The annotations are significant, but even more so is the geometry through which they're depicted: an expanding sphere of State control, first over our necessities, then over our discretionary activities, and ultimately over the whole of human existence. At each stage, the State's coercive powers are amplified by the importance and scope of the resources it appropriated in the previous stage, such that individuals and voluntary organizations steadily lose all power to resist its further expansion. The Blob wouldn't have had a chance against the State. I can add only a single observation to this depiction: As the State swells, it ceases to perform any of its functions even marginally well. Indeed, the first functions it will slough are the ones for which we originally agreed to tolerate a pre-indemnified coercive authority: national defense, police protection, and the administration of impartial justice. In the terminal stage of its expansion, when it lays claim to all things and no one outside its corridors may do anything without first asking its permission and paying its price, the State's sole concern becomes the maintenance of its power and the perquisites of its nomenklatura. The student, Terri Bennett, 50, initially complained in April to school officials because she said the Spanish-dominated discussions in her class room were preventing her from learning, Townhall reported. The college nursing program director, David Kutzler, then allegedly called her “a bigot” and an expletive, and suspended her. Feds to Map Every Neighborhood in Effort to 'Eliminate Segregation'... ^ “ I know.  I've claimed to have became sufficiently inured to the Obama regime's daily violations of our freedoms, constitutional guarantees, and peace of mind,  that nothing more can surprise me.  Then, each new day they make me the liar.  What in the hell is this about?  To ensure that "every American is able to choose to live in a community they feel proud of," HUD has published a new fair-housing regulation intended to give people access to better neighborhoods than the ones they currently live in. Donovan said HUD's new neighborhood mapping tool, which uses Census data, will "expand access to high opportunity neighborhoods and draw attention to investment possibilities in under-served communities." My immediate reaction was that Obama, anxious to stop daily headlines about multiple murders in hometown  Chicago's Black neighborhoods, wants the gangs moved into crime free neighborhoods, across the nation.  What else?  Does anyone here know of a place in the United States where impediments, other than the ability to pay for food and shelter,  are in place?  No?  Then what's this about?  More race pandering?  And what a cruelty to include Asians and Latinos in the mix. These are, by-and-large,  people who've adapted; made their way by being industrious and having close knit families.  Old School.  There are no Asian Jesse Jacksons, or that other phony— Tawana Brawly guy—to fill them with resentment and excuses. Under the proposed rule, the neighborhood data provided by HUD will be used to evaluate patterns of integration and segregation, racial and ethnic concentrations of poverty, and access to "valuable community assets." The first time HUD caused this much WTF-ery in me was in the early 70's.  The agency purchased an upscale apartment building on Connecticut Ave, just inside, or outside the D.C.-MD line, I forget which.  The stated goal was to allow the new Great Society welfare class to break out of the D.C. ghettos, where rampant crime, and the MLK riots in '68,  had caused supermarket chains flee.  By moving them to someplace more upscale, these people would have access to grocery, restaurant and entertainmen values, within walking distance. Can you see the problem here? Everyone but HUD did, straightaway.  The nearest supermarket to their new Connecticut Ave. digs was a Safeway, just outside posh, high rent  Georgetown.  I imagine it's where the Kennedy's shopped before John went to the White House.  Guess what? That's right.  The newbies immediately raised cain over the high food prices.  Only this time caused because chitlins and ham hocks were replaced by beef and pork tenderloin as meat aisle staples.  The Feds put pressure on Safeway to stock food more within the abilities of the newly unindigent, which realignment caused customers to migrate to even more expensive stores, like Magruders.  I know all this because I worked the area for Campbell Soup. It seems then that we've arrived at what this is about.  Reinventing failed Great Society initiatives.  Because they were so ... so ... what?  WTF? ”

At The Cinema                            Justified I've been deluged with e-mail  like this: Say, Rodge.  You were right about Downton Abbey, but now that we finished it, we're needing your suggestion for a new series. Maybe something a bit livlier?  You know; a series we can get into like Downton, or Doc Martin,  but with non-stop action.  The wife wants some love interests but doesn't like seeing any generals or live bosoms. I want me some bad guys getting they asses shot off.  But, it has to be well done—like with an attitude.  Maybe something like, oh I dunno, Get Shorty.  Remember that?  Something with lots of episodes too.  Thanks Claude Bawlz Claude, this is amazing.  I've only watched season one of Justified, and a few of season two, but I could watch them all at once if I wanted to be a pig about it.  And get this!  The series is based on the short story "Fire in the Hole" by Elmore Leonard,  who wrote Get Shorty! He's also the executive producer. Since it's a FX cable series, where you can evidently say "goddamn" but not "fuck," it's failrly langauge neutral, but no kids!  Not a nipple in sight, but still there's plenty of old school steam. I watch on Amazon Prime (have exclusive rights); 4 seasons available (48 episodes) But you've probably already seen it since it's very popular with people who watch television. Here's a sample.
