Yeah, I'll vote for Mitt.  I am disappointed though.  When was the last time we voted for a Republican for the promise of his ideas, and not the fear of  his opponent?  For me, 1980.  I feel like I'm being whipsawed; manipulated. *spit*  Okay, I'll say it.  I voted for Ron Paul last Tuesday.  Because he was the only man with a plan. I don't think he ever rode the AGW bandwagon either, which makes him smartest.

The Livermore Light Bulb

“

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The world's oldest light bulb has been burning for 111 years - so little wonder it has a fan club with thousands of members and its own website. The so-called 'Centennial Light' has been on almost constantly since 1901. It holds pride of place in Fire Station 6, in Livermore, northern California.

The longest time the Guinness World Record-holding bulb has ever been turned off for is just a week. Dangling above the fire engines, people come for hundreds and thousands of miles to see the diminutive symbol. The bulb was designed by Adolphe Chailet, who competed with the likes of the world-famous Thomas Edison to make the best bulb. [site]

I saw this on ACE a few weeks ago,  and it lit a light bulb.  And then, another one.

I have mentioned before that when I was a lad in Chicago you took your burned out light bulbs to Commonwealth Edison and got  free replacements. Years later I asked my dad about that during a reminiscence.  His explanation—  and he was never wrong about anything in his entire life, was that Com Edison's bulbs were made with extra heavy filaments, which served two purposes.  They seldom burned out, and they used twice as much electricity as bulbs we use today.  And  Com Edison was selling the juice. The free Gillette razor, you buy the blades gambit.  Looking up that reference led me to The Light Bulb Conspiracy – The Untold Story of Planned Obsolescence, which I haven't read, nor watched, but it looks like that other bulb I mentioned.

Coulter vs. Malkin: Female conservatives clash over Palin
NO
While I've  noticed some leftward drift from Ann Coulter, I will for now side with the argument that Michelle Malkin (whom I also love) is making a bit much her statement "that the eventual Republican candidate shouldn’t pick “a novelty candidate” as their vice presidential nominee because it “would ring too much like Sarah Palin.”  In fact, and without knowing about this kerfluffle, I had exactly the same thought when I saw that Romney had South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley on his "short list."  It would be exactly what some (ahem) would expect from Romney,  whose campaign ideology seems to be one of meeting perceived  expectations of a group he really doesn't understand.  Conservatives. The answer, Mitt, is John R. Bolton.

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The most interesting recent political phenomenon, after the Teaparty, was the emergence of the PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) movement in 2008.  These were hard (HARD) core Hillary supporters; stunned by what they (accurately) believed was the Democrat Party's betrayal of their goddess Hillary.  When the SIEU pulled off a massive voter fraud to give Obama a critical western primary win in Nevada, they flipped.

From my vantage point, everything they railed about were the very things we put up with the Clinton's Democrat Party.  Illegal fundraising; vote fraud; baldfaced lies, etc.  Still, I welcomed them, their fervor, and their knowledge of how the left operates.  I believed there were enough of them to deny Obama's election in November, alas.

My favorite of the PUMA blogger was Texas Darlin' (TD Blog).  When she and her blog archives disappeared after the election, I entertained the thought  that her efforts against Obama had allowed her to also see how filthy the Democrat Party, and by extension the Clintons, had always been, which epiphany caused her to commit ritual Seppukblog.  Too bad.  She was sharp as a tack.

So I wrote on Tuesday,  November 02, 2010.  When I say disappeared, I mean bulldozer-leveled. Her archives, containing some of the best insights, documents and sleuthing went up in smoke. Not even  Google cache could produce an archived word.  Very strange.  Here today, erased from history in a heartbeat.  That light bulb lit last night when I read this:

“ .Michele Thomas, a professional photographer in Hollywood, told WND in an exclusive interview that her resistance to the Obama campaign made her a target of intimidation.

“I have received death threats from Obama’s people,” she said. “I think I was called a ‘racist’ a thousand times. If you didn’t stand for Obama, you were a racist. It was a way to intimidate you.”

[...]

Res Ipsa Loquitur
Thomas’ charges were affirmed by a Hollywood producer who spoke to WND, Bettina Viviano, who claims that it was a common belief inside Hillary Clinton’s campaign that Obama was not eligible to be president and that she heard Bill Clinton say it in a telephone conference call.

[...]

What she witnessed while volunteering for Hillary in the Nevada Democratic Party caucuses eventually turned her into an activist.

“The Obama campaign people were stealing the caucuses – throwing away votes, intimidating people from entering the caucus locations,” she said. “It was very systematic. The Obama supporters got control over the caucus packages and they manipulated the vote.”

She said she was astounded that the media was not interested in covering the alleged abuses.

“Everyone knew the Obama people were stealing the election,” she charged.  .... [Horror stories]
”

Now, I have more than once had my own finger on a Kevorkian style Blogicide button, so that could explain TD's action.  Just fed up with the whole deal.  She did, evidently, make a brief reappearance, so I don't make too much of it, at least in the context of Obamunist thuggery charges.  We know with certainty that threats and intimidation are his style. We knew at the time that SEIU engineered his crucial Nevada primary win over Hillary in 2008.  We know that SEIU have emerged as his "Brown Shirts."

(Pop-up thought - Hitler had his ancestral home leveled after taking power.  Destroying all traces of his ancestry)

Imagine for a minute that your phone rang, and you were threatened ... your family threatened?  That's how easy it is to silence a nation when nobody dares, or wants to put a stop to it.

Disclaimer:  I believe Obama is a very bad man.  I think he's worse than Hitler,  who at least loved the country  he ruled over.

Seeds and Hammer times

Not all nostalgia is happy nostalgia

“
I used to maintain a blog called "Seeds and Hammers*."  It was during a time when this blogspot (C&S) was under attack, and meant to be a parallel blog escape hatch when I was shut down.   Linda SOG did the programming (I sent her a check for $20,000 but she never cashed it), and I was off and running.  Like most of my projects, I soon tired of it. Anyway—  Juice just e-mailed me.  In her  search for my famous rub recipe (which I reposted in comments here), she came across this bit of Juice nostalgia.  Just below that  is a post titled—

They're Smug, Smarmy, and Everywhere
And people will hate them

What recommends this  (evidently the spell checker had not been inveneed yet) post to you is the inclusion of the audio from a caller to Rush

“ This program caller to Rush yesterday is another on my list of reasons Democrats will alienate most of America this year (2008-ahem) ,  causing Democrats  biggest political defeat since 1980.  Listen to yesterday's call from "Robert from New Jersey."  You will almost certainly find yourself associating Robert with someone in your life; these supercilious asses are that abundant.  USA-UAS-USA!  ”

So much for my prognostications. However, two posts down from this (By Their Turds Ye Shall Know Them) I address some reasons for my miscalculation.

* To accommodate the new blog I purchased a new Domain.  I was actually startled when my request for USA USA USA was accepted.  Later I discovered why.  I had inadvertently requested USA-UAS-USA.  The source of much derision and jokery, mostly from the SondraKs.

Coke caves in face of Democratic boycott threat

“

Res Ipsa Loquitur

Democratic officials Wednesday launched a two-pronged attack on states with new laws requiring identification before voting, the highlight being a call to boycott Coke, Walmart and others that back a leading organization pushing for voter ID laws.

Coke was quick to react to the political boycott threat, pulling support from the targeted group just five hours after it was called. [You can't handle the truth; Democrats live by voter fraud]

I lost my will to Blog  after seeing this story yesterday. I watched 5 Sherlocks in a row.  Yes,  I do have a guy in my chariot who whispers in my ear "do not rise above your natural limit of cockiness.  Remember, you once had a boner for Jane Fonda," but still. How can I not feel superior in every way to anyone (anyone!) who votes for democrats?  Because, either they are so recklessly tuned out of hearing anything that screams "The Democrat Party is and evil entity;" or they don't care.  So. I am the better person. Yet, I have to live under the rule of these noxious people. Does this make me a bad person?  And fuck Coke.

Sherlock Holmes

Rodge:  I've noticed that you always maintain an even keel, even while documenting the daily doings of that ratbastardmfcsObama and his ratbastardmfcstreasonous media allies?  How do you stay so cool, and sane? [Daily E-mail questions asking the same thing]

My "trick" is by now well known to the aficionado.
  1. Watch very little Hollywood (that includes nightly news).
  2. Watch all Brit, or foreign language films on NetFlix instant
I know what you're saying,

"but Rodge, British actors are liberal asshats the same as 'merican."

Prolly  more so.  But, I don't know it.  I have no  trouble suspending disbelief,  because I have no idea of  Brit actor politics - except the Top Gear crew (would be staunch teapartiers in the US). I know what you're saying,

"but Rodge, what is it you're watching now that allows you to escape the voices that demand that you nuke Washing DC, California and Maryland?"

I'm glad you asked, because I stumbled upon the most delightfully fun series called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.  Specifically the BBC series that ran for four years, so there are 37 episodes.  I wish there were 200 more.  It took me a few episodes to decide I liked it, but after 6 or seven I was hooked.  Viewer reviews on IMBD called it "One of the very best television series ever made."  I agree.

“
Full Episode

”

By the by, since I liked this series, NetFlix is forever suggesting other Sherlock stuff, including  1971's  They Might Be Giants.  Ever heard of it?  Me neither.

“ .Retired judge Justin Playfair (George C. Scott) has a most peculiar eccentricity: He believes he's Sherlock Holmes. Betrayed by his scheming brother and placed under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Mildred Watson (Joanne Woodward), "Holmes" searches Manhattan for his elusive nemesis, Moriarty. Life mirrors fiction as the pair are drawn into a world of danger and intrigue -- and an unlikely love.

Cast:
George C. Scott, Joanne Woodward, Jack Gilford, Rue McClanahan, Oliver Clark, Theresa Merritt, Lester Rawlins, Ron Weyand
”

Joanne Woodward and George C. Scott hardly make me think comedy.  Sometimes while watching (I've been watching in bits and pieces for a week) I wonder that it actually is one.  Bada-Bing!   So, there is a reason then why I hadn't heard of it.  It is sort of fun for the kitsch— .  Only movie where Joanne Woodward gave me a semi.  I give it

Over the years ... many, many years, I've noted and commented on Nixon's resignation.  Anyone paying attention— to what subsequent Democrat presidents did without a murmur of protest, should recognize it as the  Bloodless Coup it was (how many people know about Hillary Clinton's role?). If an Obama can be insinuated into the White House, how impossible does it now seem that the subsequent leftist control of congress was a planned event, with Nixon's "crime" the springboard?  I'm just saying. With Nixon's OMFG scandal came the gusher of leftists  (see watergate babies) who changed, and continue to change the fabric of American culture.  Now this .

Uncle Obama on the roads again

Res Ipsa Loquitur

Just a week after he copped a plea in a drunken-driving rap, President Obama’s illegal-alien uncle has landed a hardship driver’s license from the Registry of Motor Vehicles, making it perfectly legal for him to drive in Massachusetts — even though the feds say he doesn’t belong here.

Onyango Obama, 67, who lost his regular license for 45 days last week, scored his limited license yesterday from the Registry’s Wilmington branch, after convincing a hearing officer that life without wheels would have posed an undue hardship on his livelihood as a liquor-store manager. Obama bolstered his case with a letter from his employer, Conti Liquors, as well as proof that he’d enrolled in an alcohol-treatment program.

“He met all of the criteria,” RMV spokeswoman Sara Lavoie said. [Boston Herald]

Where did Van Jones suddenly come from. Has anyone else noticed that Van Jones seems to have suddenly emerged in the media as an Obama campaign operative? He was relegated to relative obscurity when Glenn Beck outed him as an unrepentant Marxist agitator. He suddenly "resigned" his position as White House green energy czar and we didn't hear a whole lot from him. Yes, he was occasionally in the news. But in just the last week or so, he seems to be everywhere, all the time in the news media, commenting and being quoted on key presidential campaign issues. He was on the Stephanopolous show on Sunday, commenting on the SCOTUS Obamacare issues on equal footing with George Will.

If I am perceiving this correctly, I'd like to know, how did he suddenly re-gain legitimacy? Who is he working for?  [Full post from a dude called JewishRighter]

Lest you think JR'a charges specious, or hyperbole:

“ .Former Obama administration green jobs czar Van Jones said Saturday the Occupy Wall Street movement essentially “saved the entire country from destruction.”

Jones made the comments in Los Angeles ahead of his appearance at an “All in for the 99%” training event, saying Occupy “disrupted the narrative” as both parties “barreling toward more austerity.”

“[The] Occupy movement pretty much saved the entire country from destruction,” Jones said in an interview posted online. “Both political parties were barreling toward more austerity, more cutbacks, more pain for the people and more — basically both political parties had managed to converge on this idea of basically no rules for the rich, no rights for the poor, no middle class to speak of. That was basically the agenda, the question was just how much pain how fast.”

“Occupy Wall Street came on and completely disrupted the narrative,” he said. All the ‘austerity, austerity, cut, cut, cut’ stuff went away and suddenly even Republicans had to talk about income inequality and that whole theme.  [Blaze  April 2012]
