Smelly Rugs

Something Wonderful This Way Comes
A story of travail, suffering, and finally joy

Bissell 7350 PROdry Fast-Drying Carpet Cleaner
With Reagan the Wonder Dog's departure *sniff* came the job of deciding whether our two oriental rugs were salvageable, and how to go about it?  The rug in worst shape was from the den (top roll over), where I rule.  Whatever it was that caused her to lose all bladder control, lo those last 9 months, made her urine smell become progressively worse until *gasp* - I relented and it too went into stinky storage.   MoSup had rolled-up the living room rug months ago, so it was spared the god awful stuff,  and was returned to duty in quick order.

A neighbor happened to relate a rug cleaning nightmare of her own to MoSup.  She had hired a professional cleaner to rid carpet pet smell.  He failed at everything but presenting a bill.  Then, her sister who had worked for a rug retailer said that what they used was Windex with a surface washing.  We figured our rugs would cost somewhere between $400-600 with a professional, so what the hell - let's try it. Then. a serendipitous moment.

WindexMoSup suggested that she sure would like the Bissell cleaner they were demonstrating on Home Shopping.  That's her way of saying, "buy it for me."  Placed the order on the spot.  Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to tell you that this is the greatest money we ever spent!  We usually rent a grocery store cleaner, but they pump out so much water that our orientals actually started to shrink.  This Bissell surface-sprays, then sucks up all the water.  It took a few days of using Woolite Pet Urine remover and Windex, but I'll be damned if the den rug isn't bright as hell, and utterly orderless now.

I do kinda miss the Reagan smell .  MoSup does not.

You're welcome.

 L. Brent Bozell to deliver ClimateGate news to nets via bicycle courier.

Curmudgeonly & Skeptical

For 14 straight days, the three broadcast networks have failed to report on the great and growing ClimateGate scandal on their weekday morning or evening news programs.  How to explain this?

Perhaps it is that ABC, NBC and CBS have not yet heard of the story, despite two weeks of non-stop reporting on and discussion of ClimateGate in a whole host of media outlets.

So as not to offend the networks’ pro-global warming sensibilities, MRC President Brent Bozell is looking to have the stories delivered by bicycle messenger. [Full]

Official disclosure of
extraterrestrial life imminent

Have Obama's base been ordered to board the mother ship?
#B's comment (Official disclosure of extraterrestrial life is imminent.) set me on a new course.  First, the gist.
The impending disclosure announcement follows upon the secret implementation of a year long openness policy on UFOs and extraterrestrial life. Over the period February 12-14, 2008, the United Nations held closed doors discussions where approximately 30 nations secretly agreed on a new openness policy on UFOs and extraterrestrial life in 2009.  ....

Obama’s September 24, 2009 chairing of the UN Security Council meeting on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, signaled his emerging leadership role in tackling major global issues such as nuclear weapons. The Nobel Peace Prize was an important step in giving global legitimacy to President Obama in making an extraterrestrial disclosure announcement...
The efficaciousness of the writer's news aside, it's pretty clear that he's an Obama-UN nut job.  I'll come back to that.

Last June, or thereabouts, a guest on Rollye James Show, prolly David Wilcock on the America After Dark circuit, insisted that this announcement was forthcoming within two weeks.  I didn't hold my breath, but not because I don't accept the possibility. I view the existence of alien life as a certainty, and quite probable that our government has known as much for decades.  There's no reason to argue about what will be made manifestly clear if the announcement isn't forthcoming, so let's stipulate  it will happen  What would it mean?  Some  thoughts (so we're not caught flat-footed).
  • Why would Obama reveal what presidents, possibly going back to Truman,  didn't?
One of the reasons for prior restraint may  have been the concern over how a  Christian nation would react to the news?  Hmmmm. Some theology might be under pressure, just as Galileo terrified the church with his "earth rotates around the sun," science.   Overall, it would be of little consequence, IMO.   But, is that how Obama would view it?  I don't think so.  He'd see it as an opportunity to fracture a formidable road block to his statist religion.  In other words, people wishing to deliver a crushing blow to Western culture would revel in the disclosure.
  • What proof would Obama offer?
Aside from having a saucer land on the White House lawn, what can he provide? The same proof as given for his Hawaiian birth.  His word for it.  Oh, there'll be lots of scientists, prolly refuges from global warming, who would swear it.  Bottom line, he doesn't need proof.

The Nobel Peace Prize was an important step in giving global legitimacy to President Obama in making an extraterrestrial disclosure announcement...
  • How would he benefit?

Aliens

Relevancy

Some years ago I advanced a theory that just came back via a MoSup e-mail.  Does that mean I'm relevant?

The year is 1947

Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little over 60 years ago, witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell ,
New Mexico . This is a well known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations.

However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of April 1948, nine months after that historic day, the following people were born:

  Albert A. Gore, Jr..
  Hillary Rodham
  John F. Kerry
  William J. Clinton
  Howard Dean
  Nancy Pelosi
  Dianne Feinstein
  Charles E.. Schumer
  Barbara Boxer

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep and jackasses?   I certainly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It did for me.

No wonder they support the bill to help illegal aliens!

PALMVIEW, Texas (CBS/AP) President Barack Obama's approval rating may be hovering in the 50 percent range, but that doesn't mean America's Commander-in-Chief isn’t catching on with new constituents.

There is now a line of Ecstasy pills made in the image of the 44th president of the United States, according to Texas police who have snatched a batch off the streets.

Ecstasy is known for a sense of elation, diminished feelings of fear and anxiety, and ability to induce a sense of intimacy with others.

Perhaps a good Election Day strategy to get out the vote?

Stupid Conspiracies
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States. - Sarah Palin

You may suppose that those with a resilient faith in end-of-days global warming would be more distraught than anyone over these actions. You'd be wrong. PeTA Terrorism

PeTA a Terrorist Group?

On page 4, the USDA lists PETA under the section labeled “Terrorist Threat,” listing it alongside the notorious domestic terrorist groups Animal Liberation Front, Earth Liberation Front, and Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty. (The USDA removed the form from its website yesterday after we started spreading the word. But you can find a PDF copy preserved here.)

Curmudgeonly & Skeptical

I've put my Pastor Niemöller hat on for this one.  On the one hand, I'm leery when gummint, most especially this gummint, starts putting people on lists.  On the other, PeTA is not just a collection of misguided pinheads who like rats, they're violent True Believers for whom this a a religion.  Unless you don't think throwing blood on women wearing fur, or breaking into laboratories & destroying property constitutes violence. PeTA members are as big a canker blossom as this nation has on its backside.  Founder Ingrid Newkirk's DNA [“Humans have grown like a cancer. We're the biggest blight on the face of the earth.”] runs through offshoot Animal Liberation Front, "which have claimed responsibility for hundreds of crimes and acts of terrorism, including arson, bombings, vandalism and harassment, causing more than $100 million in damage."

Bottom line ... screw 'em; I'm not now, nor ever will be a member.  Snort.

Apples and Scotch in the Shower

This is what I was thinking about  in the shower this morning (unlike Raymond, I use my shower time for serious reflection).  Scotch and apple juice.

Yesterday, when I went to the Giant, I again picked up a bottle of "Simply Apple."  It cost $3.99.  This morning while I poured some I thought , WTF?  I can buy a gallon of the store brand for the same price, and it tastes just as good (I chug cold liquids, so taste is secondary). Why did I buy this again? There, on the counter, was the top from the last bottle.  I saved it.  I saved it!  Because, I thought at the time, to replace other bottle caps with it.  Why?  Because it's so damned ergonomically pleasing to open.  You don't twist it with a thumb and two girly fingers. You wrap your hand around its girthful elegance and undo. That led me to the Scotch.

In his book "From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor," Jerry Del Femina recounted how Chivas Regal became THE prestige Scotch whiskey in the U.S..  Chivas had been priced to compete with the Johnny Walker brand, but was not selling.  A new ad agency did two things.
  1. They commissioned the design of a distinctive new bottle.
  2. They doubled the price.
It became the the second best selling brand almost overnight, largely because of that bottle design, and snob appeal.  While this isn't a direct corollary to my apple juice, it doesn't have to be in my shower.

ASIDE I:  I am not a big Scotch drinker, but several of my friends are.  My BIL was, I suspected, a snob drinker.  I took an empty Chivas Bottle, and filled it with whatever was cheapest at the liquor store.  When he'd came over I asked,  "soda with your Scotch?"  He  looks at the bottle and feigns, "are you kidding me? Adulterate Chivas?  I'll have mine neat."  He takes a sip, and with eyes closed  goes, "Ahhhh - now that's Scotch."

ASIDE 2:  I notice that the Wikipedia entry for Del Femina states:

His 1971 book From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor was a best-seller. The title refers to a tongue-in cheek slogan proposed for the client Panasonic during a brainstorming session.

The story is much more delicious than that.  On his first morning at a new agency he was told he had a meeting with Panasonic in two hours, and needed something fast.   Not knowing a thing about Panasonic, other than they were a Japanese company selling televisions, he went to the art department and came up with something like this .  An hour later he unveiled the copy to  less than enthusiastic Panasonic executives.   But Del Femina became an icon in the business as the story was told, and retold over Madison Ave luncheon Martinis.  I loved that book, and it did have an affect on how I approached marketing.

Afterall, there has to be some joy during Christmas
