The totalitarian temptation is proving too much for the left across America. Daniel Flynn, in his book A Conservative History of the American Left, contrasted the “Freedom Left”, the benign old-fashioned liberals, versus the “Force Left”, the descendants of Marx that malignantly oppose fundamental rights in pursuit of their radical aims. The Force Left has successfully seized control of their movement, and their fundamental transformation is manifesting in current events daily as we watch their struggle for ever more power. As Chelsea Clinton reminded us last week, a divided court without Scalia standing guard could dismantle the Second Amendment at any time, and a Hillary Clinton presidency would hasten that in any way possible. The left as a whole has long been hostile to the Second Amendment, but has been divided of the regulatory means of mitigating its effects. Background checks, registries, magazine limits have all been incrementalist “salami tactics” to limit gun ownership, and according to them, limit violence. The latest tack is to levy taxes against weapons and ammunition — some more confiscatory than others. In Seattle, it is 25 dollars per firearm, with a nickel tax on ammunition over .22 caliber, and a 2 cent tax on smaller calibers, which the National Rifle Association is litigating against. In the Northern Marianas Islands, to compensate for losing their handgun ban in court, their Governor imposed a $1,000 “excise” tax on the importation of firearms. The end game of these taxes is to discourage the purchases, create better documentation surrounding purchases, and limit the accessibility of exercising a constitutional right. But like the poll tax violating the right to vote, a confiscatory gun tax surely violates the individual right to keep and bear arms. If treated like real estate, a firearms tax could become a way to confiscate weapons from those who could not pay the tax, thus discriminating against the poor from exercising their Second Amendment rights. Onerous laws like this are being enacted all across America, with any given one of them leading to a legal challenge that will work their way to the Supreme Court. As Chelsea Clinton reminded us last week, a divided court without Scalia standing guard could dismantle the Second Amendment at any time, and a Hillary Clinton presidency would hasten that in any way possible. When was the last time that children of Presidential candidates rallied support against the Bill of Rights? Tom Selleck Explains Importance of Family, Hard Work, AND…  Actor Tom Selleck is once again under fire and in the spotlight for making controversial comments, ones that have sparked ire amongst his liberal Hollywood peers and the media as well. Selleck is no stranger to controversy, as he’s been known for speaking his mind and shooting straight from the hip. Whether defending The Second Amendment or playing the role of Frank Reagan on the CBS crime-drama series, Blue Bloods, the former Magnum PI star continues to carry a love-hate relationship with tinsel town and those who put him under the microscope. Selleck isn’t shy about how he feels about President Obama, and he recently implied that serving in the military may have done him (Obama) some good. In one of his latest video commentaries, Selleck all but slaps Obama in the face by talking about good old fashioned family values: “The greatest satisfaction in life I know is family. They’ve been my best friends and the people who keep me in line. I wouldn’t be obviously where I am today without family, and support, structure and values I got from my parents.” Selleck goes on to talk about how he served in the military during the Vietnam War, which may have been another dig at the president for not serving in the armed forces. While the video does reveal his patriotism for his family and his country, he may very well have been taking another shot at Obama in terms of how he was raised. Needless to say, Tom Selleck has become a true hero with American conservatives for going against the grain of Hollywood haters and giving the president a piece of his mind! Blue Bloods is by far our favorite series; and Selleck our favorite actor. Stands to reason then that Hollywood hates him.

Supreme Court denies bid to block Texas voter ID law Texas' controversial voter identification law will remain in effect, possibly through November's elections, after the Supreme Court on Friday denied an emergency request from a coalition of Latino advocacy groups and Democratic lawmakers who say the measure is discriminatory. "Against that backdrop is the Texas voter ID law, affecting more than 14 million voters this election cycle." [Huh?] The unsigned order from the justices did not explain their reasoning, or whether there was any opposition. While it is a temporary decision, it could affect enforcement of similar laws in other states during a hotly contested presidential election year. Texas officials and the U.S. Justice Department agree more than 600,000 eligible voters in the second-largest state lack one of the required IDs. The only real problem with the economy, as far as Obama is concerned, is that he hasn’t been selling his successful policies aggressively enough. “We were moving so fast early on that we couldn’t take victory laps. Never mind that Obama didn’t “save” either industries. Obama’s only contribution to GM and Chrysler’s bankruptcy process was to protect union interests at taxpayer’s expense. Smoking dead scorpions is the latest addiction in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa “I started scorpion smoking in the mid-'60s,” recalls 74-year-old Sohbat Khan. It was during General Ayub Khan’s era, and Khan was only 20 years old. He would frequent the famous Jalil Kabab house in Peshawar, which is how he met the vendor who sold scorpions worth Re 1 or Rs 2 right next to the eatery. The men got their supply from the Matani area, which is rich in scorpions because of its insufferably hot weather. Khan says he has quit smoking scorpions. His eyes are sunken from years of addiction, and his pale face and hollow cheeks betray a dependence on opium. “Nasha pa nasha khatmege,” he says, smiling – some drugs are beaten by other drugs. His addiction to opium doesn’t bother him as much. Khan says opium’s affects are far safer than scorpion smoking. Stu Tarlowe <stu@tarlowe.com> This sign was depicted in an e-mail I got today from the Media Research Center, urging me to sign the American Family Association's petition for a boycott of Target stores because of Target's capitulation to the demands of the "gender identity" bullies. I have to wonder, though, if the sign is real. Having studied Graphic Design, I have to admire the way the sign addresses the matter of those who are "gender confused" (although, having studied English, I'm not pleased at how the word "gender" has been hijacked and misused; strictly speaking, only words have gender; living things have sex, and there are only two choices). The figure depicted (by combining the "man" and "woman" symbols) as half-man, half-woman is a logical solution to a visual communication challenge. But one can't help but wonder what the LGBTQSTFU "community" thinks of it. Do they think it's "respectful" enough of their "gender identity or expression" issues? And WTF does a person in a wheelchair have to do with "gender identity or expression"? Anyway, real or not, in actual use on actual restroom doors or not, I think the "half-man, half-woman" graphic should see far greater exposure, whenever the need arises to refer to the LGBTQSTFU community or any of its members. If they don't like that graphic, maybe they can come up with another one, like just a big ol' question mark. It's real Stu ...
