134 over 70

The ... Mascara?

I undergo pulmonary rehab three times a week.  Consists of getting wired up and doing treadmill, bicycle, etc at controlled levels. The machines have a place for an iPad.  I've settled on watching silent movies because I don't want to broadcast Rush Limbaugh at a level (it's noisy in there) that might cause others to stroke out.  Earphones are out, because an attendant will periodically come over to take BP and Oxy readings,  and I need to be able to hear  her. Today I dialed up a YouTube silent move,  "The Massacre (1912) .  Here's the thing; I actually got caught up with it.  The restored film is crisp as new; the action fast moving.  Anyway, when the monitor girl (I'm guessing 22-23 yrs, and quite perky, came by, she said "Why do you used closed captions? Do you know how to (she reached to turn them on).   She was slacked jawed amazed.

"No, there are no captions.  This film is over 100 years old. Any dialog is displayed on the screen—and right now on did.
Wow!  What's it about

I think its based on the Little Big Horn.  I could feel her puzzlement.  Custer's Last Stand?
Blank.
Little Big Horn?
Wow I suspect she had not a clue, and went to another "customer."

Only then did I calculate that this film was made a scant 36 years after the Big Horn.  Which means that the wagons, uniforms, rifles, etc. were all likely period. Real.  As were the sensibilities about fighting injins.  Now I notice that this was a  D.W. Griffith film.  I'll say no more.  Except, I marvel at the cinematography.

HARK! A BARGE APPROACHES!

Della looked down at Clark's sleek head gently stroking his hair.  Her breath began coming in gasps; she closed her eyes enjoying to the full, the deliciousness of that stolen moment.

Clark released the yearning, straining, crimson tit-bits, bringing his lips up against Della's dewy, parted, honey mouth. " ow about it now, baby,  he whispered, "have you still got any doubts?"

"Please stop asking me to marry you! Are you doing all this to lower my sales resistance?"
"Gosh, Della,  .....

Coulter: Super Bowl;Muslin Ban,Loathing Hillary

There isn't a lot the entire country agrees on, anymore. A few generations ago, there was so much that brought Americans together. Everyone read LIFE magazine, listened to Jack Benny on the radio, and then later watched Ed Sullivan together, every single Sunday night. All Americans watched the moon landing, were traumatized when Kennedy was shot and supported the troops.

But today, with a billion cable channels, and specialty magazines on everything from bridal gowns to automatic rifles, and a wildly heterogeneous population, there's not a whole lot that brings us together.

It's pretty much down to the Super Bowl, the Muslim ban, and, as of Tuesday night, loathing Hillary Clinton.  [Ann Coulter; NEW JERSEY MAN SLAYS CHILD]

Umbrella, AK; what's the dif?

    Liberal Culture

The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, was prompted by a call to the San Diego County Sheriff’s office of a bald white male, wearing a black shirt and jeans and walking across campus carrying a rifle. This resulted in a shelter-in place order for some 400 staff and students going through orientation before the start of the fall session. Rapidly, facility and classmates banded together to barricade doors with tables and chairs, expecting the worst.

The situation resolved itself after 30 minutes when an umbrella-bearing teacher figured out he matched the description of the alleged gunman and surrendered to law enforcement.

Somewhere in the bowels of Hell, Adolph Schicklegruber is plaintively crying out- "Oh-Oh.  Give me just one more try at them!"

HEARTS

  Stuff on my desk

Microsoft chose not to include Hearts in Windows 8;  instead offering, among others, Random Salad Games "Hearts Deluxe."  They kept pestering me to write a review so I finally did a week or so ago.  I wrote that while I have yet to catch a renege, in other respcts it seemed like Hearts Deluxe was beginning to cheat, and even suggested that they were hiring erstwhile MS Hearts people to program, and if so balls-out cheating and blatant reneges could not be far behind.  This morning "John" broke hearts early on when "Sandra" led clubs.  Clearly an attempt to end my incipient Shoot the Moon atempt. Later John played a club.  I had them! But that's not what this is about.  This is.

I've noticed that several internet games of chance offer Easy/ Hard options.  WTF?  It's a game of chance.  The only way the game can have easy/hard options is if the programmers are cheating.  Right?  The earliest MS Hearts game was real.  I once won 27 straight games before tiring.  That was in the 90's, before the Clinton Culture had time to fully seep in.  Now it has.  Everything is cheat cheat cheat.  Nothing is real.  There are no hard and fast rules for anythong.  That's all.

Mentalist fans will understand why I'm reminded of Lisbon, for whom I've developed something of a crush.

Spell Check This

Culture

A man receives a text message ...

SCROLL
A man received a text message from his neighbor... :

"Joe - I'm truly sorry about this, but I have a confession to make.  I am
texting you, because I would be uncomfortable looking you in the eye.

I am using your wife day and night, whenever you are not home to see.  I am probably enjoying your wife more than you.  Since I got laid off last month, it has become easier and easier.  I feel I have been shameless.

I am confessing this because now I feel guilty about it, and because I am afraid my children will find out I am cheating.  I have always tried to teach them the value of character, and I have let everyone down.

Please accept my sincere apologies.  I can't undo what's been done, but I promise to restrain myself in the future.  Please don't say anything to the kids."

Sincerely, Bob

A few minutes later, while Joe was in a heated discussion with his miz, he received another message from Bob.

"Hey Joe - that danged Verizon auto-correct messed up.... I meant 'wifi' not 'wife'!"

Pubic Hair War

Physician: ‘Hands Off That Pubic Hair’

You're probably thinking, as I did, that "oh gee,  here's another culture scandalmonger trying to stop the manufacture of  those very fashionable (and pricey) pubic hair coats."  But you'd be wrong.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (CBS Seattle) One doctor is calling for the end to the “war on pubic hair.”

Family physician Emily Gibson made headlines recently for her public assertion that modern women should shy away from the practice of bikini waxing – which she referred to as the “war on pubic hair” – as the practice increases risk of various infections.

“Pubic hair does have a purpose, providing cushion against friction that can cause skin abrasion and injury … [its] removal naturally irritates and inflames the hair follicles left behind, leaving microscopic open wounds,” she noted.

The risk also extends to sexually transmitted diseases.

Said Gibson, “Some clinicians are finding that freshly shaved pubic areas and genitals are also more vulnerable to herpes infections due to the microscopic wounds being exposed to virus carried by mouth or genitals. It follows that there may be vulnerability to spread of other [sexually transmitted infections] as well.”

Hair removal in the United States grosses $2.1B a year, which minus the cost of duct tape, is pure profit.  The Dr. does make a legitimate point about why women are born with this protection against infection (why men too?  Beats me), but I imagine a bad economy will work its magic and restore order.

Augusta National Goes Pussified

This Society and Nation Are Already Crumbling Ann*

Nice Lay (Lie?)
Rollover- Best Golf Picture Ever

"Augusta National Golf Club, has accepted its first female members. The club announced Monday that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and businesswoman Darla Moore have accepted offers of membership — becoming the club’s first women members — after years of criticism for the club’s all-male membership."

At least Darla Moore wasn't called Ms. Rice's "companion."  Will other gender exclusive institutions fall next? Like Curves, a national fitness chain that only accepts women members? (DC)

Baby's first butcher shop

  Baby's First Butcher Shop
Baby's First Butcher Shop

Mmmmm PeTA-Clikkem
(Rollover Bonus)

PETA would never approve: This grisly 1840 doll-sized butcher shop with miniature animal carcasses and a floor covered in sawdust and blood would be shockingly graphic to our modern sensibilities. After all, here in the 21st century, we like to remain cheerfully oblivious about where our meat products come from.

But in Victorian times, such detailed model butcher shops were not uncommon, says Sarah Louise Wood, a curator at the Museum of Childhood at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The real question is: Why exactly do such things exist? [Full story with delightful pictures]

I'm almost moved to write a thesis based on just this sort of thing—people growing up in a sheltered and sterile society.  But who needs another "F " on his resume? Anyway, you already know what I mean.
