Reagan-Trump Inaugurals

Donald Trump Channels Ronald Reagan

Jan 20, 1981 Jan 20, 2016

I glanced yesterday at MoSup toward the end of Donald Trump's inaugural address yesterday; she was silently weeping.  I had an irritant in my eyes as well.  I thought it was the most powerful inaugural speech I've ever heard.  On a whim, I dialed up Reagan's first such address and had much the same experience. Both were given after the precedent President's  disastrous policies had led us to the brink. Both left me with a genuine feeling of hope, and confidence that the ship would be righted.  I was dead right with Reagan, and expect the same from Trump.  God Bless America.

Reagan was once Donald Trump

Ronald Reagan Was Once Donald Trump

FR's latest column should be printed and laminated and kept in your wallet. Whenever you see more ineptitude and corruption and nincompoops drunk with power, pull it out and read it. (2005/10/02)
[...] What put off Reagan’s fellow Republicans will sound very familiar. He proposed an economic program — 30 percent tax cuts, increased military spending, a balanced budget — whose math was voodoo and then some. He prided himself on not being “a part of the Washington Establishment” and mocked Capitol Hill’s “buddy system” and its collusion with “the forces that have brought us our problems—the Congress, the bureaucracy, the lobbyists, big business, and big labor.” He kept a light campaign schedule, regarded debates as optional, wouldn’t sit still to read briefing books, and often either improvised his speeches or worked off index cards that contained anecdotes and statistics gleaned from Reader’s Digest and the right-wing journal Human Events — sources hardly more elevated or reliable than the television talk shows and tabloids that feed Trump’s erroneous and incendiary pronouncements.

Frank Rich, of all people, seems to "get it." His article makes enough valid comparisons between Ronald Maximus and Donald Trump to make mefor a minutethink that the erstwhile New York Times theater critic ("Butcher of Broadway"), before becoming a political essayist (mostly famous for "outing" David Brock, "  from personal knowledge some suspect, and earning a reputation outside of New York as a left wing prance-about, and darling of likes of Daily KOS, which is all I really need to have said in the first place.
But no.  However, he does stumble upon this pivotal  truth:

But Reagan’s and Trump’s opposing styles belie their similarities of substance. Both have marketed the same brand of outrage to the same angry segments of the electorate, faced the same jeering press, attracted some of the same battlefront allies (Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Phyllis Schlafly), offended the same elites (including two generations of Bushes), outmaneuvered similar political adversaries, and espoused the same conservative populism built broadly on the pillars of jingoistic nationalism, nostalgia, contempt for Washington ... (before adding "and racial resentment.")

Déjà vu, all over again

Someone comes to mind... Hmmmmm Think about it.  In 1980 the world was a mess with radical Islam on the ascent, and targeting the USA. We had, probably, the worst president in modern times bungling a response. The GOP tried everything in the book to derail his candidacy.  Unions, always a safe Democrat sinecure flocked to him.  He had a beautiful, elegant wife.  I had a neighbor who went apoplectic at the mere mention of his name. Whoa! His election had the practical effect of hijacking an incompetent GOP, and failed in the long term only because his VP succeeded him and undid it all.

Oh snap!
There is this ... How Trump Killed Reaganism.  So, once elected we'll have to depose him (via impeachment of course), and V.P. Palin will make everything right.

Tip, Reagan, and a juggler

Sigh

Money Back LOL Guarantee!

This is an old video with President Reagan in the front row. He is sitting along side of Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neill, enjoying an evening together at the Ford theater. A very funny act takes place on stage.Notice how he isn’t drawing attention to himself or trying to be the show. We don’t see that humility anymore...  Merrily.

How do you tell a communist?

Socialism is as Socialism Does

Res Ipsa Loquitor
Ronald Reagan taught us, "How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin."

Lots more good stuff  Socialism is as Socialism Does

How has Barack Obama transformed us? Into what is he transforming us? A look at his impressive *list of firsts as president of these United States points in the direction he is herding us:

I Want Your Money - Five Stars

                                                                                                                 Brietbart is here
Shining the light here boss

I WANT YOUR MONEY from Michael Katz on Vimeo.

A political documentary that contrasts the two paths the United States can take using the words and actions of Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan. The film uses interviews from well-known public figures, experts, movie clips, dramatic portrayals, music, graphics and even comedic animation to tell the story in the plainest terms of the choice between the Obama and the Reagan views of the role of the federal government in our society. It also examines how these big government programs have been tried in the past at great moral and financial cost to the nation. California is offered as a case-in-point in understanding what economic challenges might face the nation, if we choose the larger government path. The RKOF&S has awarded it the Palm d' cheveux

Titanic Analogies

Culture

Unchivalry

Titanic v Concordia
I at first saw a certain cultural analogy.  Upon reflection (as I was posting this) however, the Concordia's captain is reviled (and been quite arrested). I can't vouch for the rest, although I am prepared to think the worst of any Russian with money, since they're almost certainly mobbed up.  So never mind.   This better makes a germane cultural  point. .  No, Wait!  This is even better.

Ex-Commie Slaves Honor Reagan ....

BUSTED
Liberal Monkey Media Foiled Again

Is this great, or what?  While the Democrat Media Complex have steadfastly honored Mikhail  Gorbachev for causing the downfall of communism, two new statues honoring Ronald Reagan were unveiled in former communist  nations.  All this is in stark contrast to a Monkey Media favorite, whose ballyhood statue was removed after people realized he was a total putz.

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) -- Georgia's pro-Western president has unveiled a monument to Ronald Reagan in the capital of the ex-Soviet state praising the 40th U.S. president for "destroying the Soviet Empire." Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.  (AP)  --Former Polish president and anti-communist leader Lech Walesa unveiled a statue of Ronald Reagan on an elegant Warsaw street on Monday, honoring the late U.S. president for inspiring Poland's toppling of communism. - Tuesday, November 21, 2011

Former President Reagan was honored Tuesday with a statue at the Washington-area airport named in his honor.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation unveiled a statue of the 40th president, for whom the nearest airport to the capital city's borders is named, during a ceremony at Reagan Washington National Airport.

The ceremony, which took place in front of Terminal A, was attended by former Sens. Bob and Elizabeth Dole, both Republicans, the former president's foundation said on its Twitter page.  [Hill]

Ron Reagan ATC

Leadership

I've had this sitting on my DVR for awhile, with the idea to extract some clips from it. The message here is important. The time has come.  Yeah, I just captured it with my hand held  Brownie.  For the younguns - Brownie refers to the iconic Kodak camera, not the other.
