Mini-Pot Pies

Mini-pot pies

Res Ipsa Loquitor

I ran across this recipe for mini pot pies awhile ago.  Yesterday, with a chicken carcass in the fridgerator, seemed like a good time to try it.  There are five good things about it—
  1. It's like a 10 minute set-up
  2. It's gooder than ary thing
  3. Girls (Mo Sup) think they're cute ...
  4. ... and tasty
  5. I can think of a hundred fillings to use besides chicken
As an aside, I only recently discovered Bisquick—of course I knew abot it, but never used itt—and now I love it for lots of quick things.  It is I think overpriced, so I found this get-around. Make your own Bisquick.   You're welcome.

Oh My

Raja,

Two things are worth bringing up today. First. Today Rush discussed some idiot’s article blaming racism for RG3’s injury, singling out the supposedly anti-Native American name, Washington Redskins. Now I ask you, how can it be racist to name the Washington Redskins after a potato?

Second, and probably more seriously, Iran has evacuated the city of Isfahan, a city of one and a half million people. They claim it’s because of pollution. However, there is a nuclear facility there. It may have a major leak. Have you heard about it?

There's been several times when I was sorry I didn't have a Geiger counter, like whenever a Democrat took the presidency, but then everybody seemed of the same mindset and  prices were astronomical.  I guess most of that lot have theirs, and- the others are too young to recognize any threat to their well-being, save for climate change.

Last week I went looking and found this on on E-Bay.  Bought it straightaway for $35 + shipping, and here it is.  This gummint surplus Geiger is in  pristine condition.  Put a "D" battery in at, did a circuit check and voila!

I know what MoSup will say (because she already did).  "So what what good is it to know that you're being zapped by a million Islamo dirty bomb rads?" (not quite in those terms).  There are a hundred things which I won't bore you with because you'll figure them out.

By the by - do any of you remember Missy Kelley? She recommended that I buy Nuclear War Survival & Skills in 1999, and I did.  It was a revelation, and I heartily recommend it to everyone as a guide.  Whoa, I just noticed that I mentioned this before - as one of my very first blog-spot posts in 2002.

Tuna on Whole Wheat Please

WHOLE WHEAT SANDWICH BREAD

“
Res Ipsa Loquitor
Whole Wheat Bread

I used to make bread a lot when the kiddies were non-existent, or still young. Then it became too time consuming.  Awhile back, after buying a bread machine (re-con Cuisinart from Woot - one of my bet buys ever), I started again.  But the whole wheat bread recipes sucked big time, and rye bread wasn't even an option in their cook book.  Recently I watched this video from COOKs, and was intrigued.

It seems the reason home made whole wheat breads are, at best, white bread with wheat  color is chemical.  Whole wheat granules have razor blades growing out of them, which slice the gluten to shreds and inhibit the ability of yeast to do it's thing.  The solution—melt the razor blades in a milk bath!

This is a 24 hour deal, although it can probably be cut to 8 hours.  I screwed up because after making the Biga and putting it to rest, I decided to watch some movies.  The next day I discovered that I was also to have made the "soaker" at the same time, so I was behind.  I made the soaker and put it in the fridge, and after 8 hours continued with step three.

Res Ipsa LoquitorLet me tell you something, combing two clumps of yeast risen sticky dough by hand is a sumbitch.  While I own damned near every cooking device known to man, I do not own a Cuisinart mixer—because MoSup put her foot down and said she would not have yet another gadget cluttering her counter top.  But wait. Bingo!  I set the Cuisinart bread maker to "Dough" and plopped the two clumps in with  the honey, salt and yeast, etc. Voila!

But wait.

I evidently had screwed around with it so much that I punctured magic yeast membrane, and it wouldn't rise.  Of course I only discovered this after waiting 45 minutes and finding it flat.

"I know, the marble counter was too cold!"
So I opened the oven door (I had it preheated to 400°) and put the loaf pans on the open door.  Nope.  Still didn't rise. S@&*## F*!#!

I was about to throw the whole mess away, but what the heck.  I ripped all the dough into little pieces and put them back into the bread machine, with more honey and more yeast.  This time it worked.

Of course the truest test any of my cooking must pass is MoSup's palate.  She freaking wet her pants!  USA USA USA.  I toasted two slices and made me a tuna sandwich, and YES.  This bread is so nutritious that you will actually lose weight and restore your boner.

If you want the written recipe- here. You're welcome.

PS- Here's my next adventure

GAWKER- I have in my pocket a list ...

"..And I have in my pocket a list of names....."
“

“ Gawker, the favorite smear blog of the left in general and NBC evening news anchor Brian Williams specifically, put up an item using the same arguments in defense of ... Front Page ”

Front Page's Daniel Greenfield thusly described Gawker in another piece.  It's so danged accurate that I've soldered it.
In "Here Is a List of All the Assholes Handsome Law-Abiding Citizens Who Own Guns Some People in New York City," Gawker John Cook demonstrates the depth of the chasm separating them from us.  For instance, I would be outraged at being left off of any list of  American gun owners.  It's a badge of honor. And a proclamation that I am willing to defend nation and family against its enemies. In fact, in today's climate, where the stench of law and order decay is palatable, not being included is an invitation to home invasion. The Left are more horrified  of being publicly outed as being a gun owner than of not owning a Prius.

That said, The Journal news not only published names, but included home addresses in their "expose."  That's a bigger social  media sin than posting comments in ALL CAPS!  Simply not done.  What's next?  A list of where the children this lot don't like go to school?  If they think it's useful, yes.  Click-click.

What better way to staunch protests at worsening economic and life conditions than to make it feel like an honourable job/duty of the people to save "Gia". At the same time, they used this "science" as new pagan religion to further push out the Christianity they hate and despise and most of all, fear? Gia worship, the earth "mother", has been pushed in popular culture oozing out of the West for a better part of the past 1.5 decades. This is a religion replete with an army of priests, called Government Grant Scientists.

Various groups have fought back. This is including Russian hackers, who published a huge database of UK government, scientific and university emails depicting the fixing of data to sell Global Warming, er Climate Change (as if it never changed on its own). And while taking hit after hit, the beast, like Al Qaida, will not die. As a matter of fact, the beast is on a steady come back, as it is quite useful during the down times recession. The US alone spends $7 billion each year on warming "studies", which is, in truth, nothing but a huge money laundering operation, as no real science is conducted and vapid alarmist reports the only product generated. Amazingly, Dubai doesn't have a sewage infrastructure to support its skyscrapers, including the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Drivers said they'd been queuing for three days! Unsurprising then, that many dump their loads into storm drains that lead directly to the open sea. Tourists are warned of the risk of contracting serious illnesses like typhoid and hepatitis if swimming on Dubai beaches. Wikipedia on sanitation in Dubai.

According to a commenter on You Tube, this is a temporary fix while a sewage system is being built.  Those Islamo left-handers can sure throw the old turdball though wot wot.

Not the Greek Athens ...

The Battle of Wisco Michi Athens: Restoring the Rule of Law

“ The Battle of Athens (sometimes called the McMinn County War) was a rebellion led by citizens in Athens and Etowah,

It is due to truth to say that the citizens of New York showed very little alacrity in responding to the call of the Mayor and Governor for volunteers to suppress the late riot. (Drunken Irish, all) Of 400 muskets which lay idle at the armory of the 37th regiment, only 80 found men to carry them, though urgent appeals for men were made by the authorities and the officers of the regiment. Harpers Weekly,  August 1, 1863
Tennessee, United States, against the local government in August 1946.

The citizens, including some World War II veterans, accused the local officials of political corruption and voter intimidation. The event is sometimes cited by firearms ownership advocates as an example of the value of the Second Amendment in combating tyranny.

I'm rather stunned that I never saw this film, nor heard of the Battle of Athens before Mofux set me the link. Most likely I always dsimissed it as some Greek thing (as I almost did this time).   Interesting comments on YouTube.  Similarly, I'd guess that very few are aware of how the mayor of New York in 1863 dealt with Code Pink draft rioters. Huzzah!

For the last five years, those who spend their time procrastinating on Wikipedia could read up on a 17th century war between colonial Portugal and India’s Maratham Empire known as the “Bicholim Conflict.”

The problem is that Bicholim Conflict never happened, and that the entire 4,500-word article on the war was nothing more than an elaborate joke. ... the writer of the article still hasn’t been identified. [Full]

My New Restaurant

.

Announcing "La Serk"
Res Ipsa Loquitor

I've been planning ahead for this year's post college hoops boredom.  To wit, I spent all day cleaning the basement and setting up my new restaurant "La Serk"  I will accommodate one sitting per night, five days a week.  The prix fixe price for the table, of up to four people, is $1000 (plus 20% gratuity).  I plan on giving a Michelin Three Star dining experience.  I'm  working on the menu now, but here's a hint.  I've ordered vanilla beans, truffle oil, and the best Omaha steak package available.  Blogging will be way down beginning in April.More later.

Make that "AmeriKa"

Only in America

“
Res Ipsa Loquitor

1) Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black

3) Only in America could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4) Only in America can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.

6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.
11) Only in America can a man with no background, no qualifications and no experience ... and a complete failure at his job ... be reelected.

Two Commies Named Wallace?

FBI reveals surveillance of 60 minutes correspondent Mike Wallace, who was accused of being a communist

“
Res Ipsa Loquitor

Res Ipsa LoquitorWallace was not discovered to be a communist

Determining who is or is not a communist is tricky.  The "Hollywood Ten" actually had American Communist Party membership; Roosevelt's closest adviser Harry Hopkins, among others, "was assuredly a major-league Soviet agent."   Had FDR died just a few months earlier,  communist & V.P. Henry A. Wallace would have become president instead of Truman.  Since 1984's CPUSA's  ticket of  Gus Hall/Angela Davis, the Party simply endorses the Democrat Party ticket.  Ahem.

But not being a official member does not mean you can't be a "Communist."  It's here that actions speak louder than a membership card.  I've long been intrigued by  CBS Television News's line of succession since  Edward R. Murrow. Murrow pretty much invented CBS TV NEWS, and was pivotal to the success of  portraying Senator Joseph McCarthy as a "Right Wing Nut."   Murrow decided who would be hired and fired at CBS.  From Walter Cronkite forward, CBS News presenters  have consistently acted in a manner that can only be described as "very acceptable" by Uncle Joe." Wallace included.  I'm just saying.
