initiative to have ever been introduced in the land of the free. With an average of some 600 drones allocated per state, this future network of highly advanced surveillance systems promises to give law enforcement, military and intelligence assets unprecedented video and audio access into the lives of every single American.

Privacy advocates are justifiably outraged.

But whenever government attempts to institute a ban on contraband items ... cont

Drone On

TECHNO THRILLS

Drone on

thoR~ sent me this link to a drone with a built in camera for the commercial market (Buy one here).

Comment under the video:  "The AR 2.0 cannot do what is demonstrated in this video, this was a fancy commercial. The battery lasts about 8 minutes and you cant pilot it using just the camera due to the delay. Plus any wind and you cannot control it with any sort of direction. Wifi range is short. That being said, it's still some high tech fun for $300"

So, this is a baby step.  Yes, I know that experienced RC enthusiasts have more options, but they can be quite expensive, and impossible to fly (ever buy one of those little battery powered helicopters?) unless you have already crashed about $10,000 worth while learning.

Anyway, when the technology gets to a point where our drones can compete with (destroy) domestic government drones, they will be made illegal to own.
