A democrat, an Independent, and a Republican walk into a bar ...

A democrat, an Independent, and a Republican walk into a bar ...
Res Ipsa Loquitor

One of us is a Democrat; one, an independent; another, a Republican. Yet, together, we recognize several hard truths: Government spending levels are unsustainable. Higher taxes, however advisable or not, fail to come close to solving the problem. Discretionary spending must be reduced but without harming the safety net for our most vulnerable, or sacrificing future growth (e.g., research and education). Defense and homeland security spending should not be immune to reductions. Most consequentially, the growth in spending on entitlement programs—Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare—must be curbed.

These truths are not born of some zeal for austerity or unkindness, but of arithmetic. The growing debt burden threatens to crush the next generation of Americans.
[Generational Theft Needs to Be Arrested]

They could haveshould havestopped at "Government spending levels are unsustainable," because everything after that is more of what we've been hearing for 50 years+.
  • . Discretionary spending must be reduced but without harming the safety net for our most vulnerable, or sacrificing future growth (e.g., research and education).
Without harming the safety net .. is the phrase that sinks all ships. And future growth depends on government funding  education?  Forgive us millions while we laugh bitterly.
  • Defense and homeland security spending should not be immune to reductions.
Dept of Homeland Security as constituted is a bigger threat to the nation than Islamo fascists.  What they mean is, "We spend too much on defense."
  • Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare—must be curbed.
Curbed?  Have they heard of Obamacare?

I'm laughed out.

Blah-Blah-Blah

Police State Culture

The first story I saw about this a few days ago only stated that Denise Helms levied her "assassination" question   on her "private" Facebook page  Which means that someone she trusted took a  screen cap and dropped a dime on her.

The original account failed to mention that she had  referred to him as a "nigger."  That in itself is not unlawful, but it does profile her as being of low class.  Still, when you're being tail-gated and bumper tagged by some a-hole on the freeway, and you're life is in danger, many of us will utter a personalized oath, like, "WTF are you doing you stupid  Beamer?"  Or "You stupid Turban head!"   But racist?  JFC, this is the most racist regime in American history. Ever.  The word has lost half of its meaning and all of its punch.

Now, that she wondered aloud that this very unpopular (ahem) President might "maybe" be assassinated sometime in the next four years was nothing more than idle chatter; a comment about current events.  Hell, I'm actually pretty surprised that nobody got off an actual attempt over the past four years.  It says much about our (real American's) maturity as a nation—and his SS body guards' competency.  And Hell, I sure don't want him assassinated.  Are you kidding?  And get President Biden?  And a bunch of schools, airports and freeways named Obama ___ ?  Yikes.  Now, if Obama and Biden committed sepaku together in contrition for ruining our country, I can't say I'd be grieving for very long.  Especially if someone besides Boner was  House Speaker.   Since that will not happen however, I'm rooting for secession.

Trumps big surprise? Yawn?

Donald Trump to reveal ‘divorce papers of Michelle and Barack Obama’, claims respected financial pundit

Res Ipsa Loquitor

BFD.  Every marriage will experience rocky times.  Shoot, I thought Trump's promised "October Surprise" was a verified Kenya birth certificate.  Not that that would matter in this  go-along to get-along culture. What's the significance of Trump's revelation, then?  Nada.  Unless of course it was because Michelle found Barry in bed with a dead hooker or live boy.  Anything is possible with that lot.

Can I say this on the air? Obamas Scherbenhaufen!

The Obamissariat

Res Ipsa Loquitor

At a campaign event on Thursday, Obama took a hard line on the attacks. "To all those who would do us harm: No act of terror will go unpunished," he said. "No act of violence shakes the resolve of the United States of America."

The German Die Welt writes:

"US President Barack Obama's Middle East policy is in ruins. Like no president before him, he tried to win over the Arab world. After some initial hesitation, he came out clearly on the side of the democratic revolutions. … In this context, he must accept the fact that he has snubbed old close allies such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Egyptian military. And now parts of the freed societies are turning against the country which helped bring them into being. Anti-Americanism in the Arab world has even increased to levels greater than in the Bush era. It's a bitter outcome for Obama."

Not that anything Europe thinks is especially important, but a principle 2008 Obama campaign pledge was to restore our "Thanks-to-Bush"  shattered image abroad.  From almost the get-go he's been the butt of their ridicule.  Will he meet violence with violence?  Only if his advisers say it will help him at the polls, and then it will be executed badly.

Where Romeny is Anointed ...

Making Sense of Republicans Attacking Capitalism
Romney gets annointed

WYSIWYG
RUSH: In starting this discussion, they're trying to explain this, dissect what's going on on the Republican side with the attacks on Romney and capitalism and so forth,
with language, by the way, that's used by the left.  I want to read to you some excerpts of a piece by Jay Nordlinger, who writes a column at National Review called Impromptus.  He says, "I was watching a clip of Romney tangling with an Occupy protester last week. Romney was defending corporate profits. I was astounded. I don’t think I had ever seen a candidate do this. When the subject comes up, you’re supposed to denounce corporate profits or say, 'Hey, nice weather we’re having, huh?'"

That gave me great pause.  I had to stop and think.  He's right, frustratingly so.  He's right.  No matter who it is, when the subject of profits comes up on our side, they usually duck it and run for the hills, which is maddening.  Where are our people taking the occasion to educate people who have been mal-informed, ill-informed, or lied to about capitalism from the first day they stepped into public school?  Profits are evil, they are so evil that even people on our side duck the discussion.  Jay Nordlinger is reminding himself here that he saw a clip of Romney arguing with an Occupy protester defending corporate profits.  How unusual is this?  He then goes on to point out that Phil Gramm, the former Senator from Texas, conservative and an economist by trade, "once explained to Bill Buckley why he never talked about free trade on the stump."

Now, listen to this.  This is fascinating to me.  Phil Gramm said, "Free trade benefits almost everybody ... [Full transcript]

Romney is already the nominee, now anointed.  Properly so in this context.  It's all too predictable though.  I'm weary of it.  Pay no attention. I'm a crazy bag lady,  yelling about stuff I found in my naval.  Say, how about them Crimson Tiders?  To bad it wasn't a California team they beat the snot out of.

New Year Wishes

A New Year Blah Blah Blah

Riding with Democrats

At year end I find myself  discombobulated.  The received prosopography must look like this to to the reader.   akimbo
Maybe because my principle foci these past several years have been on political stuff
and I've  discovered it's been like reading James Michener novels.  All very entertaining, but scripted and quite predictable after awhile.  Adam Smith's invisible hand is clenched by a  gummint fist in a life-or-death arm wrassle.  It's down to this for me, either Democrats and Liberals win, or America wins.  Not both.  Only solution I can muster involves uninvented aircraft and death rays.

I explained in a comment below that this forum  is a stream-of-consciousness monologue. Everyday, and sometimes every hour, there's a new amuse-bouche. Lately the boosh has been airy, and without much substance. It's not that Obama & Co. have reached a depth of wretched behavior that's no longer fathomable; they have not.  Each day brings new and unique outrage.  On the day Obama was elected I posted, simply

As it turns out, nothing more needed to be said. Nothing written since has further advanced the understanding and tragedy of this government.

blah blah blah

Finally (for this post), thanks to everyone who supported me last year, either financially or with great content.  I could not function without either.   Happy New Year.  For now, I have a good deal of silliness saved up, and will indulge myself without apology.  I hope this doesn't sound too dour.  I just watched
Norm MacDonald: Me Doing Stand-Up (sample→), and am laughing my ass off.  You should too.

Redefining Rape

But what about when after the big game we're at the malt shop and gunmen force everyone to disrobe and make me have sex with my best friend's girlfriend, and then the cheerleaders?
Whoa.  Where did that come from?  Anyway, when libs redefined rape to include your own live-at-home spouse, the daffynition floodgates opened as far as I'm concerened.  [House Republicans Plan to Redefine Rape]
