What happened to Global Warming

How Convenient for me

Why the GOP is so sorry-ass

Jeb to GOP: How to Appeal to Hispanics
Me to Jeb: Stop That Crap Now Dammit!

Everyone in the country by now knows about Teddy Roosevelt's Hyphenated American thing and go all blah-blahy over it;  but then keep doing it anyway. When you set out to appeal to ethnics, you give voice to the worst of them.  If Hispanics are here legally, have the courtesy to treat them the same as everyone else, without distinction.  If they're here illegally, do the lawful thing and expel them.  Sheesh.

Global Warming (Laugh) Hysteria

Global Warming:
Dire Prediction for the Year 3000

This is what I'm talking about.  The left will simply not let go of a project no matter how discredited it's become.  I remember Al Gore warning that "unless we act this year, and even that may be too late, we're doomed."  But the good news is, school districts, even whole countries have banned Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth from being shown to students.  The people behind selling AGW tried to change from Global Warming to Communities for Change - Whoops,  I mean Climate Change, without, it appears, much success. When either phrase is spoken today at any rate, this is what most people hear:

Am I right?  Anyway, it's Saturday, and with leisure time up the ying-yang, a good time to enjoy this Penn & Teller flashback. (NSFW Language)

You're welcome.

Two Californias

Regarding your STFU Berkeley musings in C&S today;
TWO CALIFORNIAS
Example of Two Californias

Cuzzin Rick
Here are some general observations about what I saw (other than that the rural roads of California are fast turning into rubble, poorly maintained and reverting to what I remember seeing long ago in the rural South). First, remember that these areas are the ground zero, so to speak, of 20 years of illegal immigration. There has been a general depression in farming - to such an extent that the 20- to-100-acre tree and vine farmer, the erstwhile backbone of the old rural California, for all practical purposes has ceased to exist. Don't Be a Dick

You know, in a rather disturbing
way, this makes a lot of sense.
Kim du Toit

My New Year's resolution for 2011 was a simple one: Don't Be a Dick.

This philosophy seemed to strike a chord with others, and with one thing leading to another, I have accidentally started a new religion.

The Holy Church of Don't Be a Dick.

Old Photochop I don't understand today
I see a conflict with my creed: "There are two types of people.  Them what know they're assholes, and them what don't.

Union Threats

Unions order Feds to sue states
The National Labor Relations Board on Friday threatened to sue Arizona, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah over constitutional amendments guaranteeing workers the right to a secret ballot in union elections.

The agency's acting general counsel, Lafe Solomon, said the amendments conflict with federal law, which gives employers the option of recognizing a union if a majority of workers sign cards that support unionizing. [Huh?]

''That's What's The Matter,'' Harper's Weekly, 1871

What am I missing here?
  1. Four states pass law that guarantee workers the right to the secret ballot when voting to unionize their shop.
  2. Unions argue that workers should have the right to vote to unionize their shop.
Of course, this is really about the union thug "Card Check" law, that not even the 111th  Democrat super-majority controlled congress was able to pass, that would have outlawed the secret ballot in union organizing votes. If they couldn't get it passed with that bunch, what on earth makes them think the 112th congress, which is demanding that new law cite from whence constitutional authority is derived, will now pass?

The only thing I can think of is unions want this NLRB ruling so they can later cite it as "Even the NLRB ruled that Card Check was legal."  All of which summons this memory.

I'm 15 years old  and want an after school job at the local A&P.  My friend Gary stocks the frozen food cabinets there,  and regales me with stories about what what a great job it is.  He always has money too.

Me mum drives me to the A&P employment office on York Road (Baltimore), where I take and pass a test that confirms my ability to count to twenty without removing any shoes.  The lady takes my Social Security info, records that my preferred assignment is the local A&P, and everything is a go.  "We'll just need you to sign this," she says.  "What is it," I ask?

"It's authorization to have union dues deducted from your pay"
"I'll pass"
"You can't 'pass,' it's mandatory."
"Huh? I don't want to join a union."
"It's mandatory."
(I notice the big hairy wart on her chin) "What?"
"Union membership is mandatory."
"Says who?"
"Maryland is not a Right to Work state.  It's mandatory."
"I'm not joining any union."
"Then you won't be working for A&P (rips application in half).  I notice another hairy wart on her large crooked nose."

On the way home, mumsy, who witnessed the exchange, asked, "Where did all that come from?"  I didn't know specifically, but it conflicted with everything I had learned about being a United States citizen to that point in my life.  It still does.

Manson targets Palin

Verging Here Boss
Enrage them with fear until they
feel justified in their violence.
” - Neo-Mansons
On his Monday radio broadcast, media personality Glenn Beck read from an e-mail he wrote to Palin in which he urged the former Republican presidential candidate to protect herself and invest in more security. “An attempt on you could bring the Republic down.”

San Francisco hate Palin posters
Despite President Obama's speech about healing, shared responsibility and shared pain, conservative pundit Sarah Palin is plastered, unflatteringly, along one San Francisco street (so far).

The posters -- found and published by SFist.com -- espouse "Enrage them with fear until they feel justified in their violence." [different story]

In the past Ive reflected on what the flash-point will be that sends us into full scale civil mayhem.  One event I suggested was  an *ahem* "attack" on Rush Limbaugh, although it will likely be something much more mudane. A straw will do it.  And now,  there's this:

Things are suck as it is.  New Jersey democrats want to tax bicycles. A million homes were foreclosed on by banks last year.  Inflation is rising; pensions are disappearing.  State and federal tax collectors are in full predator mode.  I look at the response democrats have to all this and wonder if I'm still sane.  It's as if Charles Manson has sent his minions forth to create Helter-Skelter.  An attack on Sarah Palin could likely break the nation in two (which we are already, but there's been no blood sport so far). Please. Let's get the divorce proceedings begun so we can get on with our lives in one piece. And -  be able to wear uniforms so we know which side we're killing.

JC PENNY 1977

The JC PENNY CHRONICLES
Last weekend I put an exhaust fan in the ceiling for my wife's grandfather. After a bunch of hours spent in The Hottest Attic In The Universe, he had a ceiling fan that ducted to the side of his house.

While my brother-in-law and I were fitting the fan in between the joists, we found something under the insulation. What we found was this:

Wellstone II

Props to Boehner

Funeral For Wellstone II

Speaker Boehner is being criticized by the twig eatin', tofu fartin', lily livered, Prius driving, America-hating, bleeding heart liberal, blinkered, Starbucks drinking, elitist, can't-we-all-just-get-along, granola eating, namby-pamby, Birkenstock wearing, tree hugging, long haired, pansy-assed, kumbaya-singing, Earth First, bed-wetting, patchouli wearing, dirty, smelly, dope smoking, bongo playing, arm pit haired women and feminized, armpit shaved men crying "Mother Earth is Gaia," tortured "artiste" types, Kennedy DNA bearing slugs,* a.k.a. Democrats,  for not attending Arizona massacre services.

I thought I was being ahead of the curve by seeing this Democrat political celebration as yet another funeral service turned political rally by Democrats.   Until I Googled Wellstone funeral services political,  and discovered the otherwise. I'm glad.

The Vilmar quote

Balls Out: Gary The Tennis Coach

Balls Out: Gary The Tennis Coach:

The "crappy team-new coach-miracle game" movie formula (was there any better than Hoosiers?) is one we're all familiar with, oui?  BALLS OUT is in that genre.  I think we can agree that one's mood going in will have some effect on the movie experience, and my mood last night when I watched Gary  the Tennis Coach was very much balls-out (mo Sup is out of town).

I enjoyed this movie enormously.  You might too.  There's some scant nipplery, and outrageously filthy language involved, but I don't think this movie works without it.  Srsly. I gave it 4 stars.  That will in some eyes reflect badly on my ability to judge quality; to them, I give it 5 stars. Have fun.

Note:  I watched it on NetFlix Instant, which is almost the best thing in the world.  If  English subtitles were available (my hearing), it would rank with macadamia nuts, pizza, Terps basketball, my grandchildren, and something else I forget,  on the Joie de vivre scale.  You're welcome.
