Gun Makers Fight Back

"Wilson Combat will no longer provide any products or services to any State Government ... ."

Gun Control Bill Nears Approval

After a week of House of Delagate hearings, where the opposition have turned out in staggering
numbers- we're talking 40 to 1 ratios- here's how Martin O'Malley presents it on his blog.* Res Ipsa Loquitor

"Wilson Combat will no longer provide any products or services to any State Government imposing legislation that infringes on the second amendment rights of its law abiding citizens. This includes any Law Enforcement Department, Law Enforcement Officers, or any State Government Entity or Employee of such an entity. This also applies to any local municipality imposing such infringements."

Wilson lists the states included on its no sale policy as: California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C. and The City of Chicago, Illinois.

Wilson is one of  118.companies (currently) participating in what has been named the "Firearms Equality Movement,"  These firearm companies have suspended the sale of guns to states, counties, cities and municipalities that restrict their citizens' rights to own them.  This is the spirit of the America we, all of us, knew before, say, 1992.

But wait.  I know the governors (and mayor) of those governments, and so do you.  Let me tell you what Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley is thinking.  As Obama's surrogate in the National Governor's Conference, and always (I said always) the first Governor to endorse any Obama initiative, we know that he's been on the horn about this.  In a nutshell, here's how he (and the rest) are thinking:  Declare the manufacturer's action a national security issue and nationalize them.  I guarantee you this is being tossed around, and everyone of them are of a mind to see this as entirely defensible.  Eric Holder is a master at saying, "who gives a rat's ass, just do it."

Tap tap tap.

*Here's the WaPost Poll he's ballyhooing. I will agree that 60% of Marylanders would approve reeducation camps if asked, but where is he getting "85% of Marylanders Support Handgun Licensing Requirement?"  That's s right- make it up.

OBAMUNISM, The Party,
Let Them Eat Cake - It's Free

Raja,

President Obama has stated, over the last year and a half, that “I believe that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, when everyone does their fair share, when everyone plays by the same rules.”

Res Ipsa LoquitorRadio talker Barry Farber pointed out that “everyone gets a fair shot" and "everyone does their fair share", is just a restatement of Karl Marx: "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

Some people need more than that to understand that President Obama is a communist. Well, try this on for size: You remember the Marxist means of negotiation, Dialectical Materialism. Thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis. Sounds very fair, though carried out to the lengths reds do, it means each time we have moved the center of the playing field, we look at it again, and sonofagun, we get more. Then we do it again, and we get more. Etc.

I can’t count how many times we have heard Obama call for a “balanced” approach to the economy, and how if the Republicans would just add some revenue, taxes, we would be fine. But then, at the fiscal cliff, the Republicans DID add taxes, and what happened? Immediately, through this very day, Obama calls for a balanced approach, and won’t the Republicans meet us half way by raising taxes? Again? Thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis. The dialectic never ends!

Just remember, to a communist, what's his is his. What's yours is negotiable.

Five Movies

   At The Cinema

FIVE

Here's five videos I watched last week that I thought had merit.

Sleepwalk With Me

I've heard Birbiglia's name before, but didn't know much about him. Now I do, and now I'm a fan. In this autobiographical tale based on director Mike Birbiglia's successful one-man show, an up-and-coming stand-up comedian deals with career and relationship issues while trying to ignore his outrageous sleepwalking habit.

This is a smartly done comedy about Mike trying to get established as a comedian, and hold on to his longtime girlfriend who wants to walk down the aisle.

PS - He actually suffers from the most dangerous kind of sleepwalking.
PPS - his girlfriend is in every way the most perfect woman anyone could want.  (Actually, she is MoSup).

John Pinette: I'm Starvin'

MoSup was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes.  I knew she would.

Gangster No. 1

This story follows the violent rise and fall of the title character, an unnamed East End London thug (played by Paul Bettany and, at a later age, Malcolm McDowell) who gets hired by high-profile gangster Freddie Mays (David Thewlis). The eager young gun -- an irredeemable, inhumane psychopath! obsessed with power -- eventually replaces his boss as top gangster by way of lies, manipulation and murder.

 This is the complete film

The Long Good Friday

Forget that this was made in 1980 - it's another Brit gangster film starring Bob Hoskins (Roger Rabbit( and Helen Mirren.

Bob Hoskins made his mark with a vivid portrayal of a London mob boss sweating the big deal designed to make him rich and legit. Suddenly, everything goes wrong when a series of bombs literally destroy his world. He escapes unharmed, but now faces the knowledge that someone wants him dead soon. A tough crime saga, The Long Good Friday paints a bleak portrait of a man caught up in forces beyond his control.

This is the complete film

Capote

When he was alive I looked at Truman Capote like I would a freak roadside accident. Still, I both read and saw the movie In Cold Blood, and thought both were brilliant (I have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's).

This film covers the 6 or so years he was writing the book.  Philip Seymour Hoffman nailed Capoteif he didn't win an Academy Award for this portrayal it can only mean he's a Republican.  One fascinating thing, his researcher and long time childhood friend friend "Nellie," was Nelle Harper Lee who had To Kill a Mockingbird published while she was helping Truman with Clod Blood.

PS -  I shared none of Capote's remorse when the trap door opened under Perry's feet, but I can understand how such an attachment can occur.
PPS - Capote had a running feud with Gore Vidal, a man I despised, so in that I saw Truman Capote as an ally.
This is the complete 2.09 movie

ROKU-Y ROAD AHEAD?

TECHNO THRILLS

WATCH WHATEVER WHENEVER
Res Ipsa Loquitor

I am, as you know, a big fan of ROKU (we have 3 in use). This announcement of their newest unit, however, made me wonder—will Roku be in business two years from now?  My son just bought a new "Smart" television that streams stuff the way ROKU, X-BOX and other devices do.  ROKU have bundled together a wide range of product (like Amazon, HULU, etc), but that's only a convenience, not an asset.  Still, there is a definite trend. Cable, satellite companies are losing record numbers of subscribers.  Some of this "cord-cutting" is due to the economy, but others, "cord-frayers," are people who just want to take control of what they watch (which is almost certainly what our current government would also like to do). I could do without Cable TV altogether, but Mo Sup (Mother Superior) NEEDS it.

All this means nothing of course, since after Baby Kim Twat Sung, or some like-minded terrorist like Obama, hits us with EMP, or an Executive Order, we'll be reading the Sears catalog in the outhouse for entertainment.  And it'll be a damned old Sears catalog at that..

Hasselback Potatoes

HASSELBACK POTATOES

The amazing thing is that a (T.V.) graduate of the C.I.A. (me) has gone this long without hearing about Hasselback potatoes.  I want to have a dinner party just to show off my inventiveness (that's how I do it).  Looks much easier than that damned Flowering Onion deal I spent money for the machine on but it never ever was like I got in the restaurant.  Plus, the other neat idea that I should have already invented was placing that potato (or anything else) between two cutting boards to keep from going all the way through, while making uniformly deep cuts.  You're welcome.

From the wonderful science that brought you Al Gore's Man Caused Global Cooling Warming science.  This is not the first time in recent years that local schools, and most
" Gore told NBC's Katie Couric sea levels would rise 20 feet or more worldwide by 2010, the polar ice caps would melt and the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa will become deserts if nothing is done. "
meetings, functions, and activity were canceled a full day before an impending Mother of All Snow Storms.  Just the latest.

It used to be us kids would huddle around the radio, listening for news that our school had be "closed."  Because we woke up that morning under a blanket of snow.  Not today.  Cancel early so we can sleep-in is the  current school closing Zeitgeist. But that's not what this is about.  It's another example of  how we are willing to cripple our already crippled economy,. and freedoms, because of man caused climate change warnings from the very people whose science can't  forecast nest day's weather.  Stop me if I've said this before.
