Top Physicist Bolts from AGW ....

            Global Warming Crap

Freeman Dyson is a 91-year-old theoretical physicist who was a contemporary of Einstein at Princeton, has received multiple international awards for his scientific efforts, and has published numerous books and papers on a wide range of topics.

“That is to me the central mystery of climate science. It is not a scientific mystery but a human mystery. How does it happen that a whole generation of scientific experts is blind to obvious facts? ... I’m 100 per cent Democrat myself, and I like Obama. But he took the wrong side on this issue, and the Republicans took the right side.”
Dyson is criticizing scientists who advance what he describes as an ‘agenda-driven’ perspective on global warming.
In an interview with The Register, Dyson responded to questions about the forward he just wrote for a scientific paper that confronts the “overrated” concerns about CO2 in the atmosphere:

“That is to me the central mystery of climate science. It is not a scientific mystery but a human mystery. How does it happen that a whole generation of scientific experts is blind to obvious facts?”

Dyson, who describes himself as 100% Democrat, strongly disagreed with President Obama:

“It’s very sad that in this country, political opinion parted [people’s views on climate change]. I’m 100 per cent Democrat myself, and I like Obama. But he took the wrong side on this issue, and the Republicans took the right side.”

Part of the issue, according to the interview and the CO2 paper, is that the scientific models that have been used to predict climate outcomes have been wrong:

“What has happened in the past 10 years is that the discrepancies between what’s observed and what’s predicted have become much stronger. It’s clear now the models are wrong, but it wasn’t so clear 10 years ago. I can’t say if they’ll always be wrong, but the observations are improving and so the models are becoming more verifiable.”

For example, NASA has admitted that it is unable to explain a 17-year hiatus in an average global temperature increase, which has led to 95% of manmade global warming projections being false.
Explaining why this refusal of scientists to adjust their opinions when confronted with facts that seemingly refute their manmade global warming hypothesis, Dyson gives a couple of reasons.

He suggests that there has been a confusion between “pollution,” something definitely man-made and solvable, and “climate change,” a feature of nature and mostly beyond the control of humanity.
Furthermore, he also asserts that there’s not only a “large community of people who make their money by scaring the public,” but an element of groupthink at play, as well:

“Real advances in science require a different cultural tradition, with individuals who invent new tools to explore nature and are not afraid to question authority. Science driven by rebels and heretics searching for truth has made great progress in the last three centuries. But the new culture of scientific scepticism is a recent growth and has not yet penetrated deeply into our thinking. The old culture of group loyalty and dogmatic belief is still alive under the surface, guiding the thoughts of scientists as well as the opinions of ordinary citizens.”

Dyson concluded with an assertion and an appeal to dispassionately evaluating facts:

“Climatic effects observed in the real world are much less damaging than the effects predicted by the climate models, and have also been frequently beneficial. I am hoping that the scientists and politicians who have been blindly demonizing carbon dioxide for 37 years will one day open their eyes and look at the evidence.”

If anything, Dyson’s disputation of manmade global warming just adds to the list of scientific voices who are bucking the received “consensus” on temperatures.

  (cuzzin ricky)

At 91-years of age, the very idea that " a whole generation a fair percentage of climate science academia" could be corrupted—as they so utterly have been—by the lure of (Liberal) government grant money (with their acquiescence hinging on it), is too new school for Mr. Dyson to contemplate. Hell, I still have a hard time getting used to it.

* No, Mr. Dyson, Obama is backing his group's side of the AGW gambit.

Drone Hijacking!

 THRILLS

DroneDefender:
New Rifle that Shoots Drones Out of the Sky Without Firing a Single Bullet

Due to U.S. Federal regulations, this is a simulation of our DroneDefender. It has, though, been successfully tested in field trials.

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

(assorted comments)
  • That's no fun to watch it slowly land. We want it to blow up in the air.

  • The FAA continues to consider drones and quadrotors to be 'aircraft' and as such deliberately downing one is generally frowned upon, whether that's through electromagnetic or lead-induced failure.

  • Drones are great, but not when someone is doing something bad with one, like dropping contraband into a prison or flying into restricted airspace. We've got an answer.

  • You have just as much right to send an electronic signal on a public band as the person who is operating the drone. The fact that your signal might interfere with theirs is just their poor luck. As long as it's within a public band, then no laws are broken. It would be the same if they were using a walkie and your radio interfered with theirs.

  •  Not sure what part of CFR 93 you're referring to as it primarily deals with airport comms and operations. None of the drones I've seen would step on those frequencies.

  • FCC Part 97 deals with licensed amateur station operators, commonly referred to as 'ham' radios. None of the commonly available drones (ie: purchased off the shelf) operate in licensed private bands.

  • Almost all of the drones sold today are using the same bands as other common RC items (model planes, cars, etc). There is no law that I've seen which would prevent someone from using these same unlicensed frequencies. So again... you have the same rights as the drone operator does to use those frequencies. They are public, NOT private.
It appears the device doesn't so much "shoot" the drone down as hijack it!  Wow. collect them all!  IMO, drones are another instance where technology offers compelling consumer gadgetry; but  gives a rogue gummint another weapon to subdue dissension. In case we ever have such a gummint.  Ahem. So, protect our freedom;  shoot them all down. That's what T.J. would recommend.

Aside:  I bet there's a way to electronically destroy spy cams with leaving any fingerprints.  Booo-Ya!

The Internet Bibles

  SAY AMEN

HOW THE INTERNET STARTED, ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE. . . PLEASE DO NOT GOOGLE THIS ONE OR CHECK WITH SNOPES.  THEY WILL LIE TO YOU. TRUST ME!

In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a healthy young wife by the name of Dorothy.

And Dot Com was a comely woman, large of breast, broad of shoulder and long of leg.  Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com.

And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?"

And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?"

And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price.  The sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)."

Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums.

And the drums rang out and were an immediate success.  Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent.

To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew.  It was known as Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures - Hebrew to The People (HTTP).

And the young men did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung.  They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS.

And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land.  Indeed he did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks.
And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others."

And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or eBay as it came to be known.  He said, "We need a name that reflects what we are."

And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators."  "YAHOO," said Abraham.  And because it was Dot's idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com.

Abraham's cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot's drums to locate things around the countryside.

It soon became known as God's Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE).
That is how it all began. And that's the truth.

I wouldn't make up this stuff.

Spurrier on Auburn

A fire at Auburn Univ. library reportedly destroyed 20 books. This morning on ESPN, Steve Spurrier,  just resigned as FB head coach at South Carolina, offered that real tragedy was that 15 of them had not yet been colored.

....culture goes right?

"This generation is frightened of ideas." Matt Drudge.
... then there's this

The progressive establishment has a problem. The hunger for non-conformist thought and opinion is raging. Contrarianism is becoming cool once again.

UNT! UNT! UNT!

UNT Mug

When I was a kid a big joke was the Sam Houston Institute of Technology, or S.H.I.T.  Hardee-Har-Har.  The problem was, sigh, there is no such school,  so when cuzzin ricky ("... would make a great mug for the Clinton campaign!") sent me this UNT mug I figgered it was more bogus acronym.  But no!  There is a UNT! Just off the top of my head I can think of several people I'd like to send this mug to ( Around $14 at Amazon).

French's French Fries

                                                           FOOD
STUFF I SORT OF INVENTED

Having recently celebrated the wonderfulness of Marie's Blue Cheese dressing, I thought it a good time to double down.  Specifically, French's French Fried Onions!  They're  just as versatile, and I'm hard pressed to think of anything I wouldn't sprinkle them on.  Hot dogs, burgers, pizza, salads, veggies, potatoes, eggs, popcorn;  on and on.  Since you'll be using them 5-6 times a day, make sure you buy the 24 oz. bag.  I buy them at BJ's for about $7, and quite often there's a $2 off coupon and I stock up because the Giant store sells a tiny bag (about 3-4 oz?) for $3.69!  And here's another upside.  You don't have to buy onions anymore!

You're welcome.

DRUDGE ATTACK!

Hitler's Mustache

This story from yesterday cut through my by now calloused outrage receptors and had me running around the house waving a .45 in one hand, an iron skillet in the other and speaking in tongues!  There have been no internet sites more feared by netroots, ratbastard Libtards—Hell, liars and wrongdoers everywhere— than Matt Drudge.  Without him it's doubtful that Bill Clinton's record of sexual abuse that let to his impeachment would have seen the light of day. These opening comments, led by
DAVIS JOHNSON, on the Daily Caller story, rather succinctly say it all.

Davis Johnson • 2 days ago

Why would they want to get rid of aggregators? News sites would loose all the inbound traffic and earnings from ads. Does not make any sense.

Gino Schafer  Davis Johnson • 2 days ago
Because the most popular aggregator sites are conservative!

Davis Johnson  Gino Schafer • 2 days ago
It would also DESTROY Google which is built around links.

Not true Buzzfeed is libtard!

Davis Johnson • 2 days ago

The sites that create traffic, via links, such as drudge, may be affected, because it's not sponsored (okayed) by government media conglomerates, and it would lower the IQ of the population further, because of their ability to seize and rewrite copyright laws. Google is safe, because it is in bed with the government, and has persons interested in sharing business opportunities, such as NSA metadata. Drudge is a 'threat' because he does not work with/ for government, doesn't have add space, and doesn't skew the agenda for government policy. In the last 24 hours, drudge has had over 23 million visitors. Without drudge, mainstream media would need government assistance from lack of traffic, which would turn media further to the dark side. Sorry to write a book, thought it would help explain.

Adam  1bluebugg • 2 days ago
Quite right. The name of the game is control. Was it Orwell who wrote that "who controls the past controls the future and who controls the present controls the past"?

Susan  Adam • 2 days ago
The true enemy of American is this corrupt government. Can you imagine a Supreme Court Justice saying that to Drudge. The very epicenter of this corrupt government is the court system/judges including the supremely corrupt Supreme Court

Itsover2016  Susan • a day ago

We must elect people who will impeach the supreme court and all those who make laws without congress.

Enough said.

Immigrnts (legal) and Cobblers

cinema à la carte

2 movies I had seen earlier warrented a second viewing because I knew MoSup would love them.  She did.

First; if I only had access to one cable channel, it's Smithsonian.  For example, I just watched a Mighty Ships episode (S2E5) "USS NIMITZ" I've seen other profiles of the Nimitz, but this has depth the others lack.  It also triggered a massive flow of endorphins.  The lineup is great, the photography often breathtaking, and the direction perfect. Now, 2 movies.

The Immigrant.

Academy Award®-winner Marion Cotillard stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner in this gripping story of a fractured American dream. When Ewa  and her sister Magda  arrive at Ellis Island, doctors discover that Magda is ill and must be quarantined. Ewa is released onto the mean streets of Manhattan alone, where she quickly falls prey to Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix), a charming but wicked man who takes her in and forces her into prostitution. Just as Ewa thinks all hope is lost, debonair magician Orlando arrives and sweeps her off her feet. Though the two men are cousins, Orlando may be Ewa's only chance to escape the nightmare of Bruno's brutality.

Ewa reminds me of my wife (also of Polish extraction).  My maternal grandparents also came in through Ellis Island, and there are details here that  were new to me. Like, Caruso Caruso was, as portrayed, among the entertainers who entertained  immigants who were "on hold" status, and were likely eventually deported.  I gave it 5 Stars. Netflix and Amazon.

The Cobbler.

Max Simkin repairs shoes in the same New York shop that has been in his family for generations. Disenchanted with the grind of daily life, Max stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way. Sometimes walking in another man's shoes is the only way one can discover who they really are.
, Dustin Hoffman
The Cobbler was so good that I also sat through that for a second time while MoSup watched it.  She loved it too.   yard?  5 Stars.
But, WAIT!

The Cobbler (2015) - Rotten Tomatoes

www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_cobbler_2015/

Rotten Tomatoes
 Rating: 9% - ‎57 votes
Critics Consensus: The Cobbler represents a slight step up from
Adam Sandler's recent comedies, but while its cloying sentiment proves a more palatable ...

"Cloying sentiment," or "excessive? sweetness" are pretty much hallmarks for all Sandler movies.  My son Huck had, for years, recommended every Sandler movie that came along.  I'd watch them and think, meh, okay.  But over time I realized that I was always left with a feel-good, positive outlook on our society after watching them. Sandler, whose SNL persona as the singing Italian dude left me cold, is probably a good person in real life.  And I enjoy his movies. No mean feat, that.

Anyway, I also enjoyed Sandler's "CLICK," and just now noticed that Rotten Tomatoes killed that too, with 1½ Rotten Tomtoes.  I gave it 4 stars.  How in the hell have our taste in movies strayed this far out the barn?  Lotta ratbastards out there I guess.

Will progressives flee to web TV?

Who cares what a bunch of dead white men thought?
Will progressives flee to web TV if MSNBC bails on them?

Personally, I think it’s too early to start shopping for headstones for MSNBC’s liberal opinion lineup, but there’s no doubt that there are big changes going on at the network. Morning Joe seems in no danger of going away and Rachel Maddow is hanging on to the 9 pm time slot like grim death, but many of their other shows are either gone, moved to the low rent district or being looked at by
But while we’re on the topic, if you’re advertising the wonders of Al Jazeera America and Russia Today as “more or less progressive TV news” then it might be time to take a fresh look at exactly which team you’re playing for.
executives with axes in their hands. Ronan Farrow, Joy Reid, The Cycle and Ed Schultz have effectively vanished. Alex Wagner moved to the weekends and Al Sharpton (who the executives are terrified of firing entirely for fear of lawsuits and protest marches) has been shuttled off to an hour on Sunday mornings when nobody is watching. Despite persistent rumors of his impending doom, Chris Hayes is still doing an evening show but that seems to be a week by week decision.

But if progressives are the “mainstream” of the new generation as they always claim, and MSNBC is really the only bastion for them in terms of finding consistently liberal programming, what went so wrong? Leslie Savan, writing at The Nation, seems despondent over the changes but hazards a guess at one reason why things didn’t work out. The content was just boring pablum.

[...]

over the last several years, a whole world of more or less progressive TV news has emerged—streaming, on demand, on mobile, and, increasingly, on cable TV itself. Vice News, Fusion, and Free Speech TV are available on cable and satellite, as are Al Jazeera America and Russia Today.

As for web TV, HuffPost Live now streams eight hours of original programming a day.

[FULL]

Web TV sounds an awful lot like Air America, the shady "progressive"  answer to Rush Limbaugh.  That used the specter of the Fairness Doctrine, where broadcast licenses hinged on broadcasters presenting both sides of controversial issues.  As much as we laugh at the antics of MSNBC, which is a national joke, there is a larger threat.  Social media have already facilitated  an  insular herd mentality, where exchange of ideas are .... nil.  How can you debate when one side is  from another planet; with their own history books, newspapers and classroom instruction?  How many of you have presented an argument only to  have it rebutted with some MSNBC or Daily Show "truth?"  Gird your loins people, conflict is inevitable.
